College Application Instructions for Class of 2016 210839 WCHS CEEB CODE It is imperative that you complete all of the steps according to the directions. DO NOT SKIP ANYTHING. You need to create accounts for both the Common Application and Naviance/Family Connection in order for Churchill to electronically send your transcript to a college. FIRST STEP MATCH COMMON APP TO NAVIANCE/FAMILY CONNECTION STEP 1 Go to: www.commonapp.org Create a Common Application account even if you are not applying to any Common Application schools. STEP 2 Open your Common App Account If you have already created an account sign in using your email address and password and click “sign in”. If you have not already created an account click “Go” and create an account. Make sure your name and email address used for the Common App is identical to what appears in Naviance/Family Connection. Complete the following information in the Common App Complete “current or most recent school” segment of the education section. Add at least one college to your “My Colleges List” tab. Read and sign the FERPA Release-Authorization in the “recommenders & FERPA section.” The expectation is that you will agree to waive your right to view your records. Log on to your Naviance account. Click on the COLLEGES tab and then on COLLEGES I AM APPLYING TO Match your Common App and Family Connection accounts by entering your email and date of birth then click match. If all information agrees your accounts will match and be linked. Review your Colleges in Family Connection Click on “Colleges I am Applying to List” Review list for accuracy Click on “applying via common app” if you choose to apply by common app. STEP 3 STEP 4 STEP 5 https://vimeo.com/102639828 details the procedure noted above. Tips for completing the application: Class size: 534 Rank: N/A (MCPS does not rank students) GPA or WGPA: Does not matter which you use, GPA is on a 4.0 scale or WPGA is on a 5.0 scale Counselor’s phone number: 301-469-1211 Please refer to the back of this document for instructions on requesting a transcript Making a Transcript Request Beginning September 15, transcript requests are made in person to the registrar’s office before school, during lunch or after school. All records are sent through Naviance/Family connection, unless the college requests otherwise. The transcript, counselor letter, school profile, and Secondary School Report are sent together. The following items are needed when you see the registrar with your first request for a transcript “Release of records” (yellow form) “Diploma Order Form” (purple form) “College Packet,” if you did not submit one in June “Transcript Request Form” “Secondary School Report Form When you are ready to submit your first transcript request to the registrar: complete the entire top portion of the “Transcript Request Form” LEGIBLY list only the name of the college (s) to which you are applying that day indicate in the due date column the application deadline specify, in the next column, ED if this is an early decision request and/or indicate any special program skip the next two columns, they will be completed by the registrar check the application method: Common App, Electronic On Line (for one college only), US Mail. Skip the last three columns, they will be completed by the registrar. This form is kept in your college file and returned when you add new colleges. If your college requires records to be mailed, also submit the necessary envelopes and postage One white, business-sized envelope addressed to the college with WCHS* as the return address (WCHS 11300 Gainsborough Rd., Potomac MD 20854) and one stamp One large envelope (9” x 12”) addressed to the college with WCHS as the return address and 4 stamps. Submit transcript fees: Official transcript fees: Unofficial transcripts: Transcripts 1 – 3 Transcripts 4+ $1.00 each. FREE $3.00 each If paying by check, please make sure that your address and phone number are on the check; also, write the student’s name and MCPS ID # on the memo line. All checks are payable to WCHS. DEADLINES Please allow the registrar and your counselor 20 school days to process your application. We cannot guarantee meeting your deadline if you do not follow these guidelines. We will send only one final transcript to the college you have definitely decided to actually attend.
