Dean Maser chairman, said that the Committee on Reorganization of he Faculty Council requested that discussion of
the prelim'nary report of the committee given at the November 11 meting be postponed until the final report is
presented, which it was hoped would be at the January meeting of the Faculty Council.

Dr. Lonseth chairman, gave a progress report of the work
of the spec.al Committee on Recognition of Faculty. He
named the m mber s of the conani.t t.ee, about half of whom were
present. H spoke of many factors in recognition of faculty that h d been considered, including the Carter Awards,
evaluation f teaching, information obtained from deans, information 0 tained from other universities, etc. The committee had ormed some tentative views on a number of matters.
It felt tha criteria for recognition i,nterms of salary
and rank mi ht best be dealt 'with at the departmental and
school leve s rs.ther than at the institutional level. It
believed thi3Jtan annual report would be proper and helpful
from each falculty member covering and interpreting his
work. It feb.t that an informal talk between the departmental chairlnan and each staff member each year would be
helpful. r-. felt that faculty opinion should be consulted
in promotions.
