The Games
The Liberty Lady Flames (2-1, 0-0 Big South) will attempt to bounce back from a
tight loss at Virginia Tech in a trio of games at the National City Xavier Invitational, this
Friday through Sunday. Liberty will meet first-time opponents McNeese State (0-5, 0-0

event. The host Musketeers are currently receiving votes in both the AP and
ESPN/USA Today Top 25 polls.
The Last Time Out
Liberty owned a 10-point halftime lead at Virginia Tech, Monday evening, and
seemed poised for its first-ever win over the Hokies. However, Virginia Tech emerged
from the locker room with a 23-6 run and went on for a 73-68 victory. The Hokies were
led by freshman Andrea Barbour’s 29 points and Brittany Cook’s 22 markers. Moriah
Frazee paced Liberty with 14 points and eight boards.
Lady Flames On The Air
All Lady Flames basketball games can be heard LIVE on WWMC 90.9 FM "The

Liberty University Head Coach: Carey Green (Coastal Carolina, '79)
Record at Liberty: 187-65 (Ninth year)
Overall Record: Same
You must be doing something right as a collegiate head women’s basketball coach,
if a 19-12 season is considered to be a bit of a letdown by many observers. That’s just
the case for Carey Green, the ninth-year head coach of the Liberty Lady Flames, who
has raised the program’s standards to an extremely high level.
Green has accumulated a 187-65 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning
percentage of .742. He ranked 12th among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball
coaches in winning percentage, at the beginning of the season.
More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to
the NCAA Tournament seven times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23
or more victories during six of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw
the Lady Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Green has actually been to the postseason on 19 occasions as a women’s basketball coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In
all but one of the 19 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, the Lady Flames went 19-12 and tied for second place in the Big
South. The season was highlighted by a 75-71 win at Virginia, which made the Lady
Flames the first visiting team ever to triumph in the brand-new John Paul Jones Arena.
Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and
the 2006-07 Lady Flames were no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an
average of 10.6 caroms per game, ranking fifth nationally. The Lady Flames have now
been listed among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin for four-straight
years. Liberty led the nation in the category in both 2003-04 and 2004-05.
The 2005-06 season represented one of the best coaching jobs of Green’s career.
The Lady Flames had lost the top four scorers from the Sweet 16 squad to graduation.
Moreover, freshman Megan Frazee averaged 18.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game
through the first 14 games of her collegiate career, but was lost for the remainder of the
season due to injury. Yet, Liberty was still able to win 25 games, capture its 10thstraight Big South title and earn its 10th-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
Green’s efforts were recognized by both the Big South Conference and the Virginia
Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Both groups named Green as women’s basketball coach of the year at season’s end. It was the third time he has won each of those
honors and marked Green’s second-straight selection as VaSID Coach of the Year.
A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. The previous season, Green had
passed Rick Reeves as Liberty’s career wins leader.
The record-setting victory was just one of the many reasons the 2004-05 year was
a special one on Liberty Mountain. A senior-laden Lady Flames team recorded upset
wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No. 5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the first two
rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the second team ever to advance to
the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended the season with their highest
national ranking to date, No. 21 (USA Today/ESPN).
Green’s track record shows he has the ability to meet strong challenges. The Lady
Flames have recorded two wins over both Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories
over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State, UNLV and Wake Forest
during Green’s tenure. The upset victory over No. 25 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty’s
first win over a Top 25 team.
His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames
on a Big South-record 47-game winning streak and currently has a .911 (123-12) winning percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference
play with one or fewer setbacks five times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated conference seasons.

Women’s Basketball Game Notes
Scouting McNeese State
McNeese State returned four starters and eight total letterwinners from its 2006-07
team, but the Cowgirls have struggled out of the gate this season, dropping each of their
first five decisions.
Ne’Aisha Anderson, a 5-7 freshman guard, is the team scoring leader, averaging 9.8
ppg through her first five collegiate games. The Cowgirls are coached by Brooks Donald
Williams, in her initial season as a collegiate head coach, and are in the midst of a fourgame Cincinnati road trip. McNeese State lost to Cincinnati, 83-44, Wednesday
evening, to kick off its road swing.
Scouting Houston
Houston has three starters back from its 2006-07 squad, which went 9-19. Included
among the returnees is 2007 Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year Tye
Jackson, a 5-10 senior guard who averaged 22.5 ppg a season ago.
The Cougars got some bad news during the preseason, when 10th year head
coach Joe Curl suffered a heart attack. Danny Hughes is serving as the interim head
coach while Curl recovers and has Houston off to a 1-3 start. Twiggy McIntyre, a 5-5
senior guard, has led the Cougars with 15.3 ppg thus far.

Scouting Xavier
Xavier upset nationally ranked George Washington to win the 2007 Atlantic 10
Tournament, but only has five players back from its championship squad. Amber Harris,
a 6-5 sophomore forward, headlines the returnees. She led last year’s team in both
scoring (16.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.9 rpg) and was voted Atlantic 10 Rookie of the
Year.
The Musketeers have won two of their first three 2007-08 matchups, including a 7268 comeback win over Penn State on Nov. 15. Harris contributed 30 points and 13
boards to the victory. Ta’Shia Phillips, a 6-6 freshman center, has also gotten her career
off to a flying start. She is averaging a double-double, with 11.7 ppg and 10.3 rpg.
The Coaching Matchups
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his ninth season with the Lady Flames. He
owns a 187-65 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big
South women’s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.742) ranked 12th
among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches at the beginning of the season.
Brooks Donald Williams is 0-5 to start her first year at McNeese State. A Mississippi
State alumnus, she spent the past three seasons as and assistant coach at Southern
Miss. Williams was an assistant when her Southern Miss squad was defeated by Liberty
at the N.C. State Tournament, 71-60, on Dec. 3.
Joe Curl is 142-126 in nine seasons as Houston’s head coach and 280-226 in 17
seasons overall. Danny Hughes is 1-3 so far this season, coaching in Curl’s stead.
Hughes is in his third year on Houston’s staff, after serving as associate head coach for
the Trinity Valley Community College men’s basketball team from 2000-05.
Xavier is coached by Kevin McGuff, who is 108-51 in his sixth season with the
Musketeers. He has led the Musketeers to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances
and four 20-win campaigns. McGuff was an assistant coach at Notre Dame for six years,
prior to beginning his tenure at Xavier. He was an assistant when the Fighting Irish captured the 2001 national title.
Liberty Versus the Southland Conference
McNeese State will be just the third Southland Conference team Liberty has ever
met on the hardwood. A season ago, the Lady Flames lost to Texas-Arlington in the
Caribbean Classic. Liberty is also 2-1 versus Nicholls State, with the most recent meeting being a 67-49 Lady Flame home triumph on Nov. 20, 1998.

Liberty Versus Conference USA
Liberty will be meeting Houston for the first time, but the Lady Flames are 2-4
against the current membership of Conference USA. Both of Liberty’s victories came
during the 2005-06 season, as the Lady Flames defeated Southern Miss at the N.C.
State Tournament and knocked off SMU at the Vines Center. Liberty is also 0-3 all-time
against Marshall and lost its only meeting with UCF.
Liberty Versus the Atlantic 10 Conference
The Lady Flames are 4-22 against the current members of the Atlantic 10
Conference, but 21 of their 26 meetings have come against in-state rival Richmond.
Liberty is 2-19 all-time versus the Spiders, entering the teams’ Jan. 5 contest at the
Vines Center. The Lady Flames have also faced Atlantic 10 units George Washington
(1-2), Rhode Island (1-0) and UMass (0-1) during their history.

In-Season Tournament Notes
Liberty struggled during its two in-season tournaments last year, the Caribbean
Classic and and the Terrapin Classic, going 0-4. Three of the Lady Flames’ four setbacks came to 2007 NCAA Tournament teams.
The last time the Lady Flames went unbeaten at an in-season tournament came
during their “Sweet 16” season of 2004-05. That year, Liberty took the title at Kansas
State’s Commerce Bank Wildcat Tournament, upsetting the host team, then ranked No.
17, in the title tilt.
Just for Starters
Liberty has now won four-consecutive season openers and five of its last six lidlifters. Under Carey Green, the Lady Flames are 5-4 in their first game of the season.
The Lady Flames are 4-0 under Green when they start the season at home and are 14 when they open up away from the Vines Center.
The last time Liberty had won a season opener played away from home, prior to its
Nov. 13 triumph at UNC Greensboro, was Nov. 30, 1979, when the Lady Flames
claimed a 60-53 decision over Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, under head coach
Linda Farver.

Liberty Versus Non-Conference Opposition
The Lady Flames own a 247-283 all-time record against non-conference competition. Liberty’s best-ever season against non-conference foes came in 1997-98, when
the Lady Flames went 14-1 outside the Big South. Liberty’s lone non-conference setback that season came to eventual national champion Tennessee in the first round of
the NCAA Tournament. The Lady Flames are 2-1 in non-conference tilts in the 2007-08
season.
Lady Flames to Battle Wide Range of Non-Conference Foes
This season, Liberty will face teams from 11 different Division I conferences during
its non-conference slate. These include the ACC (North Carolina and Virginia Tech),
America East (Binghamton), the Atlantic Sun (East Tennessee State), the Atlantic-10
(Richmond and Xavier), the CAA (George Mason and James Madison), Conference
USA (Houston), the MAC (Ball State), the MEAC (North Carolina A&T), the Southern
(UNC Greensboro) and the Southland (McNeese State). The Lady Flames will also
meet either a Mountain West (UNLV) or Ohio Valley Conference (Austin Peay) opponent in their second game at the Lady Rebel Christmas Classic, on Dec. 21.
A Tradition of Success
Liberty finished the 2006-07 season with a 19-12 record, sealing the Lady Flames’
11th-straight winning campaign. Lady Flame seniors Allyson Fasnacht, Egle
Smigelskaite and Courtney Watkins have been a part of 72 victories in their three-plus
years with the program and have won at a .735 clip. The trio is the last portion of the
2005 “Sweet 16” qualifier remaining on the Liberty roster.

An Experienced Team
For the first time since the 2004-05 “Sweet 16” season, head coach Carey Green
has an abundance of experience at his disposal. Nine of the 12 Lady Flames on the
active roster are juniors and seniors, and eight of the nine upperclassmen have started at some point during their time at Liberty. (Only Egle Smigelskaite has not started
during her career.) The Lady Flames’ current players have combined to start 241
games, headed by Allyson Fasnacht’s 66 starts.

Musical Starters
Head coach Carey Green used 12 different starting lineups in 31 games, during the
2006-07 season. The most common starting five consisted of Michelle Parker, Roli-Ann
Nikagbatse, Megan Frazee, Jamie Feagin and Moriah Frazee. The quintet went 4-2 on
the year.
Green’s most successful starting five turned out to be the one he penciled in for the
season’s first five games. Allyson Fasnacht, Courtney Watkins, Megan Frazee, Moriah
Frazee and Karolina Piotrkiewicz went 5-0 as a starting unit, including a 75-71 triumph
at Virginia.
Today’s probable lineup of Allyson Fasnacht, Courtney Watkins, Megan Frazee,
Rebecca Lightfoot and Moriah Frazee started together for the first time, Nov. 13 at UNC
Greensboro. Liberty is now 2-1 using this combination of two seniors and three juniors
to start the game.

Home Away from Home
Liberty will become very familiar with traveling south on Route 29 into North
Carolina this season, as up to eight of the Lady Flames’ games will be played in the Tar
Heel State. Ironically, Liberty will play more games in Greensboro (two) during the
month of November than it will at the Vines Center (one).
The Lady Flames opened the 2007-08 season with two trips to Greensboro, N.C.,
in four days. Liberty played UNC Greensboro on Nov. 13 and battled North Carolina
A&T Nov. 16.

Six of Liberty’s 2006-07 opponents earned spots in the NCAA Tournament (George
Washington, James Madison, Marist, Pittsburgh, Texas-Arlington and UNC Asheville),
and this season’s schedule appears to be just as difficult.
The Lady Flames will face a quartet of 2007 NCAA Tournament teams this season,
including Final Four team North Carolina, James Madison, UNC Asheville and Xavier.
Liberty has 11 regular-season games slated versus 20-win squads from a season ago.
Eight of the contests against 20-win teams will be played away from the Vines Center.

Coach Carey Green Versus The Big South
Liberty is 123-12 (.911) against Big South opponents under Carey Green’s direction since he took the helm prior to the 1999-2000 campaign. The Lady Flames are 10111 in regular season conference games and 22-1 in the Big South Championship.
The Lady Flames have not lost to current Big South members Coastal Carolina (190), Winthrop (19-0) and Charleston Southern (18-0) with Green as head coach.
Lady Flames Excel in the Classroom
Liberty is not only enjoying a string of success on the hardwood, but the Lady
Flames have received national recognition for their work in the classroom. Liberty
ranked a program-best seventh in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association
(WBCA) Top 25 Honor Roll this past season on the strength of its 3.508 team GPA.
This is the fourth time in program history the Lady Flames have been included in
the Top 25 Honor Roll. Liberty tied for 14th during the 2005-06 academic year and
ranked 13th in 1999-2000, Carey Green’s first season at Liberty. The Lady Flames were
also 12th in 1998-99.

Liberty, which saw its streak of Big South titles halted at 10 a season ago, has been picked to finish second in the conference this season. Additionally, Lady Flame junior guard/forward Megan Frazee has
been tabbed the Preseason Big South Player of the Year for the second-straight time, in a poll of the Big South coaches, sports information directors and members of the media.
The Lady Flames return three starters and nine letterwinners from
their 2006-07 squad, which went 19-12 overall and tied for second in
the conference with a 10-4 loop mark. Liberty was ousted in the Big
South semifinals by Radford, who edged the Lady Flames for first
place in the preseason conference poll.
The Highlanders, the 2007 Big South Championship runners-up,
took 16 of 25 first-place votes and 162 total points. Liberty finished six
points back, with 156 points. The Lady Flames received the remaining
nine first-place votes.
Defending Big South Championship titlist UNC Asheville, the host
of the 2008 conference tournament, was voted third with 113 points.
High Point, the 2007 Big South regular-season champion, claimed 81
points to take fourth place.
The fifth and sixth-place teams finished very closely behind the
Panthers. Winthrop was voted fifth with 80 points, while Coastal
Carolina took sixth with 77 points. Charleston Southern is predicted to
finish seventh, as the Buccaneers tallied 31 points.
Frazee, Liberty’s lone representative on the preseason all-conference roster, was a first-team All-Big South honoree a season ago. She
led the conference in rebounds (8.5 rpg), free throw percentage (.772)
and three-point field goal percentage (.410) as a sophomore. The 6-3
guard/forward also ranked second with 17.2 ppg.

Women’s Basketball Game Notes
Visiting the Buckeye State
This weekend, Liberty is making its first visit to Ohio, the Buckeye State, since Jan.
9, 2005. That afternoon, the Lady Flames lost to No. 9 Ohio State, 66-51, at Value City
Arena. Liberty’s last trip to Cincinnati came on Nov. 14, 2003, when the Lady Flames
dropped their season opener at Cincinnati, 73-62, as part of the Preseason WNIT.
Triple the Trouble
Liberty sports the only set of triplets currently playing for the same NCAA Division I
women’s basketball team--juniors Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee. The trio plays a
key role in the Lady Flames’ success. Through three games, the Frazees are averaging 34.3 points and 20 rebounds per outing.
A different Frazee has led the Lady Flames in scoring each game so far this season. Molly Frazee scored 17 points at UNC Greensboro, Megan Frazee totaled 16
markers at North Carolina A&T and Moriah Frazee had 14 points at Virginia Tech.
Tracking a Milestone
Through 48 career games, Megan Frazee has tossed in 835 points, for an average
of 17.4 points per contest. If she continues to score at her current rate, Frazee is in line
to become Liberty’s 11th all-time 1,000-point scorer at North Carolina on Dec. 30. She
is currently 13th on the school’s all-time scoring list.
Halfway There
Liberty’s Moriah Frazee and Allyson Fasnacht both reached the career 500-point
plateau during the same 13-2 run, near the end of the first half of Monday evening’s
game at Virginia Tech. Frazee ranks 44th on the Lady Flames’ all-time scoring list, with
511 points and Fasnacht is 46th with 503 tallies.
Liberty’s Iron Woman
Liberty senior shooting guard Courtney Watkins has yet to miss a game, through
the first three-plus seasons of her Lady Flame career. Her consecutive games played
streak currently sits at 98. Liberty’s game against Houston on Nov. 24 would be Watkins’
100th-consecutive game played for the Lady Flames.
Juniors Molly and Moriah Frazee have played in every game since they have been
a part of the Lady Flames’ roster, as well. Each of them has now appeared in 65-straight
contests.
Best in the Big South
Last season, Liberty led all Big South teams in free throw percentage (.703), field
goal percentage (.426), field goal percentage defense (.356), rebounding margin
(+10.6), defensive rebounds (27.2 rpg) and assists (13.52 apg).
Individually, Megan Frazee paced the conference in rebounding (8.5 rpg), free
throw percentage (.772) and three-point field goal percentage (.410).
Back to Normal
Last season, Liberty opened the season with the exact same roster and the exact
same coaching staff as the 2005-06 Lady Flames. This time around, the Lady Flames
have four new faces on the roster (freshmen Kittery Maine, Rachel McLeod, Heather
Smith and Avery Warley). Liberty also picked up a pair of new assistant coaches during
the offseason, Alexis Sherard and Andrea “Andy” Bloodworth.
In a unique twist, though, the Lady Flames’ roster is still devoid of sophomores.
Liberty’s 13 players include three seniors, six juniors and four freshmen.

There is Only One
Junior guard/forward Megan Frazee has gone over the 20-point barrier 17 times
during her Liberty career. However, she is the only current Lady Flame with a 20-point
game to her credit. (Allyson Fasnacht and Moriah Frazee both own career highs of 19
points.)
The last time a Liberty player other than Megan Frazee scored 20 points was March
22, 2005, when Katie Feenstra totaled 29 points against DePaul, enabling the Lady
Flames to reach the “Sweet 16.”
The Lady Flames have not had a 20-point scorer in either of their first two games
of the 2007-08 season. Molly Frazee’s career-high 17 points in the season opener at
UNC Greensboro is the highest single-game output by a Lady Flame player thus far.

From Red, White & Blue to Red, White & Blue
Megan Frazee and 2005 Liberty alum Katie Feenstra have both gotten a taste of
USA Basketball in recent months. Frazee was invited to the USA Basketball Women’s
National Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colo., this past May. She was one of 45 collegiate women’s basketball players who tried out for the U.S. U21 World Championship
Team and the Pan American Games Team.
Feenstra made her USA Basketball debut in October, helping the American squad
take the silver medal at the FIBA World League Tournament in Ekaterinburg, Russia. As
a result of her performance, she was officially added to the USA National Team roster.
The 6-8 center, who plays for the Detroit Shock of the WNBA, is one of approximately
30 players currently under consideration for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team.

Game 1
Greensboro, N.C.
Liberty opened the second half with a 130 run, breaking open a tight, seasonopening contest at UNC Greensboro. The
Lady Flames went on to claim a 62-44 win
at Fleming Gym, Tuesday evening, opening its season with a road win for the first
time since the 1979-80 campaign. Molly
Frazee’s career-best 17 points helped
Liberty open its 2007-08 season at 1-0.
The Lady Flames forced 19 turnovers,
limited the Spartans to 32.6 percent from
the field and owned a 42-25 edge on the
glass. UNC Greensboro fashioned an
early 7-0 run, taking a 9-2 advantage on a
pair of Agne Girstautaite free throws at the
12:53 mark. The Lady Flames held UNCG
scoreless for nearly six minutes late in the
half and were able to open up their largest
advantage of the opening 20 minutes, 2317, on Rachel Hammond’s third field goal
of the half. Liberty owned a 23-21 halftime
edge. Megan Frazee initiated a 13-0 second half-opening run by the Lady Flames
with a pair of layups. Rebecca Lightfoot’s
10-foot baseline jumper with 14:30 left
ended the run and put Liberty on top by a
36-21 count. Molly Frazee later poured in
eight-straight points to highlight a 12-0
Liberty run, which gave Liberty a 20-point
lead, 50-30, with 7:05 remaining. From
that point on, the Lady Flames cruised to
their fourth-consecutive victory in a season opener and defeated the Spartans for
the first time since March 1, 1997.

Game 2
Greensboro, N.C.
Megan Frazee’s first double-double of the
season (16 points, 10 rebounds),
Courtney Watkins’ career-high 15 points
and a late 10-0 run added up to Liberty’s
second win in Greensboro, N.C., in four
days. The Lady Flames held off North
Carolina A&T by a 68-64 score, at the
Corbett Sports Center. A three-pointer by
Rachel McLeod capped an 11-0 Liberty
surge during the opening half, putting the
Lady Flames on top, 26-17. Liberty, which
shot 51.9 percent from the field during the
opening 20 minutes, took a 41-34 lead
into the locker room. The homestanding
Aggies whittled away at the Liberty
advantage throughout the second half. A
13-5 surge cut the deficit to a single point,
53-52, with 13:10 left. A Ta’Wuana Cook
three-pointer and two Lamona Smalley
foul shots put North Carolina A&T ahead,
59-57, at 4:29. Liberty responded with a
10-0 run, spanning the next 4:09 and featuring a Courtney Watkins triple and an
Allyson Fasnacht three-point play.
Watkins’ three-pointer gave the Lady
Flames the lead for good. A Megan
Frazee lay-up finished the span and lifted
the Lady Flames to a 67-59 edge with just
37 seconds left. The Aggies quickly
trimmed the margin to three points, after a
Brittany Taylor-James three-pointer and a
Jaleesa Sams layup. Fasnacht then
sealed Liberty’s second-straight road victory to start the season, when her charity
toss provided the final margin of 68-64.

Game 3
Blacksburg, Va.
Liberty opened up a 10-point halftime lead
at Virginia Tech, but the Hokies came out
of the intermission on a 23-6 run, propelling them to a 73-68 decision at
Cassell Coliseum. Virginia Tech improved
to 14-0 all-time versus Liberty. The Hokies
controlled the early part of the game, and
a 7-0 run capped by a Brittany Cook layup
at 12:00 put them on top, 16-9. Six different Lady Flames scored during their most
effective stretch of the first half, a 13-2
surge. Rachel McLeod’s close-range basket lifted Liberty to a 38-28 advantage,
and the Lady Flames took the same 10point edge (40-30) into the locker room. It
took the Hokies just 3:14 to erase
Liberty’s lead, and the home team had
built a 53-46 edge, a little over six minutes
into the half. The Lady Flames battled
back and briefly retook the lead at the
3:44 mark, when Moriah Frazee’s layup
made the count 62-61, Liberty. The score
was deadlocked at 64 apiece when an
intentional foul call paved the way for a
four-point Hokie possession. The Lady
Flames were unable to get any closer the
rest of the way, and Virginia Tech made
three-of-four charity tosses in the final
minute to seal its 73-68 triumph. The
Hokies received 29 points from freshman
Andrea Barbour and 22 markers from
Brittany Cook. Liberty’s Moriah Frazee
contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.
