Classroom Procedures
Entering the Classroom
1) Enter the room quietly.
2) Begin the Do Now assignment in your notebook.
3) Work quietly and independently.
4) Await further instructions from teacher.
2
If You are Late
1) Enter the room quietly.
2) Sign the tardy sheet located on the table near the door. If you have a
pass, hand it directly to the instructor.
3) Sit in your seat.
4) Join the activity in progress. If you don’t know what the class is doing,
raise your hand and wait until the teacher acknowledges you.
5) Continue waiting quietly until I get to your seat.
If You are Absent
It is your responsibility to make-up any assignments or tests in a timely
manner when you return from an absence.
Check the class file cabinet online for assignments given in date of your
absence.
Turn in any missing assignments within the week of the due date.
Late Work
Late work is discouraged, but accepted. The most important thing is
that you do the work so you can learn the science concepts. Remember,
science is learned by doing. Some assignments, especially projects, will
be graded partly on promptness. While you may turn in the project late,
you will not be able to earn full credit.
Getting Your Attention
There may be times that I need to get the class’ undivided attention. In
order to do so, I will say “Class, I need your attention.” and raise my hand.
When you see me raise my hand you must:
1) Raise your hand and keep it up until I put mine down.
2) Stop talking, pause any activity, and look at me.
3
3) Wait for me to speak.
Appearance of Assignments
All assignments should be neat and legible. Every assignment must have
the following heading:




Name
Today’s Date
Title of Assignment
Class Period
Grading scale




Tests/Projects/Major Grades……………40%
Quizzes/Labs/Activities…………………..30%
Daily Work (Classwork/Notebooks/Homework)…….20%
Class Participation (Warm-Ups/VocabExpress)…….10%
Labs
You need to turn in a signed safety contract and should earn an 80% or
higher in the safety test to have permission to do labs. If these are not met
by the time the first lab work is due, then said lab work (and any other
affected labs) will be considered late, at which point the late rule will apply.
When you are involved in a lab, you MUST act accordingly. Participating
in a lab is a privilege, one that can be taken away if the proper procedures
are not followed. We want to keep you safe during any lab activity
therefore it is important that you observe safety rules. Violations of safety
rules will result in a maximum grade of 70. Depending on the severity of
the offense, you may be timed out from the activity. Once that happens,
you automatically get a zero for that particular activity, a conduct grade of
"P" for the grading cycle, and a referral to the Principal for administrative
sanctions.
