YMCA MENTORING PROGRAM
We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
The program hopes that as a result of the
mentoring relationship:
• mentored youth will improve academic
performance
• mentored youth will experience increase
awareness of his/her contribution and value to
society.
• mentored youth will experience increase
self-esteem and develop goals that lead to
success
• mentored youth will participate in career
exploration activities
What is the YMCA
Mentoring Program
The Program is a collaborative
initiative of the Montgomery County
Public Schools, Montgomery County
Department of Health and Human
Services, Maryland Department of
Juvenile Services, Circuit Court of
Montgomery County and YMCA
Youth & Family Services.
The mission of the YMCA
Mentoring Program is to provide court
involved youth with a mentoring
relationship that helps them cope with
their life circumstances and develop
the life-skills needed to make positive
choices.
Reflecting on your own life, perhaps
you remember someone you could trust and
turn to for support and encouragement,
someone who showed you how to believe in
yourself. However, we know that not all
children get the support they need to thrive;
therefore, YMCA Mentors provide support,
guidance, friendship, encouragement, and
caring opportunities.
“I have always believed in
mentoring. There are many young
people who need a guiding hand
and open heart. I have had many
mentors in my life.”
-- FE, Retired MCPS Principal
