president Strand c lled to order at 4:00 p.m. a special session of
the Faculty Counci in the Council Room of the riemor'La L Union. Present were: Berry, Togart, Brandon, Carlson, Charley, Colby, Christensen (for Heath) Clinton, Cooney (for Priceh Engesser, Friday,
Gilfillan, Gilkey, Goode, Grill, Ingalls, Langton, Lonseth, Norton,
Ordeman, Pilcher, ratt, Robinson, Shideler, Smith (for Dietz),
Strand, Tressler, lalls, Williams, Yunker, Zerano Also present
were Professors G. B. Cox, Nay Dulscd.s , l'IargaretL. Fincke, Dorothy
B. Fox, Lucy Lane, Rhoda i1anning, F. L. Parks, H. Ten Pas, 10 N.
stone, 11iriam Wigg nhorn, H. G. Vatter, S. E. Williamson. Special
guests were: Dr. • L. Van loan, superintendent of Corvallis city
schools, l"Irs.Elsi Bolt, elementary supervisor in Corvallis city
schools, Brse Joy ills Gubser, assistant superintendent in the
Oregon State Depar ment of Public Instruction, and seven teachers
representing grade 1 through 7 of the Corvallis city schools.

President Strand i troduced Dr. W. I,. Van Loan. Dean Zeran distributed mimeograp' ed sheets pr esentd.ng a tentative curriculum
proposed for the n w major in elementary education. He indicated
some modifications and said that the: curriculum would be proposed
for consideration f the Facu.lty Council at a later meeting.

the first seven gr des in the Corvallis city schools, each of whom
gave an interestin brief description of the afms , procedures, and

grade). The speak rs used exhibit materials to illustrate their
presentations. Su plementary exhibits were shown on tables near
the entrace of the room.
CRITERIA OF l'Irs.Gubser expres ed the belief that Oregon State College, in

entering the field of preparation of elementary-school teachers,

would make a contr bution in Oregon education. She spoke briefly
of (1) the Oregon eauirement that ji-nstitutionsgiving preparation
for elementary-seh 01 teaching must be evaluated and approved, (2)
the principles on hich the Oregon elementary-teacher education
program and certif cation requirements have been developed, (3)
the importance of supervd.sed teaching in the preparation of
teachers, and (4) he desira'cility of ready transfer from
elementary to secondary t.eaching and vice versa.
ADJ OURNl'lENT President Strand lde some concluding remarks and thanked all
those who had cont~ibuted to the diBcussion. He said the Faculty
Council would conttlnue consideration of the elementary education
curriculum at alar' er meetdng , The meeting was adjourned at
5:30 0 tclock.
