ROLL CALL
Vice Chairman W. • Frazier called the Faculty Council to order
in regular sessio at 4:00 o'clock with the following members

COMlITTTEE ON
SUPERIOR
STUDENTS
Dr; Dietz, chairm n of the Commi, t.tee on Superior Students,
mentioned the na es of the memhers of his committee and said
that he wished f' 'st to call on re:presentatives to report on
current activiti s within schools on behalf of superior
students. He ca led first on Director l.v. H. Carlson, librarian,
who spoke of the library and its services as peculiarly the
center of the st dies of superior students who are interest~
in references be ond usual assignments.
He said the Library
lacked seminar a d conference rooms that wcuLd aid gr-ea t.Ly in
providing b~tter service to superior students but was using
available facili ies to the fullest extent possible.
For the
Lower Division 0 Liberal Arts, Professors Foreman and Heist
described specia programs that were under way for challenging
superior student with studies fit for their abilities.
Dr.
Van Horn named tle members of a committee in the School of Home
Economics and sp ke of projects designed for superior students.
Dr. Jones of the Depar-tment, of Bot.any described the group conference procedur
in use in beginning botany. He said that
special sections next fall would enlist selected students from
Portland high ac ools and permi t each student to take the lead
in his own progr~ss.
He said the conference method permits
student to have t.he enjoyment of discovery.
Dr. Dietz, closing
the discussion w~th brief summari,~ing remarks, said that further
reporting would e arranged for a later meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was
announced that a special meeting of the
