Online in 2013 – Drivers
- Student population
Demographics - Race, Ethnicity, Country of Origin (Asia,
Pacific Islander, Hispanic) on the rise
Expectations – (access via hand-held; less synchronous
delivery; individualized learning; 24/7 services;
get education anytime, anywhere)
-Cost control – value of college education is questioned. Education
costs are growing faster than health care
-Educational technology – the internet is THE “dominant
infrastructure” for knowledge; computer mediated learning
-Accountability – measure and assessment; is a college education
worth the money? Less about outcomes, more about
ROI, competencies, gainful employment
-Globalization – the world is getting flatter
Action items:
Spring 2012
Identify a 4-5 person advisory committee
(including grad enrollment/online delivery
coordinator)
Summer 2012-Spring 2013
Identify goals/objectives
Design the “go to” online program
Spring 2013 – report to IAB
Launch – Fall 2013
Food for thought:
“Learning will become separated from the classroom. Courses will
be created organically and formed around on-demand, any-time, anyplace
delivery models….And textbooks, the ink-on-paper version that we know
today, will all but disappear.” (T. Frey, DaVinci Institute)
