ELECTliON OF F.t\CULTY MEMBERS
President Strand called the Facult Council to
order in Memorial Union 208, at 4 :00 p.m. Members present were: Bett, Bogart, Carl n, Carlson,
Charley, Clinton, Colby, Dietz, Forem n, Frazier,
Friday, Gilfillan, Gill, Goode, Gray ( or McClelIan), Hansen, Heath, Heston, Hovla d, Ingalls,
Knapp, Langton, Li, Mack (for Sch el), Maser,
Milligan, M00r, Nicodemus, Orde an, Orner,
Pfanner, Poling, Price, Raabe, Richa dson, Samuels (for Schultz), Scholl, Sisson, St ne, Strand,

The minutes of the November 10, 1 55 meeting
of the Faculty Council as distributed in advance
to all members of the Council were eclared approved.
ELECTION OF EXECUTIVE COMMJTTEE
President Strand called for nomi ations for
Vice Chairman of the Faculty Co ncil. Dean
Colby, chairman of the Committee n Nominations, said that the recommendations f his committee had been published in the Fac ty Bulletin,
namely, Professors V. M. Bett a d H. W.
Schultz. Further nominations were in ited, but as
none were proposed the Council vo ed to close
nominations for Vice Chairman. Fo Secretary
the committee had proposed the na e of Professor Delmer M. Goode. Further ominations
were invited. None were proposed, an the Council on motion voted to close nomina ons and to
ask the Secretary to cast a unanimo ballot for
Professor Goode for Secretary. Th committee

Scholl. Further nominations were ca ed for, but
as none were proposed the Council on motion

Cornmi tee on Nominations was for Dean Helen
S. MO::lrand Mr. James Barrel:t to be faculty
memb rs of the Student Senate. No other nominations ere offered. On motion the Faculty Council voted to elect Dean Moor and Mr. Barrett
facult members of the Student Senate.

President Strand called for nominations for
two positions on the Committee on Review and
Appea s. Dr. Ordeman proposed the following:
Dr. S. M. Dietz, Professor E. D. Meyer, and
Dr. J. IA. Pfanner. On motion the Council voted
to close nominations and to ask the Secretary to
cast a unanimous ballot for the three professors
named. President Strand then said that, while
only two members of the Committee on Review
and AJDpealswere to be elected by the Faculty
Council, his practice always had been to appoint
as the third member the nominee who received
the hi~hest number of votes next to the two who
were elected. He said that in the present instance,
in lieu of naming a third member, he would approve the three members just elected as the Committee on Review and Appeals.

OF CURRICULUM
COUNCIL
Dr. [. W. Sherburne, chairman, presented the
report of the Curriculum Council on curricular
proposals for the 1956-57 Catalog. He first named
the C1 rriculum Council, asking those present
to stand and commending their service. The
mimeographed report of the Curriculum Council had been sent in advance to Faculty Council
members. Dr. Sherburne distributed a sheet
contaid ing some corrections. He presented a
summary of the proposals with comparisons for
precedmg years. He called attention to indications
of a trend, namely few expansions in undergraduate brk and notable increases at the graduate
level. He then invited questions on the report,
page i:3!y page. During the review various comments and explanations were made as questions
arose. Motion was then made that the report be
approved as corrected. The motion was seconded,
put to /lote, and carried.
