Cryptosporidiosis Statistics: 2005-2014
The Cryptosporidium cases in 2014 ranged in age
from 9 months to 99 years; the median age was 24
years. Sixty-one percent of cases occurred during
July through October.

From 2005 to 2014 there were 2,998 cases of
cryptosporidiosis reported in Minnesota (Figure 1).
During 2014, 337 cases of cryptosporidiosis (6.2 per
100,000 population) were reported.

The highest incidence of cryptosporidiosis occurs in
the southeastern and west central regions of the state
(Figure 3).

During 2014, there were seven outbreaks of
cryptosporidiosis identified in Minnesota, including
three person-to-person outbreaks, three animal
contact outbreaks, and one recreational water
outbreak.
From 2005 to 2014 there were 52 reported outbreaks
of cryptosporidiosis in Minnesota. Of these
outbreaks, 22 were attributed to waterborne
transmission, 17 were attributed to person-to-person
contact, 10 were attributed to animal contact, and 3
were attributed to foodborne transmission (Figure 2).
