Class VIII Fellows studied land use issues and visited a
diversity of Southern Maryland farms, April 2013.

LEAD Maryland

LEAD seeks a diversity of applicants with
interests in:
LEAD Class VIII Fellows learn about urban
agriculture projects, Baltimore City, 2013.
LEAD Maryland Foundation, Inc. (LEAD)
will be accepting applications in 2014 for
the next class of LEAD Fellows. The
class, “Class IX,” will participate in 20152016. Applications will be available in
June 2014, and due by October 1, 2014.
LEAD Fellowships provide:

Public Issues Education;

Personal growth and leadership
development opportunities;

Communications and problemsolving skills training;

Support, direction, and resources to
help emerging leaders succeed in
serving agricultural, natural
resources, and rural community
sectors;

Opportunities to learn more about
Maryland, and to meet and network
with leaders throughout the state!
The www.leadmaryland.org website will
provide:

Rural, suburban, or urban production
agriculture;


Natural resources, forestry and other
natural resource-based industries;

The environment;




Food processing, food sourcing,
distribution, service and retail;

Rural communities, services, and rural
development; and

Business, communications, education,
government, science, technology,
nonprofits, land use, and others within or
serving agriculture, natural resources,
and rural communities.

Applicants complete a personal interview. Class selections will be announced
in late 2014, for class participation to
begin in early 2015.
LEAD Class IX will be designed to include
between 20 to 25 Fellows in the class.
Program participants, Fellows, will:

Participate in a series of multi-day
seminars throughout Maryland and
Washington DC in 2015-2016;

Complete a travel study tour; previous
classes have traveled to places such as
the Netherlands, China, Cuba, Chile,
Estonia, Brazil, and Vietnam.

Attend a 1-day symposium, led by LEAD
Class VIII, December 2014. Class IX
Fellows will also complete a group project;

Pay a $4,000 fee (tuition); most participants secure sponsors; an invoice for four
installments will be issued;
Class VII (2011-12) Fellows visit the Maryland State
House during a four-day seminar held in Annapolis.
