Information for Faculty
•
Veterans may miss class due to VA appointments which, if missed, can take 1
to 4 months to be rescheduled
•
Any student with orders to report for active military duty may withdraw at any
time. If sufficient coursework has been accomplished and the instructor feels
justified in granting credit for the course, credit may be granted.
•
INCOMPLETE GRADE POLICY: When a requirement of a course has not been
completed for reasons acceptable to the instructor and the rest of the academic
work is passing, a report of I (incomplete) may be made and additional time
granted. The I is only granted at the discretion of the instructor. (See AR 17
for the full policy)

Consider including information on class syllabi for student veterans, such as:
“Veterans and active duty military personnel with special circumstances are
welcomed and encouraged to communicate these, in advance if possible, to the
instructor.”
What you may experience in your Classroom or Office
 Discomfort with unfamiliar people or surroundings
 The need to sit away from windows or in back of class, and a reluctance to
speak in class
 Sensitivity to war references and/or discussions or assignments on topics
relating to war
 A need for increased encouragement and guidance
 Physical issues due to injury/chronic pain which makes it difficult to sit for
long periods of time
 Non-visible injuries including but not limited to hearing, head injury, PTSD,
which may impact communications
 Reluctance to ask for assistance
