The Pres1ident nnounced that a specf.a.l, Charter Day Convocation
might be arra:' ,cd for 27 October 1955. He also suggested the
desirability
, obtaining as special speaker for that occasion an outst . ding president of a land-grant
institution.
HONORARY
DEGREE
On FebrJary 2 'J 1955, the Facul.tv Council sitting
as a committee of the /hole voted CG z-ecommendthat an honoxary
doctoral degr-e _ be conf'er'z-ed oy Oregon State College upon
the Honorab'Le ouglas McKay, Becr-ebary of the Interior.
President S-er d announced that the recommendation had received
the approval
the State Board of Higher Education but that
Secretary McK had been unable to be present at the 1955
Commencement. He said arz-angemerrbs were being made for conferring the d ree at the Charter Day Convocation planned for
October 27.
