Taking Sediment Samples collar 1 Loosen nut 4 Open valve 2nsert clear tube 6 5 2nsert corer into sediment. Push down as far as you can but not past the collar. Close valve 9 10 Block end with hand Open valve or dowel 11 Remove clear tube Loosen nut 3 2 Carefully pull corer out of sediment. Tighten nut 7 Keep sample vertical 8 Observe sample in the tube 12 13 Slowly drain water 15 14 16 Complete the Sediment Grab Log Cse dowel to push sample onto tray Measure, observe and describe core consistency, color, smell and composition To submit sample for analysis: Push sample into a ziploc bag Label bag with name, date and location using a permanent marker Describe carefully as samples vary depending on site Submit completed Sediment Grab Log with other sampling results
