The orientation of the fan module sets the direction of the air flow through the switch—either air intake at the ports or air exhaust at the ports. The switch air flow direction should match the air flow direction of other devices in the same rack. To change the air flow direction, remove the fan module, rotate it 180 degrees (Figure 2), and re-insert it. The fan module is hot-swappable. Fan Module Installation • Installation Guidelines, page 5 • Tools that You Need, page 5 • Installing a Fan Module, page 5 Installation Notes for the Catalyst 2360 Switch Reversible Fan Module 4 OL-22152-02 Fan Module Installation Installation Guidelines • Do not force the fan module into the slot. The switch pins can be damaged if they are not aligned with the module. • A partially connected fan module can disrupt system operation. • The fan module is hot-swappable. When replacing a fan, complete the replacement procedure before a CLI message shows that the switch is overheating (approximately 5 minutes). • The switch continues to operate when one fan fails. If one fan fails, the Fan LED turns amber. If the second fan fails, the switch sends an error message, writes a failure log to flash memory, and shuts down. • Make sure that the fan module is securely seated before you move the switch. Warning Do not reach into a vacant slot or chassis while you install or remove a module or a fan. Exposed circuitry could constitute an energy hazard. Statement 206 Warning Only trained and qualified personnel should be allowed to install, replace, or service this equipment. Statement 1030 Tools that You Need You need a flat-blade screwdriver to loosen the captive screw on the fan module. Installing a Fan Module Note Warning See a video demonstration of the fan installation: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps10920/vds_cis_108148_cat2360_fan_i nstallation.html Do not reach into a vacant slot or chassis while you install or remove a module or a fan. Exposed circuitry could constitute an energy hazard. Statement 206 Step 1 Using a flat blade screwdriver, loosen the captive screw. Step 2 Grasp the captive screw and pull out the fan module. Caution Replace a failed fan module before a CLI message shows that the switch is overheating (approximately 5 minutes). Step 3 Align the air-flow direction indicator on the fan module with the one of the direction indicators on the switch (Figures 3 through 6), and push the module into the slot. When correctly inserted, the fan module is flush with the switch rear panel. Installation Notes for the Catalyst 2360 Switch Reversible Fan Module OL-22152-02 5 Finding the Fan Module Serial Number Step 4 Tighten the captive screw. When the fan is operating, the fan LED on the switch front panel is green. The switch continues to operate when one fan fails. If one fan fails, the Fan LED turns amber. If the second fan fails, the switch sends an error message, writes a failure log to flash memory, and shuts down. Finding the Fan Module Serial Number If you contact Cisco Technical Assistance regarding a fan module, you need to know the serial number. Figure 7 shows the serial number location.
