Meeting 4f59 Oreg n State College MINUTES OF FACULTY COUNCIL 7 December 1950 ROLL CALL President Strand aIled the Faculty Council to order in special session at 4:00 otclock in room 110, Commerce Hall. REPORT OF CURRICULUM COUNCIL He welcomed the embers of the Curriculum Council who were present and expr ssed his thanks to the council for its many hours in co sideration df curricular proposals. He called on Dr. Sh rburne, Cha~rman, to present the report of the Curriculum C uncil. He called attention to the proposal at the end of the Curriculum Council report for t e authoriza1ion of special course numbers for temporary co rsss. He indicated three corrections in the mimeographedlreport of the Curriculum Council, copies of which had been sent in advance to all members of the Faculty Council. in opening the meeting said that the CommitIfare will bring in a report at the next 14. Dr. Friedman rais d the question about meeting the requirements of Ca Ll.f'cr ni a law which specifies six hours of supervi sed teaching fo junior college certification. It was suggested that fo students wishing to meet the California requirement it wo Id be possible to register for six hours \.mder CC 505 and ake the work of the proposed course CC 506 plus other si Hal' work for the added credit if the department approv s. Dean Gleesoh explained that the dropping of the major in mining engineering looks toward a possible regional curriculum in some institution in the region. In respo se to questions, Dean Crossen said that the new five-year curriculum in pharmacy contains no pharmao y courses in the fi st two years. Among other comments, Prl3sident Strand refer ed to the plan for special numbers for temporary courses and said , "this is an important proposal but it wiLl, have 0 be used judicious l;yor we won't have it very long."
