The Adrninistra ive Council met iLn regular session
at 3:00 p.m. H th President Strand in the chair
and the follol-Tng members present: Carlson,
Colby, Crossen Gilfillan, GleeBon, Goode, Hansen,
Heston, Knapp, Langton, L~mon, Haser, Mackie (for
Miller), McCul och, Moor, Ordeman, Poling, Price,
Robertson, Seh 11, Strand, Zeran. Also present

Colonel Knapp
presented a pr posal to have all B. O. T. C.
students prese1t at the Charter Day Convocation
in a formation in lieu of regular class sessions.
After discussi n, it was understood that the plan
would be follO-led. Dean Lemon announced the
following as m rabers of a committee to formulate
recommendation
on better balaneing of M\;JFand
TTh scheduling
Dr. Langton, Dean Gleeson, Dean
Gilfillan, Dr. Ordeman. Dean Lemon spoke of a
telephone surv y under \-layaimed at economy and
better service.
REPORTING OF
UNSATISFACTORY
STUDENT WORK
After discussi n the Administrative Council VOTED
to continue th plan of reporting unsatisfactory
student work a the end of the fourth and the
eighth weeks 0 " a term. The action modified the
previous regul tion by requiring a report if instructor has n unsatisfactory students. The
regulations ad pted wer'e:
A: That reporting all students doing unsatisfactory v70[k at the end of the fourth week
and the eighth Heek be continued.

That each tnstructor, at th~; close of the

the names of students dOing unsatisfactory
work in each class or submit a statement that
he has no students doing unHatis:eactory work.
The Council discussed recent experience with the
regulation on dropping a course, By successive
motions the Council VOTED to adopt t.he following
regulations governing the dropping of courses:

That a st dent Inay be permitted to drop a
course ~d.L in the first six weeks of any
term with t responsibility for grade.
B:
That no s dent be permittei to drop a
course du ing the last four weeks (including e 'nination week) of any term.

MOTIONS
DISCUSSED
A motion disc ssed and then withdra"lU proposed
that no grade of F be permitted unless there
has been prio i.Tarningto the student. A more
positi ve appr ach to the problem was suggested.
It was recogn'zed that the question merits
further consi eration. A letter from Assistant
Dean Cooney \-7 s read regarding the handling of
grades and cr its in Hr 10 and Mth 5. Dr.
Ordeman gave etails of the handling of these
courses in th records. Differences of vieu

versus in som schools. A motion was made that the two
courses be gi en regular credit t.oward graduation but that the number of hours required

No action was aken on the motion. President
Strand sugges ed that the question was a
faculty matte, involving academic policy. It
was agreed to continue discussion of the question at the n {t meeting.
