Cancer in Minnesota, 2010: Preliminary Report This brief report presents preliminary cancer incidence statistics for Minnesota in 2010, based on cases reported to the Minnesota Cancer Surveillance System as of December 2011, approximately 12 months after the end of the diagnosis year. Comparing the preliminary and 24-month reports for 2009 cases, we expect approximately ten percent more cases diagnosed in 2010 to be reported over the next 12 months. It is likely that this increase will vary by cancer site. The incidence rates reported here may vary somewhat from those presented in future reports if population estimates for 2010 are revised. The attached table shows the number of new cancers diagnosed among Minnesota residents during 2010 and reported to MCSS by the end of 2011. Cases are presented by gender and anatomic site of the cancer. The corresponding rate is age-adjusted to the 2000 US population and given per 100,000 persons per year. The statistical methods and definitions used and limitations of the data presented in this report are the same as those detailed in “Cancer in Minnesota, 1988-2008,” available on the MCSS Web site (http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/hpcd/cdee/mcss/).
