Women’s Basketball Game Notes
Games No. 11 & 12 - Dec. 20 & 21, 2007
LIBERTY Lady Flames (9-1, 0-0 Big South) vs.
BALL STATE Cardinals (3-7, 0-0 MAC) &
AUSTIN PEAY Lady Govs (4-5, 1-1 Ohio Valley) or
UNLV Lady Rebels (3-6, 0-0 Mountain West)
Cox Pavilion (2,500) - Las Vegas, Nev.
The Games
The Liberty Lady Flames (9-1, 0-0 Big South) will attempt to win their second tournament this season, when they travel to Thursday and Friday’s Lady Rebel Christmas
Classic, hosted by UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. Liberty will square off with Mid-American
Conference foe Ball State (3-7, 0-0 MAC) in Thursday’s opening round. The Lady
Flames will then play for either first or third place Friday, against either Austin Peay (45, 1-1 Ohio Valley) or host UNLV (3-6, 0-0 Mountain West).
The Last Time Out
The Lady Flames utilized a 14-0 run during the early stages of the second half to
distance themselves from a scrappy Glenville State outfit. Liberty went on to claim its
seventh-straight victory, 66-54 over the Pioneers, completing a 4-0 homestand. Megan
Frazee paced all players with 17 points, while sister Moriah Frazee added 12 points and
a game-high eight boards for the Lady Flames.
Lady Flames On The Air
All Lady Flames basketball games can be heard LIVE on WWMC 90.9 FM "The
Light." Jamie Hall, who is celebrating his 14th year of broadcasting Lady Flames basketball, will once again be handling the courtside play-by-play duties for most road
games. Due to Hall’s television responsibilities, Jerod Brooks will serve as the primary
commentator for home games.
Lady Flames On TV
For the fifth year in a row, the Flames Television Network (FTN) plans to broadcast
all 13 home women's basketball games. FTN’s regular announcing team will consist of
Ray Jones on play-by-play and Jamie Hall on color.

Liberty University Head Coach: Carey Green (Coastal Carolina, '79)
Record at Liberty: 194-65 (Ninth year)
Overall Record: Same
You must be doing something right as a collegiate head women’s basketball coach,
if a 19-12 season is considered to be a bit of a letdown by many observers. That’s just
the case for Carey Green, the ninth-year head coach of the Liberty Lady Flames, who
has raised the program’s standards to an extremely high level.
Green has accumulated a 194-65 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning
percentage of .749. He ranked 12th among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball
coaches in winning percentage, at the beginning of the season.
More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to
the NCAA Tournament seven times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23
or more victories during six of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw
the Lady Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Green has actually been to the postseason on 19 occasions as a women’s basketball coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In
all but one of the 19 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, the Lady Flames went 19-12 and tied for second place in the Big
South. The season was highlighted by a 75-71 win at Virginia, which made the Lady
Flames the first visiting team ever to triumph in the brand-new John Paul Jones Arena.
Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and
the 2006-07 Lady Flames were no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an
average of 10.6 caroms per game, ranking fifth nationally. The Lady Flames have now
been listed among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin for four-straight
years. Liberty led the nation in the category in both 2003-04 and 2004-05.
The 2005-06 season represented one of the best coaching jobs of Green’s career.
The Lady Flames had lost the top four scorers from the Sweet 16 squad to graduation.
Moreover, freshman Megan Frazee averaged 18.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game
through the first 14 games of her collegiate career, but was lost for the remainder of the
season due to injury. Yet, Liberty was still able to win 25 games, capture its 10thstraight Big South title and earn its 10th-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
Green’s efforts were recognized by both the Big South Conference and the Virginia
Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Both groups named Green as women’s basketball coach of the year at season’s end. It was the third time he has won each of those
honors and marked Green’s second-straight selection as VaSID Coach of the Year.
A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. The previous season, Green had
passed Rick Reeves as Liberty’s career wins leader.
The record-setting victory was just one of the many reasons the 2004-05 year was
a special one on Liberty Mountain. A senior-laden Lady Flames team recorded upset
wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No. 5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the first two
rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the second team ever to advance to
the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended the season with their highest
national ranking to date, No. 21 (USA Today/ESPN).
Green’s track record shows he has the ability to meet strong challenges. The Lady
Flames have recorded two wins over both Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories
over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State, UNLV and Wake Forest
during Green’s tenure. The upset victory over No. 25 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty’s
first win over a Top 25 team.
His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames
on a Big South-record 47-game winning streak and currently has a .911 (123-12) winning percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference
play with one or fewer setbacks five times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated conference seasons.

Women’s Basketball Game Notes
Scouting Ball State
Ball State, hailing from Muncie, Ind., went 24-7 a season ago, matching a school
record for victories and claiming the Mid-American Conference (MAC) West Division
title. The runners-up in the MAC Tournament, the Cardinals played in the WNIT
Tournament for the third time in head coach Tracy Roller’s six years.
Four starters return from last season’s squad, headed by 5-10 senior forward Julie
DeMuth, a first-team All-MAC honoree a year ago. As a result, the Cardinals were
picked as the favorite to win the MAC Tournament.
However, Ball State has struggled though the early stages of the 2007-08 season.
The Cardinals have dropped five-consecutive games to fall to 3-7. DeMuth, one of three
Ball State players averaging double figures in scoring, paces the squad in points (12.8
ppg) and rebounds (7.0 rpg).
Scouting Austin Peay
The Austin Peay Lady Govs, from Clarksville, Tenn., represented the Ohio Valley
Conference (OVC) at the NCAA Tournament four-straight times, between 2001 and
2004. However, Austin Peay has won 15 or fewer games in each of the past three seasons, including a 10-20 campaign a season ago.
Two starters are back from the 2006-07 Lady Govs team, but Austin Peay is currently being led in scoring by a pair of freshman guards. Ashley Herring, a 5-9 guard/forward, is averaging 12.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg, leading Austin Peay in both categories. Alex
Bivens, a 5-8 guard, is next with 11.1 ppg and has made 21 three-pointers. The duo has
combined for three OVC Freshman of the Week honors already, two by Herring and one
by Bivens.
The Lady Govs had won four of five games, before dropping back-to-back contests
against Eastern Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State to slip to 4-5.
Scouting UNLV
Last season, the host UNLV Lady Rebels suffered their first losing season (14-15)
in head coach Regina Miller’s nine years at the helm of the program. The Lady Rebels
had qualified for postseason play six-straight seasons prior to the 2006-07 campaign.
UNLV is looking to rebound this season behind four returning starters, including 61 senior guard/forward Sequoia Holmes, the reigning Mountain West Conference
Defensive Player of the Year. Holmes posted 14.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg and 2.6 spg as a junior.
The Lady Rebels are 3-6 to open the 2007-08 season, including an improbable 6261 triumph over No. 16 George Washington on Nov. 30. UNLV erased a 25-point deficit
to stun the Colonials. Holmes is averaging 22.3 ppg, which is tied for fifth in the nation.
The Coaching Matchups
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his ninth season with the Lady Flames. He
owns a 194-65 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big
South women’s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.749) ranked 12th
among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches at the beginning of the season.
Tracy Roller owns a career record of 118-73 in her seventh season at Ball State.
Already the winningest coach in program history, Roller has guided the Cardinals to
three 20-win seasons and three trips to the WNIT Tournament. She will miss the Lady
Rebel Christmas Classic, though, due to illness. Associate head coach Lisa McDonald,
in her seventh year with the Cardinals, will take the reins in Roller’s absence.
Carrie Daniels is 14-25 in her second year as head coach at her alma mater, Austin
Peay. She was an assistant coach at Western Kentucky for seven seasons prior to
returning to the Lady Govs.
Regina Miller has tallied a 170-109 mark in 10 seasons as UNLV’s head coach, a
run which includes a 26-win season in 2003-04 and a NCAA Tournament appearance
in 2001-02. Her overall record stands at 230-209 in 16 seasons.

Series History
Liberty has never faced either Austin Peay or Ball State on the basketball hardwood. However, the Lady Flames have squared off with UNLV once, during Carey
Green’s first season as head coach, 1999-2000.
Liberty defeated the Lady Rebels, 75-71, in the opening game of the Nassau Sun
Splash Shootout in the Bahamas, on Dec. 20, 1999. UNLV’s all-time leading scorer,
Linda Frohlich, recorded 26 points and helped her team take a four-point halftime lead.
Sharon Wilkerson, one of four Liberty players in double figures with 17 points, then
helped the Lady Flames come from behind during the final 20 minutes.
Liberty Versus the Mid-American Conference
Thursday’s game versus Ball State will be just the fourth game the Lady Flames
have ever played against one of the 12 current members of the Mid-American
Conference (MAC) and only the second under Carey Green’s guidance. Liberty owns
a 2-1 record versus MAC opposition.
The Lady Flames are 1-0 versus Akron, 1-0 versus Buffalo and 0-1 versus Miami
(Ohio). Liberty’s most recent game against a MAC opponent was a 59-40 triumph over
Buffalo at the Michigan State Spartan Chevrolet Classic, on Nov. 17, 2001.
Liberty has yet to face MAC squads Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan,
Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan in
women’s basketball.

Liberty Versus the Ohio Valley Conference
Liberty is 2-2 all-time versus the Ohio Valley Conference’s (OVC) 11 member institutions. The Lady Flames have met four different OVC squads one time apiece. They
defeated Samford and Tennessee State and fell to Morehead State and TennesseeMartin.
The Lady Flames defeated Tennessee State by a 74-38 margin on Dec. 3, 2004, in
the opening round of the Kansas State Commerce Bank Wildcat Tournament, marking
Carey Green’s only meeting with an OVC foe. Liberty senior Egle Smigelskaite helped
her team reach the tournament championship game with five points and eight caroms
against the Tigers.
Liberty has never been matched up against the OVC’s Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois,
Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Murray State, Southeast Missouri State and
Tennessee Tech.
Liberty Versus the Mountain West Conference
Liberty’s 1999 victory over UNLV is the only game the Lady Flames have ever
played against the current nine-team membership of the Mountain West Conference.
The conference also includes Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego
State, TCU, Utah and Wyoming.
In-Season Tournament Notes
After going 0-4 during a pair of in-season tournaments during the 2006-07 campaign, Liberty found success at the National City Xavier Invitational, Nov. 23-25 at the
Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Lady Flames won all three of their games over the weekend, including a comefrom-behind, 61-56 triumph over the host Musketeers in the title tilt, Nov. 25. Liberty
captured the tournament championship trophy, becoming only the second visiting team
ever to do so. Megan Frazee was tabbed tournament MVP and Moriah Frazee earned
a spot on the all-tournament team.
Liberty’s most recent in-season tournament title, prior to its win at Xavier earlier this
season, came at the Kansas State Commerce Bank Wildcat Tournament, Dec. 3-4,
2004. The Lady Flames won both of their games, including a victory over No. 17
Kansas State in the championship contest, to earn the championship.

Big South Recognition
Liberty became the first conference team to garner a pair of Big South Player of the
Week honors this season. Megan Frazee won the award on Nov. 26, after leading the
Lady Flames to the National City Xavier Invitational title. Sister Moriah Frazee was the
conference honoree on Dec.10, for the first time in her career. She averaged 17.0 ppg
and 6.0 rpg and shot 82.4 percent (14-of-17) for the week, helping Liberty win games
against James Madison and Binghamton.

All five Liberty starters scored in double figures during the Lady Flames’ 79-66 win
over previously unbeaten James Madison on Dec. 4. Megan Frazee led the way with
20 points and was followed by Moriah Frazee (17 points), Courtney Watkins (13),
Rebecca Lighftoot (11) and Allyson Fasnacht (10).
Fasnacht was a freshman starter the last time the Lady Flames accomplished the
feat, in an 86-71 home victory against Radford, Jan. 29, 2005. That evening, Katie
Feenstra tossed in 20 points, Kristal Tharp had 19, Daina Staugaitine posted 15,
Fasnacht notched 11 and Rima Margeviciute tallied 10.

Triple Digits Inside the Furnace
Liberty’s 100-29 victory over Virginia Union on Nov. 30 marked the Lady Flames’
first 100-point game since a 103-61 triumph over Cedarville, Dec. 13, 1997 at the Vines
Center. It was the Lady Flames’ first 100-point output since Carey Green took over as
head coach, prior to the 1999-200 season. In fact, Green’s Liberty teams, which have
been built around rebounding and defense, have only gone over the 90-point plateau
seven times in his nine seasons.
TGIF
The Lady Flames have gone 3-0 in Friday games so far this season and have
exploded for 92 and 100 points in their last two Friday tilts. Unfortunately, Liberty only
has two Friday contests left on the docket, the championship/consolation game at the
Lady Rebel Christmas Classic on Dec. 21 and the season-ending home game against
Radford on March 7.

Liberty Versus Non-Conference Opposition
The Lady Flames own a 254-283 all-time record against non-conference competition. Liberty’s best season against non-conference foes came in 1997-98, when the
Lady Flames went 14-1 outside the Big South. Liberty’s lone non-conference setback
that season came to eventual national champion Tennessee in the first round of the
NCAA Tournament. The Lady Flames are 9-1 in non-conference tilts in the 2007-08
season.
Lady Flames to Battle Wide Range of Non-Conference Foes
This season, Liberty will face teams from 11 different Division I conferences during
its non-conference slate. These include the ACC (North Carolina and Virginia Tech),
America East (Binghamton), the Atlantic Sun (East Tennessee State), the Atlantic-10
(Richmond and Xavier), the CAA (George Mason and James Madison), Conference
USA (Houston), the MAC (Ball State), the MEAC (North Carolina A&T), the Southern
(UNC Greensboro) and the Southland (McNeese State). The Lady Flames will also
meet either a Mountain West (UNLV) or Ohio Valley Conference (Austin Peay) opponent in their second game at the Lady Rebel Christmas Classic, on Dec. 21.
A Tradition of Success
Liberty finished the 2006-07 season with a 19-12 record, sealing the Lady Flames’
11th-straight winning campaign. Lady Flame seniors Allyson Fasnacht, Egle
Smigelskaite and Courtney Watkins have been a part of 79 victories in their three-plus
years with the program and have won at a .752 clip. The trio is the last portion of the
2005 “Sweet 16” qualifier remaining on the Liberty roster.

The Bench Bunch
Liberty’s bench players, highlighted by Molly Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Rachel
McLeod, have been a key component in the Lady Flames’ early-season success. The
Lady Flames’ reserves have outscored their opponent’s counterparts in seven of 10
games this year. Liberty is averaging 22.6 bench points per contest, 8.4 more than its
opponents. Three times (Glenville State, Virginia Tech and Xavier), the Lady Flames
limited their foe to four or fewer bench points.

Win No. 200 is on the Horizon
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is closing in on a milestone. He has compiled
194 victories during his first eight-plus seasons with the Lady Flames, leaving him just
six wins shy of 200. Green would become the first women’s basketball coach in Liberty
and Big South Conference history to reach the milestone.
If the Lady Flames win their next six games, Green will capture victory No. 200 at
home, versus George Mason (Jan. 15). If not, Green’s next opportunities will come at
Charleston Southern (Jan. 19) and at his alma mater, Coastal Carolina (Jan. 21).

Competing with the Commonwealth
Liberty is slated to play seven games against teams from the Commonwealth of
Virginia during the 2007-08 season. The Lady Flames are 2-1 versus in-state foes so
far, defeating Virginia Union (Nov. 30) and James Madison (Dec. 4) and losing at
Virginia Tech (Nov. 19).
Later in the season, Liberty will meet Richmond (Jan. 5), George Mason (Jan. 15)
and Radford twice (Feb. 6 and March 7). A year ago, the Lady Flames were victorious
in six of 10 games against Commonwealth opposition.

A Hard Row to Hoe
Six of Liberty’s 2006-07 opponents earned spots in the NCAA Tournament (George
Washington, James Madison, Marist, Pittsburgh, Texas-Arlington and UNC Asheville),
and this season’s schedule appears to be just as difficult.
The Lady Flames will face a quartet of 2007 NCAA Tournament teams this season,
including Final Four team North Carolina, James Madison, UNC Asheville and Xavier.
Liberty has 11 regular-season games slated versus 20-win squads from a season ago.
Eight of the contests against 20-win teams will be played away from the Vines Center.

Coach Carey Green Versus The Big South
Liberty is 123-12 (.911) against Big South opponents under Carey Green’s direction since he took the helm of the program prior to the 1999-2000 campaign. The Lady
Flames are 101-11 in regular season conference games and 22-1 in the Big South
Championship.
The Lady Flames have not lost to current Big South members Coastal Carolina (190), Winthrop (19-0) and Charleston Southern (18-0) with Green as head coach.
Lady Flames Excel in the Classroom
Liberty is not only enjoying a string of success on the hardwood, but the Lady
Flames have received national recognition for their work in the classroom. Liberty
ranked a program-best seventh in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association
(WBCA) Top 25 Honor Roll this past season on the strength of its 3.508 team GPA.
This is the fourth time in program history the Lady Flames have been included in
the Top 25 Honor Roll. Liberty tied for 14th during the 2005-06 academic year and
ranked 13th in 1999-2000, Carey Green’s first season at Liberty. The Lady Flames were
also 12th in 1998-99.

Liberty, which saw its streak of Big South titles halted at 10 a season ago, has been picked to finish second in the conference this season. Additionally, Lady Flame junior guard/forward Megan Frazee has
been tabbed the Preseason Big South Player of the Year for the second-straight time, in a poll of the Big South coaches, sports information directors and members of the media.
The Lady Flames return three starters and nine letterwinners from
their 2006-07 squad, which went 19-12 overall and tied for second in
the conference with a 10-4 loop mark. Liberty was ousted in the Big
South semifinals by Radford, who edged the Lady Flames for first
place in the preseason conference poll.
The Highlanders, the 2007 Big South Championship runners-up,
took 16 of 25 first-place votes and 162 total points. Liberty finished six
points back, with 156 points. The Lady Flames received the remaining
nine first-place votes.
Defending Big South Championship titlist UNC Asheville, the host
of the 2008 conference tournament, was voted third with 113 points.
High Point, the 2007 Big South regular-season champion, claimed 81
points to take fourth place.
The fifth and sixth-place teams finished very closely behind the
Panthers. Winthrop was voted fifth with 80 points, while Coastal
Carolina took sixth with 77 points. Charleston Southern is predicted to
finish seventh, as the Buccaneers tallied 31 points.
Frazee, Liberty’s lone representative on the preseason all-conference roster, was a first-team All-Big South honoree a season ago. She
led the conference in rebounds (8.5 rpg), free throw percentage (.772)
and three-point field goal percentage (.410) as a sophomore. The 6-3
guard/forward also ranked second with 17.2 ppg.

Receiving Some Recognition
After handing James Madison its first loss of the season and defeating Binghamton
to push its winning streak to six games, Liberty received its first Top 25 vote of the season. The Lady Flames earned a single vote in the Dec. 10 AP Top 25 Poll and increased
the total to four votes in the Dec. 17 AP Top 25 Poll.
A Tale of Two Halves
In six of 10 games this season, Megan Frazee has scored more second-half points
than she tallied in the first half. She is averaging 9.7 points during the final 20 minutes,
as compared to 7.2 points prior to intermission.
Frazee’s most recent example of dramatically increased second-half production
came Nov. 25 at Xavier. She helped the Lady Flames come from 11 points down to win,
61-56, notching 21 of her 28 markers after the break.
This phenomenon is not unprecedented for the junior from Xenia, Ohio, whose
most memorable collegiate game to date featured a stellar second half. Frazee led
Liberty to a 75-71 win at Virginia on Nov. 20, 2006, recording 31 of her 37 points and
nine of her 15 boards after halftime at John Paul Jones Arena.
Triple the Trouble
Liberty sports the only set of triplets currently playing for the same NCAA Division I
women’s basketball team--juniors Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee. Through eight
games, the Frazees are averaging 37.6 points and 18.1 rebounds per outing, good for
50.7 percent of the Lady Flames’ scoring output and 42.3 percent of the team’s boards.
One of the Frazees has led Liberty in scoring in each game this season. Molly
Frazee paced the squad once, Moriah Frazee has done so three times and Megan
Frazee has led the way in the other six contests.
Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee started together for the first time this season, Dec.
8 versus Binghamton, helping the Lady Flames defeat the Bearcats. The triplets were
a part of the same starting lineup on eight occasions during the 2006-07 season.
Collectively, the Frazee triplets are nearing the 2,000-point plateau for their career.
Megan Frazee has posted 961 points, Moriah Frazee has added 612 markers and Molly
Frazee has chipped in with 382, for a total of 1,955 career points.
Tracking a Pair of Milestones
Through 55 career games, Megan Frazee has tossed in 961 points, for an average
of 17.5 points per game. If she continues at her current scoring rate, Frazee is in line to
become Liberty’s 11th all-time 1,000-point scorer at North Carolina, on Dec. 30. Frazee
would be the third-fastest Lady Flame to reach 1,000 points. Elena Kisseleva took 47
games to score her 1,000th point and Brenda Gunsallus got there in game No. 50.
Frazee is also nearing 500 rebounds. She has pulled down 484 boards in her
career, good for an average of 8.8 rpg. Frazee is on pace to collect her 500th board on
Dec. 21, during either the championship or consolation game of the Lady Rebel
Christmas Classic. She would become the 19th member of Liberty’s 500-rebound club
and the sixth Lady Flame to post 1,000 points and 500 caroms in her career.
Liberty’s Iron Woman
Liberty senior shooting guard Courtney Watkins has yet to miss a contest, in the
first three-plus seasons of her Lady Flame career. Her consecutive games played
streak currently sits at 105. Liberty’s contest against Houston on Nov. 24 was Watkins’
100th-consecutive game played for the Lady Flames. If she can stay healthy, she is on
track to break 2007 graduate Michelle Parker’s Liberty and Big South records for career
games played during the Lady Flames’ second contest at the Big South Women’s
Basketball Championship. Parker finished with 125 career games played.
Juniors Molly and Moriah Frazee have also played in every game since they have
been a part of the Liberty roster. Each of them has appeared in 72-straight contests.

There is Only One
Junior guard/forward Megan Frazee has gone over the 20-point barrier 20 times
during her Liberty career. However, she is the only current Lady Flame with a 20-point
game to her credit. (Allyson Fasnacht and Moriah Frazee both own career highs of 19
points.)
The last time a Liberty player other than Megan Frazee scored 20 points was March
22, 2005, when Katie Feenstra totaled 29 points against DePaul, enabling the Lady
Flames to reach the “Sweet 16.”

Feasting at the Foul Line
Liberty led the Big South Conference in free throw percentage a season ago, connecting on 70.3 percent of its charity tosses. The Lady Flames are off to an even better start from the line through their first eight games of the 2007-08 season. Liberty is
shooting 77.4 percent at the free throw line, a mark superior to the school record of 71.7
percent, acheived in 1997-98. The Lady Flames rank 15th in the nation in the category.
Megan Frazee is leading the way, connecting on a conference-leading 90.7 percent
of her free throws. She sank a career-best 18-consecutive charity tosses at one point
earlier this season and has drained her last 13 attempts.

Miss Consistency
Junior Megan Frazee has scored in double figures in each of her last 22 games,
dating back to the 2006-07 season. It is the longest such streak of her career and the
longest by a Liberty player since Katie Feenstra scored 10 or more points in the first 26
games of the 2003-04 campaign.
Frazee has only scored nine or fewer points on four occasions at Liberty, and the
Ohioan has never done so in consecutive outings.
Clamping Down on Defense
The Lady Flames have held their last 29 opponents under 50 percent from the field.
The last Liberty foe to shoot 50 percent or higher was Marist, at the Maryland Terrapin
Classic on Dec. 29, 2006.
Liberty has limited six of its 10 opponents to 35 percent or lower field goal efficiency this season, and the opposition is shooting just 32.5 percent versus the Lady
Flames. Liberty ranks fifth nationally in the category.
Lady Flames On a Hot Streak
Liberty has won seven games in a row, which ties the Lady Flames for the ninthlongest current winning streak in the nation. The streak is Liberty’s lengthiest since a
14-game winning skein from Jan. 28 to March 11, 2006.
Rewriting the Record Book
Liberty set or tied a number of records during its 100-29 victory over Virginia Union
on Nov. 30. Here is a look at some of the notable accomplishments from the contest:
-- The Lady Flames’ field goal percentage (.646, 42-65) set new team and Vines Center
single-game records.
-- Liberty’s 11 three-pointers equaled the most the Lady Flames have ever made in a
game at the Vines Center.
-- Liberty’s 33 assists set a program NCAA Division I record.
-- Moriah Frazee went 8-for-8 from the field to establish a new Vines Center record for
single-game field goal percentage.
-- Liberty’s 100 points marked the eighth time in program history the Lady Flames have
scored in triple digits.
Starting Quickly
The Lady Flames’ 9-1 start is their best since the 1997-98 squad won its first 28
games of the year. Below is a list of Liberty’s all-time best openings to a season.
1997-98:

Fastest to Nine Wins
Liberty has reached the nine-win mark the earliest on the calendar in program history, tying the 1997-98 squad, after the Lady Flames improved to 9-1 with a 66-54 triumph over Glenville State on Dec. 15. The 1997-98 Lady Flames, who went undefeated during the regular season, also posted their ninth win on Dec. 15, a victory over
South Carolina State.
If the Lady Flames can win one game at this week’s Lady Rebel Christmas Classic,
they will become only the second Liberty squad to win 10 games before the end of
December, and the earliest to accomplish the feat. The 1997-98 team finished
December with a 10-0 ledger, after knocking off College of Charleston on Dec. 30.

Game 1
Greensboro, N.C.
Liberty opened the second half with a 130 run, breaking open a tight, seasonopening contest at UNC Greensboro. The
Lady Flames went on to claim a 62-44 win
at Fleming Gym, Tuesday evening, opening its season with a road win for the first
time since the 1979-80 campaign. Molly
Frazee’s career-best 17 points helped
Liberty open its 2007-08 season at 1-0.
The Lady Flames forced 19 turnovers,
limited the Spartans to 32.6 percent from
the field and owned a 42-25 edge on the
glass. UNC Greensboro fashioned an
early 7-0 run, taking a 9-2 advantage on a
pair of Agne Girstautaite free throws at the
12:53 mark. The Lady Flames held UNCG
scoreless for nearly six minutes late in the
half and were able to open up their largest
advantage of the opening 20 minutes, 2317, on Rachel Hammond’s third field goal
of the half. Liberty owned a 23-21 halftime
edge. Megan Frazee initiated a 13-0 second half-opening run by the Lady Flames
with a pair of layups. Rebecca Lightfoot’s
10-foot baseline jumper with 14:30 left
ended the run and put Liberty on top by a
36-21 count. Molly Frazee later poured in
eight-straight points to highlight a 12-0
Liberty run, which gave Liberty a 20-point
lead, 50-30, with 7:05 remaining. From
that point on, the Lady Flames cruised to
their fourth-consecutive victory in a season opener and defeated the Spartans for
the first time since March 1, 1997.

Game 2
Greensboro, N.C.
Megan Frazee’s first double-double of the
season (16 points, 10 rebounds),
Courtney Watkins’ career-high 15 points
and a late 10-0 run added up to Liberty’s
second win in Greensboro, N.C., in four
days. The Lady Flames held off North
Carolina A&T by a 68-64 score, at the
Corbett Sports Center. A three-pointer by
Rachel McLeod capped an 11-0 Liberty
surge during the opening half, putting the
Lady Flames on top, 26-17. Liberty, which
shot 51.9 percent from the field during the
opening 20 minutes, took a 41-34 lead
into the locker room. The homestanding
Aggies whittled away at the Liberty
advantage throughout the second half. A
13-5 surge cut the deficit to a single point,
53-52, with 13:10 left. A Ta’Wuana Cook
three-pointer and two Lamona Smalley
foul shots put North Carolina A&T ahead,
59-57, at 4:29. Liberty responded with a
10-0 run, spanning the next 4:09 and featuring a Courtney Watkins triple and an
Allyson Fasnacht three-point play.
Watkins’ three-pointer gave the Lady
Flames the lead for good. A Megan
Frazee lay-up finished the span and lifted
the Lady Flames to a 67-59 edge with just
37 seconds left. The Aggies quickly
trimmed the margin to three points, after a
Brittany Taylor-James three-pointer and a
Jaleesa Sams layup. Fasnacht then
sealed Liberty’s second-straight road victory to start the season, when her charity
toss provided the final margin of 68-64.

Game 3
Blacksburg, Va.
Liberty opened up a 10-point halftime lead
at Virginia Tech, but the Hokies came out
of the intermission on a 23-6 run, propelling them to a 73-68 decision at
Cassell Coliseum. Virginia Tech improved
to 14-0 all-time versus Liberty. The Hokies
controlled the early part of the game, and
a 7-0 run capped by a Brittany Cook layup
at 12:00 put them on top, 16-9. Six different Lady Flames scored during their most
effective stretch of the first half, a 13-2
surge. Rachel McLeod’s close-range basket lifted Liberty to a 38-28 advantage,
and the Lady Flames took the same 10point edge (40-30) into the locker room. It
took the Hokies just 3:14 to erase
Liberty’s lead, and the home team had
built a 53-46 edge, a little over six minutes
into the half. The Lady Flames battled
back and briefly retook the lead at the
3:44 mark, when Moriah Frazee’s layup
made the count 62-61, Liberty. The score
was deadlocked at 64 apiece when an
intentional foul call paved the way for a
four-point Hokie possession. The Lady
Flames were unable to get any closer the
rest of the way, and Virginia Tech made
three-of-four charity tosses in the final
minute to seal its 73-68 triumph. The
Hokies received 29 points from freshman
Andrea Barbour and 22 markers from
Brittany Cook. Liberty’s Moriah Frazee
contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.
Game 4
Cincinnati, Ohio
Liberty shot a season-best 55.2 percent
from the field and all 11 players scored
during a 92-52 win over McNeese State,
the opening game of the National City
Xavier Invitational. The Lady Flames
made their first three shots of the evening,
culminating with a fast break layup by
Rebecca Lightfoot at 17:35, which put
Liberty on top by a 6-0 count. After Marcy
Robinson got McNeese State on the
scoreboard with a mid-range jumper at
the 16:18 mark, Liberty answered with 14consecutive points. The Lady Flames’ run
included a trio of three-pointers, and the
Liberty advantage ballooned to 20-2 when
Molly Frazee sank a pair of free throws at
11:53. The Lady Flames’ lead reached 40
points, 55-15, 1:09 before the half, when
Moriah Frazee made a basket in the paint
to cap a 7-0 burst. Liberty took a 57-18
lead into the locker room at halftime, after
connecting on 64.5 percent (20-of-31) of
their field goals and six three-pointers during the opening 20 minutes. The Cowgirls
scored four of the first five points to start
the second half, closing the gap to 58-22
on Robinson’s hoop with 18:33 remaining.
Alexandria Bream recorded sevenstraight Liberty points near the middle of
the second half, the last two of which
increased the Lady Flame edge to 82-35.
From that point on, Liberty cruised to a
92-52 victory, scoring 90-plus points for
the sixth time under head coach Carey
Green’s direction. Megan Frazee finished
with 21 points and seven rebounds in just
16 minutes of work, in a return to her
home state of Ohio.

Game 7
Lynchburg, Va.
Playing its home opener after six games
away from the Vines Center, the Lady
Flames shot a team and Vines Centerrecord 64.6 percent from the field in a
100-29 win over Virginia Union. The Lady
Flames scored 100 points for the first time
in Carey Green’s nine seasons at the
helm. The Lady Flames and Panthers
combined to score on their first seven
possessions of the game. Liberty owned a
9-6 advantage after the barrage, which
featured a pair of hoops by Moriah
Frazee. Liberty held Virginia Union to a
single field goal over a 12-and-a-half
minute span. During the stretch, the Lady
Flames ripped off a 34-2 run. Liberty connected on six triples during the extended
surge, two apiece by Alexandria Bream
and Allyson Fasnacht, taking a 41-8 lead.
A Dashia Chandler three-point play kickstarted an ensuing 5-0 Virginia Union
surge. However, Liberty tallied eight of the
half’s final 10 markers to claim a 49-15
halftime edge. The Lady Flames posted
28 of the second half’s first 32 points, taking a 77-19 lead on Rebecca Lightfoot’s
layup with 11:17 left. Moriah Frazee posted 11 tallies during the stretch. Kittery
Maine’s basket with 20 seconds left put
Liberty at the 100-point plateau for the
first time since a 103-61 triumph over
Cedarville on Dec. 13, 1997. Five Lady
Flames reached double figures in the
points column, including all three Frazee
triplets. Moriah Frazee led all players with
a season-high 18 points, sinking all eight

Game 8
Lynchburg, Va.
All five Liberty starters scored in double
figures, helping the Lady Flames record a
pair of notable “firsts.” Liberty recorded its
first-ever win over James Madison, 79-66,
and handed the Dukes their initial loss of
the season. JMU scored on its first three
possessions of the evening and led by a
7-2 count after Tamera Young’s old-fashioned three-point play at 18:34. The
Dukes’ advantage reached a game-high
six points, 25-19, with 9:41 on the first-half
clock after a Jasmin Lawrence fast break
layup. The homestanding Lady Flames
were then able to put together an 8-1
burst and take their first lead of the game,
27-26, 6:00 before halftime. The lead seesawed back and forth before Liberty took
a 37-35 lead into the locker room, courtesy of Moriah Frazee’s seventh field goal
of the opening 20 minutes. Sister Megan
Frazee made an offensive push during the
opening minutes of the second half. Her
two free throws at 9:47 gave the Lady
Flames their first double-digit advantage,
59-49. Freshman center Lauren Jimenez
came off the James Madison bench and
tallied nine-straight Duke points. Her
three-point play at the 9:01 mark finished
a 5-0 burst, which sliced JMU’s deficit in
half. On Liberty’s ensuing possession, the
Lady Flames made their first three-pointer
of the contest, a timely connection by
Courtney Watkins which halted the James
Madison run and increased her team’s
lead to 62-54. The Dukes were unable to
get any closer than eight points the rest of
the way.

Game 9
Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty connected on 62.8 percent of its
field goals versus Binghamton. The Lady
Flames’ shooting efficiency propelled
them to their sixth-consecutive win, a 7640, wire-to-wire triumph over the
Bearcats. Liberty made four of its five field
goal attempts during an early 8-0 run, giving the Lady Flames their first double-digit
advantage. Courtney Watkins wrapped up
the surge with a layup off a Kittery Maine
steal, pushing the Liberty edge to 18-6 at
the 10:34 mark. Binghamton tossed in the
game’s next three points, trimming the
deficit to nine on Brianna Thompson’s free
throw with 9:04 showing on the first-half
clock. The Bearcats were still within 10 at
7:54, before experiencing a 6:24 scoring
drought. During the stretch, Liberty ran off
15-consecutive points. Moriah Frazee and
Rachel Hammond each contributed six
markers to the run. Hammond’s steal and
fast break layup capped off the surge with
Liberty on top, 36-11, 1:57 before the
break. The Lady Flames owned a 40-13
advantage at halftime. The Bearcats
scored four of the first six points after the
break, cutting the Liberty lead to 42-17 on
Jaki Goldner’s hoop with 17:10 left. That’s
as close as Binghamton would get the
rest of the afternoon, however. Later in
the second half, Liberty fashioned a 12-0
run, featuring five Rachel McLeod points.
From that point on, Liberty cruised to a
76-40 decision, as all 11 players registered their names in the scorebook, paced
by Moriah Frazee’s 17 markers.
Game 10
Lynchburg, Va.
A 14-0 run early in the second half helped
Liberty women’s basketball team break
away from a pesky Glenville State club for
a 66-54 victory at the Vines Center. The
Pioneers, making their first-ever visit to
the Vines Center, got off to a fast start, utilizing the three-point shot. Glenville State
owned a 9-4 advantage after its third longdistance connection, by Christine DiSabato at the 18:04 mark. Liberty
responded with a 15-2 surge over the next
8:18. Moriah Frazee provided six points
during the burst, including a layup at 9:46,
which put the Lady Flames on top by a 1911 margin. A 5-0 Glenville State burst
trimmed the Pioneers’ deficit to 19-16,
7:51 before the half. Courtney Watkins
answered with Liberty’s lone triple of the
afternoon on her team’s ensuing possession, initiating an 11-2 run. Watkins’ two
free throws at 4:33 boosted the Lady
Flames’ advantage to 30-18. Liberty took
a 36-29 lead into halftime. Pioneer Kristen
Golden made the first basket of the second half, bringing her team within five, 3631. Liberty held Glenville State scoreless
for more than five minutes after Golden’s
hoop, fashioning a 14-0 run. Rebecca
Lightfoot completed the surge with a layup
at 15:41. Another connection by Golden
finished a 5-0 burst by the visitors, shaving the Glenville State disadvantage to 5036 with 12:55 left. The Lady Flames then
sealed the victory with a 12-4 run, which
posted Liberty to its largest lead, 62-40.
The visitors got no closer than 12 the rest
of the afternoon, falling by that margin.
