ThankyouforbeingpartofRocklandP.L.U.S.2016.Asafacilitator,youplayakeyroleinhelpingthestudents
engageinanexcitingexchangeofideasandinformationwiththeirpeersandmentors.Withyourguidance,
theywillpresentandgatherinputfrommentorstoimprovetheirlocalTransitFocusedRevitalizationplans,and
theninmixedschoolteamsapplytheirknowledgetorevisionExit10ontheNYSThuwayinordertorevitalize
theeconomicbaseofareunifiedSouthNyack.

ThegoalofthissessionisforthestudentstopresenttheirlocalTransitFocusedrevitalizationprojectideasto
thementorsaidedbytheirposterandthepresentationguidelines(AppendixB).Schoolswithtwogroupswill
presentbothposterspriortoreceivingmentorfeedback.Studentswillthengathermentorfeedback,and
recordwhattheygaveasstrengthsoftheproject,aswellastheirsuggestionsforimprovements,ontothe
providedform(AppendixC).Iftimeallows,thefacilitatorwillguidestudentsinadiscussionofhowtheproject
couldincorporatethementorfeedback.ThegroupwillreturntotheEllipseRoomLobby,wheretheposters
andfeedbackformswillbehungforreviewbytheeventparticipants.

SessionIIisintroducedwithalookatanewlyvisionedSouthNyack
Participantsareprovidedwithanoverviewoftheproject,andanexplanationofthecollaborativemapping
session.Afterthepresentation,studentsfromtheschoolswillbemixedintoplanninggroupsforSessionII.New
integratedteamsof~10students,2-3fromvariousschool,willbeineachgroup.
10:30-12:00:SessionII–PlanningandMapping

Thestudentgroups,theirfacilitatorsandthementorswillmoveintotheirplanningteamsforthesecondactivity
aroundplanningfor‘Exit10,SouthNyack’.Eachplanningtablewillhaveafullsetofsuppiesincludingsitemap
andoverviewof‘factorstoconsider’,checkoffformstouseinplanningtheircommunities,aLARGEMAPand
pensandPlanningFeaturesCardSetformappingouttheirredevelopmentplan.

wewillprovideasyouheadtoyourgroups.(10minutes)

Tellthestudentsthateachplanninggrouphasbeenassigned2-3mentorstoworkwiththemtogive
feedbackandinsights.However,theycanaskquestionsofanyofthementors.Discuss&Review
(1)TheinformationsharedintheintroductiontoSessionII–thematerialsprovidedespeciallythe
mapandprojecthighlightssheets,asthesewillbenewtothestudents,andthe(2)Goalsofthis
activity.Besurethestudentsareorientedtothesiteandlookthroughthelistofwhatalreadyexists
atthislocation.Remindthemtousetheplanningskillsandresourcestheyhavealreadydeveloped
throughtheworktheydidontheirlocaltransithub.(10minutes)
• Startbyaskingthestudentstothinkagainofwhatcommunityfeaturesareimportanttoincludeina
healthycommunityfortheneedsofallagesandstageoflife–social,economicandenvironmental
piecesthatcanbeincludedinthisproject.Thesecanbejotteddownontheedgeofthemap.
• Brainstorm:WorkinteamstocompletetheCommunityAssessmentSheets(AppendixD)thinking
ofRocklandCountyasawhole.Comparesheetslookingatwhatrankedasstrongest(#5)and
weakest(#1)identifyingRockland’sgreateststrengthsandweaknesses?Discussthesetohelp
beginthediscussionofwhattheywouldincludeinthisnewsite.(20minutes)
