The Game
For the Liberty Lady Flames (17-2, 2-0 Big South), the middle game of their threegame homestand will mark the squad’s Big South home opener. Defending conference
regular-season champion High Point (9-9, 1-2 Big South) will visit the Vines Center
Tuesday evening, seeking its fifth win in the last seven meetings with Liberty.
Meanwhile, the Lady Flames hope to extend a pair of winning streaks. Liberty, on a sixgame winning skein, is 7-0 at home this season.
The Last Time Out
Presbyterian took nearly 12 minutes to record its first field goal, Saturday afternoon
at the Vines Center, enabling Liberty to run out to a 29-2 lead. The Lady Flames never
looked back, shooting 58.6 percent from the field in an 88-41 decision over the future
conference foe. Moriah Frazee led four Lady Flames in double figures with 15 points.
Rebecca Lightfoot added 12 points, six rebounds and a career-high five steals.

All Lady Flames basketball games can be heard LIVE on WWMC 90.9 FM "The
Light." Jamie Hall, who is celebrating his 14th year of broadcasting Lady Flames basketball, will once again be handling the courtside play-by-play duties for most road
games. Due to Hall’s television responsibilities, Jerod Brooks will serve as the primary
commentator for home games.

For the fifth year in a row, the Flames Television Network (FTN) plans to broadcast
all 13 home women's basketball games. FTN’s regular announcing team consists of
Ray Jones on play-by-play and Jamie Hall on color.

Liberty University Head Coach: Carey Green (Coastal Carolina, '79)

You must be doing something right as a collegiate head women’s basketball coach,
if a 19-12 season is considered to be a bit of a letdown by many observers. That’s just
the case for Carey Green, the ninth-year head coach of the Liberty Lady Flames, who
has raised the program’s standards to an extremely high level.
Green has accumulated a 202-66 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning
percentage of .754. He ranked 12th among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball
coaches in winning percentage, at the beginning of the season.
More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to
the NCAA Tournament seven times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23
or more victories during six of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw
the Lady Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Green has actually been to the postseason on 19 occasions as a women’s basketball coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In
all but one of the 19 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament.
Last season, the Lady Flames went 19-12 and tied for second place in the Big
South. The season was highlighted by a 75-71 win at Virginia, which made the Lady
Flames the first visiting team ever to triumph in the brand-new John Paul Jones Arena.
Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and
the 2006-07 Lady Flames were no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an
average of 10.6 caroms per game, ranking fifth nationally. The Lady Flames have now
been listed among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin for four-straight
years. Liberty led the nation in the category in both 2003-04 and 2004-05.
The 2005-06 season represented one of the best coaching jobs of Green’s career.
The Lady Flames had lost the top four scorers from the Sweet 16 squad to graduation.
Moreover, freshman Megan Frazee averaged 18.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game
through the first 14 games of her collegiate career, but was lost for the remainder of the
season due to injury. Yet, Liberty was still able to win 25 games, capture its 10thstraight Big South title and earn its 10th-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
Green’s efforts were recognized by both the Big South Conference and the Virginia
Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Both groups named Green as women’s basketball coach of the year at season’s end. It was the third time he has won each of those
honors and marked Green’s second-straight selection as VaSID Coach of the Year.
A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. The previous season, Green had
passed Rick Reeves as Liberty’s career wins leader.
The record-setting victory was just one of the many reasons the 2004-05 year was
a special one on Liberty Mountain. A senior-laden Lady Flames team recorded upset
wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No. 5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the first two
rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the second team ever to advance to
the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended the season with their highest
national ranking to date, No. 21 (USA Today/ESPN).
Green’s track record shows he has the ability to meet strong challenges. The Lady
Flames have recorded two wins each over UNLV, Virginia and West Virginia and solo
victories over No. 19 DePaul, James Madison, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State,
Xavier and Wake Forest during Green’s tenure. The upset victory over No. 25 Virginia
in 2002 marked Liberty’s first win over a Top 25 team.
His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames
on a Big South-record 47-game winning streak and currently has a .912 (125-12) winning percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference
play with one or fewer setbacks five times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated conference seasons.

Scouting High Point
The High Point Panthers are coming off a season which saw them go 18-12, capture the first Big South regular-season title in program history and advance to the WNIT.
Five players, including three starters, graduated from the milestone-achieving squad,
leaving head coach Tooey Loy with a new-look squad this season.
Five true freshmen dot the 2007-08 High Point roster, and each of them has made
an immediate impact. In fact, four of the squad’s top five scorers are rookies, headed by
5-7 guard LaTeisha Dean and 5-4 guard Jurica Hargraves. Both players are averaging
10.9 points per game. Amber Manuel, a 5-11 forward, is the team’s lone senior and has
given her team quality play under the basket, posting 7.8 ppg and a team-best 7.6 rpg.
High Point has excelled at home, going 7-2 at the Millis Center. However, the
Panthers are just 2-7 on the road. One of the road victories was an 81-70 triumph at
UNC Asheville on Jan. 19, in their Big South Conference opener. Since then, High Point
has dropped close decisions to Winthrop (68-67) and Radford (68-60).
The Coaching Matchup
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his ninth season with the Lady Flames. He
owns a 202-66 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big
South women’s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.754) ranked 12th
among active NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches at the beginning of the season. Green is 15-5 against the Panthers in his career.
Tooey Loy, a 1994 graduate of High Point, is 109-84 in his seventh season as head
coach at his alma mater. He has captured Big South Coach of the Year honors in both
2005 and 2007. Loy owns a 4-10 coaching record versus Liberty.
Liberty-High Point Series Notes
High Point has enjoyed more success versus Liberty in recent years than any other
conference foe. The Lady Flames lead the all-time series, 19-8, but the Panthers have
won four of the teams’ last six meetings. High Point has dealt Carey Green five of his
12 career losses to Big South opponents.
The Panthers swept the season series from Liberty a season ago, becoming the
first Big South team to do so since UNC Greensboro in 1996-97. High Point pulled out
a 64-62 home overtime decision on Jan. 20, as senior Katie Ralls hit the game-winning
floater with 1.5 seconds left. High Point’s Candyce Sellars led all players with 21 points.
The Panthers then defeated Liberty by a 67-61 count at the Vines Center three
weeks later. Sellars hit six three-pointers and finished with 26 points. Moriah Frazee led
the Lady Flames with 18 markers.
Liberty’s last win against High Point came on March 11, 2006, when the Lady
Flames held off the Panthers, 53-50, in the Big South Championship game.

Liberty in Big South Home Openers
Liberty is 13-4 in Big South home openers, including a current streak of seven-consecutive wins. The Lady Flames are 7-1 in their first conference home game under
head coach Carey Green. His lone home-opening conference setback was a 77-72 loss
to Elon in his first Big South game, Jan. 13, 2000. Liberty has never opened the home
portion of its Big South slate against High Point.
Home Cooking
Liberty is 7-0 at the Vines Center during the 2007-08 campaign, but the Lady
Flames are not the only Liberty athletic team which has benefitted from the friendly confines of the Vines Center.
Liberty is unbeaten in the last 29 athletic contests played at the 17-year-old oncampus facility, since the volleyball team lost to James Madison on Sept. 18. The
Liberty netters won 11-straight matches to end the year, the wrestling team tied N.C.
State and the Flames men’s basketball team has been victorious in its first 10 home
decisions of the season.

Big South Recognition
Liberty became the first conference team to garner a quartet of Big South Player of
the Week honors this season, and Megan Frazee became the first three-time winner of
the award. Frazee earned the honor on Nov. 26, Jan. 7 and Jan. 21, while sister Moriah
Frazee was recognized on Dec. 10. Megan Frazee has captured nine Big South Player
of the Week awards in her career, while the conference honor was the first of sister
Moriah Frazee’s time at Liberty.

Liberty’s 100-29 victory over Virginia Union on Nov. 30 marked the Lady Flames’
first 100-point game since a 103-61 triumph over Cedarville, Dec. 13, 1997 at the Vines
Center. It was the Lady Flames’ first 100-point output since Carey Green took over as
head coach, prior to the 1999-200 season. In fact, Green’s Liberty teams, which have

Liberty is 146-105 all-time during the month of January. Head Coach Carey Green
has gone 62-8 during the year’s first month in his eight-plus years with the Lady
Flames, including a perfect 9-0 January in 2002-03.
Last season, the Lady Flames won six out of seven January tilts. Liberty is 6-0 during the first month of 2008 and needs one more win to complete its first unbeaten

Liberty Versus Non-Conference Opposition
The Lady Flames own a 260-284 all-time record against non-conference competition. Liberty’s best season against non-conference foes came in 1997-98, when the
Lady Flames went 14-1 outside the Big South. Liberty’s lone non-conference setback
that season came to eventual national champion Tennessee in the first round of the
NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Flames are 15-2 in non-conference tilts during the 2007-08 season, after
closing out the non-conference portion of the schedule Saturday against Presbyterian.

Lady Flame seniors Allyson Fasnacht, Egle Smigelskaite and Courtney Watkins
have been a part of 87 victories in their three-plus years with the program and have
won at a .763 clip. The trio is the last portion of the 2005 “Sweet 16” qualifier remaining on the Liberty roster.
The Bench Bunch
Liberty’s bench players, highlighted by Molly Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Rachel
McLeod, have been a key component in the Lady Flames’ success. The Lady Flames’
reserves have outscored their opponent’s counterparts in 12 of 19 games this year.
Liberty is averaging 21.3 bench points per contest, 5.7 more than its opponents. Four
times (Glenville State, Richmond, Virginia Tech and Xavier), the Lady Flames have limited their foe to four or fewer bench points.

Green’s Milestone Win
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green reached a coaching milestone on Jan. 19, as the
Lady Flames’ 82-53 triumph at Charleston Southern was No. 200 of his nine-year
career. He became the first Big South women’s basketball coach to reach 200 wins and
fittingly, his milestone came against a Big South foe. Green has posted 125 of his victories (over 60 percent) against conference opposition.
Green’s 100th win also came during the “Beach Trip,” on Jan. 17, 2004 at Coastal
Carolina. Liberty’s head coach notched a 69-58 win over his alma mater, aided by 25
points and 11 rebounds from Katie Feenstra.

23rd in scoring defense (55.6 ppg).

Green Tops in Big South
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green currently ranks as the winningest coach in Big
South Conference history with a .754 winning percentage. His 202 career wins also put
him atop the conference’s coaching list.
Green is 103-11 in Big South Conference games and is also the all-time leader in
Big South Conference victories. He passed former Radford coach Luby Lichonczak
with a home win over Charleston Southern, Feb. 19, 2007.
Liberty Wraps Up Another Winning Season
With last Monday’s win at Coastal Carolina, Liberty’s 16th of the year, the Lady
Flames clinched their 12th-consecutive winning season and the 16th in program history.

Competing with the Commonwealth
Liberty is slated to play seven games against teams from the Commonwealth of
Virginia during the 2007-08 season. The Lady Flames are 4-1 versus in-state foes so
far, defeating Virginia Union (Nov. 30), James Madison (Dec. 4), Richmond (Jan. 5) and
George Mason (Jan. 15) and losing at Virginia Tech (Nov. 19).

Coach Carey Green Versus The Big South
Liberty is 125-12 (.912) against Big South opponents under Carey Green’s direction since he took the helm of the program prior to the 1999-2000 campaign. The Lady
Flames are 103-11 in regular season conference games and 22-1 in the Big South
Championship.
The Lady Flames have not lost to current Big South members Coastal Carolina (200), Charleston Southern (19-0) and Winthrop (19-0) with Green as head coach.
Lady Flames Excel in the Classroom
Liberty is not only enjoying a string of success on the hardwood, but the Lady
Flames have received national recognition for their work in the classroom. Liberty
ranked a program-best seventh in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association
(WBCA) Top 25 Honor Roll this past season on the strength of its 3.508 team GPA.
This is the fourth time in program history the Lady Flames have been included in
the Top 25 Honor Roll. Liberty tied for 14th during the 2005-06 academic year and
ranked 13th in 1999-2000, Carey Green’s first season at Liberty. The Lady Flames were
also 12th in 1998-99.

Carolina on Jan. 19 and 21, marking the ninth-straight year the Lady Flames have completed the “Beach Trip” with a 2-0 record. Liberty has never lost to either the Lady
Buccaneers or Chanticleers under head coach Carey Green’s direction, going 39-0
against the pair of South Carolina institutions.

Green’s direction. In fact, the Lady Flames have not lost consecutive conference tilts

The Lady Flames shot 58.6 percent from the field against Presbyterian on Saturday,

Receiving Some Recognition
Liberty received its first Top 25 vote of the season in the Dec. 10 AP Top 25 poll.
The Lady Flames notched a season-high eight votes on Dec. 24 and earned seven
votes in the most recent poll, released on Jan. 21.
In the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll, Liberty garnered its first vote on Dec.
18 and received 11 votes, equaling its most so far this season, in the Jan. 22 poll. The
Lady Flames had the 34th-most votes in the most recent poll.
Composure in Close Situations
The Lady Flames are 6-1 in games decided by 10 points or less during the 200708 campaign, after prevailing in their last five single-digit decisions. By contrast, Liberty
was only 6-10 in such games a season ago.
At Home on the Road
Liberty has only played seven home games out of its first 19 contests of the season. However, the Lady Flames have not minded life on the road, as evidenced by their
7-2 road ledger. Liberty opened the year with consecutive road triumphs and later
claimed tournament championships with victories at Xavier (Nov. 25) and UNLV (Dec.
21).
Liberty is 76-35 in road games under Green’s guidance, winning at a .685 rate. The
Lady Flames have posted six-straight winning seasons on the road.
Triple the Trouble
Liberty sports the only set of triplets currently playing for the same NCAA Division I
women’s basketball team--juniors Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee. Through 19
games, the Frazees are averaging 37.6 points and 18.6 rebounds per outing, good for
52.3 percent of the Lady Flames’ scoring output and 45.0 percent of the team’s boards.
Collectively, the Frazee triplets have totaled 2,293 career points and 1,216 career
rebounds.
Megan, Molly and Moriah Frazee started together for the first time this season, Dec.
8 versus Binghamton, helping the Lady Flames defeat the Bearcats. The triplets were
a part of the same starting lineup on eight occasions during the 2006-07 season.
One of the Frazees has led Liberty in scoring in 18 of this season’s first 19 games.
Allyson Fasnacht notched a team-high 19 markers at UNLV, Dec. 21.
Reaching a Pair of Milestones
Junior Megan Frazee recently reached a pair of career milestones. She became the
19th Lady Flame ever to pull down 500 rebounds, Dec. 21 at UNLV. Frazee then scored
career point No. 1,000 at No. 4 North Carolina, Dec. 30. The guard/forward is the 11th
member of Liberty’s 1,000-point club and is the third fastest to reach the mark, doing so
in her 58th career game.
Frazee is the sixth Lady Flame to top both 1,000 career points and 500 career
rebounds. Katie Feenstra, Elena Kisseleva, Sharon Snodgrass, Pam Wilder and
Sharon Wilkerson are the other members of this exclusive club.
Liberty’s Iron Woman
Liberty senior shooting guard Courtney Watkins has yet to miss a contest, in the
first three-plus seasons of her Lady Flame career. Her consecutive games played
streak currently sits at 114. Liberty’s contest against Houston on Nov. 24 was Watkins’
100th-consecutive game played for the Lady Flames. If she can stay healthy, she is on
track to break 2007 graduate Michelle Parker’s Liberty and Big South records for career
games played during the Lady Flames’ second contest at the Big South Women’s
Basketball Championship. Parker finished with 125 career games played.
Juniors Molly and Moriah Frazee have also played in every game since they have
been a part of the Liberty roster. Each of them has appeared in 81-straight contests.

The Lady Flames’ 64-62 overtime setback at High Point on Jan. 20, 2007 marked
the first time in Liberty’s previous 101 contests it had to play extra time.
The Lady Flames’ most recent win in overtime came on Jan. 6, 2004, when Liberty
defeated American, 76-72, on the road in double overtime. No current Lady Flame has
won an overtime contest in college.
Liberty’s most recent overtime contest at the Vines Center was a memorable one.

Hot in the Furnace
The 2007-08 campaign is the 16th season the Liberty University women’s basketball team has called the Vines Center its full-time home. Liberty’s first-ever contest at
the Vines Center was an 86-74 loss to East Tennessee State, on Dec. 7, 1990, but the
“Furnace” has served as a favorable venue for the Lady Flames over the years. Liberty

Junior guard/forward Megan Frazee has gone over the 20-point barrier 23 times
during her Liberty career. However, she is the only current Lady Flame with a 20-point

Liberty led the Big South Conference in free throw percentage a season ago, connecting on 70.3 percent of its charity tosses. The Lady Flames are off to an even better start from the line through their first 19 games of the 2007-08 season. Liberty is
shooting 74.5 percent at the free throw line, a mark superior to the school record of 71.7
percent, acheived in 1997-98. The Lady Flames rank 28th in the nation in the category.
Megan Frazee is leading the way, connecting on a conference-leading 87.8 percent
of her free throws. She has posted separate streaks of 19 and 18-consecutive made
charity tosses during the 2007-08 season.

Miss Consistency
Junior Megan Frazee has scored in double figures in each of her last 31 games,
dating back to Jan. 27, 2007. It is the longest such streak of her career and the longest
by a Liberty player since Elena Kisseleva scored 10 or more points in 62-straight contests, a streak which began in 1996-97 and ended in 1998-99.
Frazee has only scored nine or fewer points on four occasions at Liberty, and the
Ohioan has never done so in consecutive outings.
Clamping Down on Defense
The Lady Flames have held their last 38 opponents under 50 percent from the field.
The last Liberty foe to shoot 50 percent or higher was Marist, at the Maryland Terrapin
Classic on Dec. 29, 2006.
Liberty has limited 10 of its 19 opponents to 35 percent or lower field goal efficiency this season, and the opposition is shooting just 33.9 percent versus the Lady
Flames. Liberty ranks No. 7 nationally in the category.
No Offense, No Problem
Liberty defeated Richmond on Jan. 5 despite scoring a season-low 45 points and
making just three field goals after halftime. The Lady Flames had not scored that few
points in a victory since taking a 36-32 defensive struggle from Radford, Jan. 27, 2001.
Rewriting the Record Book
Liberty set or tied a number of records during its 100-29 victory over Virginia Union
on Nov. 30. Here is a look at some of the notable accomplishments from the contest:
-- The Lady Flames’ field goal percentage (.646, 42-65) set new team and Vines Center
single-game records.
-- Liberty’s 11 three-pointers equaled the most the Lady Flames have ever made in a
game at the Vines Center.
-- Liberty’s 33 assists set a program NCAA Division I record.
-- Moriah Frazee went 8-for-8 from the field to establish a new Vines Center record for
single-game field goal percentage.
-- Liberty’s 100 points marked the eighth time in program history the Lady Flames have
scored in triple digits.
Lady Flames in Elite Company
Liberty is both shooting the ball well from the field and limiting its opponents’ field
goal percentage this season. The Lady Flames rank 15th nationally in field goal percentage (.466) and are seventh in field goal percentage defense (.341).
Liberty is one of five teams in the nation to rank in the top 15 in both categories,
joining No. 1 Connecticut, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 6 Baylor and Utah.
Tournament Success
Liberty claimed its second tournament championship of the season with a 70-68
victory over host UNLV in the title tilt of the inaugural Lady Rebel Christmas Classic on
Dec. 21. Megan Frazee was voted tournament MVP and sister Moriah Frazee joined
her on the all-tournament team.
The Lady Flames previously won the championship trophy at the Nov. 23-25
National City Xavier Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio. Liberty won all three of its games,
becoming only the second visiting team ever to capture first place in the tournament.
Megan Frazee garnered tournament MVP honors after spearheading Liberty’s secondhalf comeback against Xavier and Moriah Frazee made the all-tournament team.
It is believed to be the first time in Liberty history the Lady Flames have won a pair
of in-season tournaments during a single campaign.

Liberty opened the second half with a 130 run, breaking open a tight, seasonopening contest at UNC Greensboro. The
Lady Flames went on to claim a 62-44 win
at Fleming Gym, Tuesday evening, opening its season with a road win for the first
time since the 1979-80 campaign. Molly
Frazee’s career-best 17 points helped
Liberty open its 2007-08 season at 1-0.
The Lady Flames forced 19 turnovers,
limited the Spartans to 32.6 percent from
the field and owned a 42-25 edge on the
glass. UNC Greensboro fashioned an
early 7-0 run, taking a 9-2 advantage on a
pair of Agne Girstautaite free throws at the
12:53 mark. The Lady Flames held UNCG
scoreless for nearly six minutes late in the
half and were able to open up their largest
advantage of the opening 20 minutes, 2317, on Rachel Hammond’s third field goal
of the half. Liberty owned a 23-21 halftime
edge. Megan Frazee initiated a 13-0 second half-opening run by the Lady Flames
with a pair of layups. Rebecca Lightfoot’s
10-foot baseline jumper with 14:30 left
ended the run and put Liberty on top by a
36-21 count. Molly Frazee later poured in
eight-straight points to highlight a 12-0
Liberty run, which gave Liberty a 20-point
lead, 50-30, with 7:05 remaining. From
that point on, the Lady Flames cruised to
their fourth-consecutive victory in a season opener and defeated the Spartans for
the first time since March 1, 1997.

Megan Frazee’s first double-double of the
season (16 points, 10 rebounds),
Courtney Watkins’ career-high 15 points
and a late 10-0 run added up to Liberty’s
second win in Greensboro, N.C., in four
days. The Lady Flames held off North
Carolina A&T by a 68-64 score, at the
Corbett Sports Center. A three-pointer by
Rachel McLeod capped an 11-0 Liberty
surge during the opening half, putting the
Lady Flames on top, 26-17. Liberty, which
shot 51.9 percent from the field during the
opening 20 minutes, took a 41-34 lead
into the locker room. The homestanding
Aggies whittled away at the Liberty
advantage throughout the second half. A
13-5 surge cut the deficit to a single point,
53-52, with 13:10 left. A Ta’Wuana Cook
three-pointer and two Lamona Smalley
foul shots put North Carolina A&T ahead,
59-57, at 4:29. Liberty responded with a
10-0 run, spanning the next 4:09 and featuring a Courtney Watkins triple and an
Allyson Fasnacht three-point play.
Watkins’ three-pointer gave the Lady
Flames the lead for good. A Megan
Frazee lay-up finished the span and lifted
the Lady Flames to a 67-59 edge with just
37 seconds left. The Aggies quickly
trimmed the margin to three points, after a
Brittany Taylor-James three-pointer and a
Jaleesa Sams layup. Fasnacht then
sealed Liberty’s second-straight road victory to start the season, when her charity
toss provided the final margin of 68-64.

Liberty opened up a 10-point halftime lead
at Virginia Tech, but the Hokies came out
of the intermission on a 23-6 run, propelling them to a 73-68 decision at
Cassell Coliseum. Virginia Tech improved
to 14-0 all-time versus Liberty. The Hokies
controlled the early part of the game, and
a 7-0 run capped by a Brittany Cook layup
at 12:00 put them on top, 16-9. Six different Lady Flames scored during their most
effective stretch of the first half, a 13-2
surge. Rachel McLeod’s close-range basket lifted Liberty to a 38-28 advantage,
and the Lady Flames took the same 10point edge (40-30) into the locker room. It
took the Hokies just 3:14 to erase
Liberty’s lead, and the home team had
built a 53-46 edge, a little over six minutes
into the half. The Lady Flames battled
back and briefly retook the lead at the
3:44 mark, when Moriah Frazee’s layup
made the count 62-61, Liberty. The score
was deadlocked at 64 apiece when an
intentional foul call paved the way for a
four-point Hokie possession. The Lady
Flames were unable to get any closer the
rest of the way, and Virginia Tech made
three-of-four charity tosses in the final
minute to seal its 73-68 triumph. The
Hokies received 29 points from freshman
Andrea Barbour and 22 markers from
Brittany Cook. Liberty’s Moriah Frazee
contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.
Game 4
Cincinnati, Ohio
Liberty shot a season-best 55.2 percent
from the field and all 11 players scored
during a 92-52 win over McNeese State,
the opening game of the National City
Xavier Invitational. The Lady Flames
made their first three shots of the evening,
culminating with a fast break layup by
Rebecca Lightfoot at 17:35, which put
Liberty on top by a 6-0 count. After Marcy
Robinson got McNeese State on the
scoreboard with a mid-range jumper at
the 16:18 mark, Liberty answered with 14consecutive points. The Lady Flames’ run
included a trio of three-pointers, and the
Liberty advantage ballooned to 20-2 when
Molly Frazee sank a pair of free throws at
11:53. The Lady Flames’ lead reached 40
points, 55-15, 1:09 before the half, when
Moriah Frazee made a basket in the paint
to cap a 7-0 burst. Liberty took a 57-18
lead into the locker room at halftime, after
connecting on 64.5 percent (20-of-31) of
their field goals and six three-pointers during the opening 20 minutes. The Cowgirls
scored four of the first five points to start
the second half, closing the gap to 58-22
on Robinson’s hoop with 18:33 remaining.
Alexandria Bream recorded sevenstraight Liberty points near the middle of
the second half, the last two of which
increased the Lady Flame edge to 82-35.
From that point on, Liberty cruised to a
92-52 victory, scoring 90-plus points for
the sixth time under head coach Carey
Green’s direction. Megan Frazee finished
with 21 points and seven rebounds in just
16 minutes of work, in a return to her
home state of Ohio.

valiant comeback attempt to prevail, 7061. Megan and Moriah Frazee combined
to score the Lady Flames’ first 14 points of
the evening, but a Ryan Bradley threepointer for Houston knotted the score at
10-10 with 14:11 left in the first half.
Liberty answered with a 12-3 spurt, featuring two field goals apiece by Molly
Frazee and Rebecca Lightfoot. At the conclusion of the run, Liberty’s lead was 2213 at 8:26. Houston came right back with
a 16-4 run, taking its first lead of the
game, 29-26, on Tye Jackson’s threepointer from the corner, 26 seconds
before intermission. Molly Frazee’s triple
tied the score at 29-all, heading to the
locker room. The duo of Megan and
Moriah Frazee got Liberty started in the
second half, notching the first 10 points of
a half-opening 12-2 burst. Courtney
Watkins’ coast-to-coast layup at the 14:52
mark pushed the Lady Flames’ lead to 4131. Liberty’s advantage reached 17, 6144, before Houston’s final comeback
attempt. The Cougars put together a 13-1
surge, trimming the deficit to 62-57 when
Courtney Taylor cashed out a pair of free
throws with 1:15 left. Liberty then put the
game away with five-straight points of its
own, on its way to a 70-61 decision in its
first-ever meeting with Houston. Megan
Frazee’s 25th career double-double
included 19 points and 12 boards, while
Moriah Frazee’s first double-double featured 16 points and 11 rebounds.

City Xavier Invitational championship
game, Liberty’s Megan Frazee took over
offensively. She scored 21 of her gamehigh points after halftime, earning tournament MVP honors and leading the Lady
Flames to a 61-56 victory. A pair of Amber
Harris three-pointers enabled the
Musketeers to start out with an 8-2 lead. It
took just over a minute for Liberty to
respond with seven-straight markers. A
Molly Frazee three-pointer from the wing
put the Lady Flames in front, 9-8, at the
13:06 mark. Xavier countered with an
extended 17-3 run, featuring three triples.
Ta’Shia Phillips pair of free throws 4:51
before halftime, gave the home team its
largest lead of the afternoon, 25-12.
Liberty cut into the lead with a 9-2 run,
which ended with a long three-pointer by
Megan Frazee. At halftime, the Lady
Flames trailed by nine points, 30-21. The
Xavier edge reached 11 before Liberty
started to chip away at it. A 9-3 Lady
Flame burst trimmed the gap to 35-30,
after Moriah Frazee’s three-pointer with
14:33 remaining. Liberty got to within a
single point three times before breaking
through with a decisive 10-0 run. Megan
Frazee recorded the final eight points of
the run, including a pair of free throws at
5:00. Her foul shots gave the Lady
Flames the lead for good at 49-48. By the
time the run was completed, Liberty was
up, 55-48, and went on to claim victory.

Playing its home opener after six games
away from the Vines Center, the Lady
Flames shot a team and Vines Centerrecord 64.6 percent from the field in a
100-29 win over Virginia Union. The Lady
Flames scored 100 points for the first time
in Carey Green’s nine seasons at the
helm. The Lady Flames and Panthers
combined to score on their first seven
possessions of the game. Liberty owned a
9-6 advantage after the barrage, which
featured a pair of hoops by Moriah
Frazee. Liberty held Virginia Union to a
single field goal over a 12-and-a-half
minute span. During the stretch, the Lady
Flames ripped off a 34-2 run. Liberty connected on six triples during the extended
surge, two apiece by Alexandria Bream
and Allyson Fasnacht, taking a 41-8 lead.
A Dashia Chandler three-point play kickstarted an ensuing 5-0 Virginia Union
surge. However, Liberty tallied eight of the
half’s final 10 markers to claim a 49-15
halftime edge. The Lady Flames posted
28 of the second half’s first 32 points, taking a 77-19 lead on Rebecca Lightfoot’s
layup with 11:17 left. Moriah Frazee posted 11 tallies during the stretch. Kittery
Maine’s basket with 20 seconds left put
Liberty at the 100-point plateau for the
first time since a 103-61 triumph over
Cedarville on Dec. 13, 1997. Five Lady
Flames reached double figures in the
points column, including all three Frazee
triplets. Moriah Frazee led all players with
a season-high 18 points, sinking all eight
of her field goals.

All five Liberty starters scored in double
figures, helping the Lady Flames record a
pair of notable “firsts.” Liberty recorded its
first-ever win over James Madison, 79-66,
and handed the Dukes their initial loss of
the season. JMU scored on its first three
possessions of the evening and led by a
7-2 count after Tamera Young’s old-fashioned three-point play at 18:34. The
Dukes’ advantage reached a game-high
six points, 25-19, with 9:41 on the first-half
clock after a Jasmin Lawrence fast break
layup. The homestanding Lady Flames
were then able to put together an 8-1
burst and take their first lead of the game,
27-26, 6:00 before halftime. The lead seesawed back and forth before Liberty took
a 37-35 lead into the locker room, courtesy of Moriah Frazee’s seventh field goal
of the opening 20 minutes. Sister Megan
Frazee made an offensive push during the
opening minutes of the second half. Her
two free throws at 9:47 gave the Lady
Flames their first double-digit advantage,

half. On Liberty’s ensuing possession, the
Lady Flames made their first three-pointer
of the contest, a timely connection by
Courtney Watkins which halted the James
Madison run and increased her team’s

them to their sixth-consecutive win, a 7640, wire-to-wire triumph over the

Liberty women’s basketball team break
away from a pesky Glenville State club for
a 66-54 victory at the Vines Center. The
Pioneers, making their first-ever visit to
the Vines Center, got off to a fast start, utilizing the three-point shot. Glenville State
owned a 9-4 advantage after its third longdistance connection, by Christine DiSabato at the 18:04 mark. Liberty
responded with a 15-2 surge over the next
8:18. Moriah Frazee provided six points
during the burst, including a layup at 9:46,
which put the Lady Flames on top by a 1911 margin. A 5-0 Glenville State burst
trimmed the Pioneers’ deficit to 19-16,
7:51 before the half. Courtney Watkins
answered with Liberty’s lone triple of the
afternoon on her team’s ensuing possession, initiating an 11-2 run. Watkins’ two
free throws at 4:33 boosted the Lady
Flames’ advantage to 30-18. Liberty took
a 36-29 lead into halftime. Pioneer Kristen
Golden made the first basket of the second half, bringing her team within five, 3631. Liberty held Glenville State scoreless
for more than five minutes after Golden’s
hoop, fashioning a 14-0 run. Rebecca
Lightfoot completed the surge with a layup
at 15:41. Another connection by Golden
finished a 5-0 burst by the visitors, shaving the Glenville State disadvantage to 5036 with 12:55 left. The Lady Flames then
sealed the victory with a 12-4 run, which
posted Liberty to its largest lead, 62-40.
The visitors got no closer than 12 the rest
of the afternoon, falling by that margin.

Liberty drilled five three-pointers during a
24-2 run early in the first half, taking control of the opening game of the Lady
Rebel Christmas Classic early on. The
Lady Flames went on to defeat Ball State,
68-56. Liberty’s 24-2 surge included five
three-pointers. Rachel Hammond scored
11 points during the run and drained three
of Liberty’s three-pointers. The last of her
long-distance connections came at 9:44,
putting the Lady Flames on top by a 29-7
margin. All of the Cardinals’ points during
a 9-2 run came from three-pointers.
Audrey McDonald connected from long
range with 1:58 on the first-half clock to
pull her team within 11 at 36-25. Molly
Frazee recorded four of the first half’s final
six markers, including a layup with 16 seconds left, lifting Liberty to a 40-27 advantage at the intermission. After Moriah
Frazee opened the second-half scoring
with a hoop 1:30 into the stanza, Ball
State scored the next four points, cutting
the Liberty edge to 42-31 on Green’s two
free throws at 16:52. The Cardinals were
still within 11 points, before Megan and
Moriah Frazee combined for all of
Liberty’s offense during an 8-2 burst.
Moriah Frazee’s putback at the 12:00
mark capped the run, increasing the Lady
Flames’ lead to 52-35. Consecutive triples
initiated a 9-2 surge, enabling Ball State to
pull to within 10 points, 54-44, with 7:50
remaining in the second half. However,
the Cardinals were unable to get any closer and Liberty clsoed out a 68-56 victory
by making six of eight foul shots in the
final minute.

Allyson Fasnacht made all six of her free
throws in the final 32.5 seconds, enabling
her team to hold off host UNLV’s late rally
and claim a hard-fought 70-68 victory.
With the win, the Lady Flames captured
the inaugural Lady Rebel Christmas
Classic title. An 8-2 run allowed UNLV to
claim a 13-11 advantage on Allison
Holiday’s three-pointer from the top of the
key, 13:57 before halftime. The teams
were tied at 25-apiece before Molly
Frazee drilled Liberty’s first three-pointer
of the night, starting a 12-2 Liberty surge.
Subsequent three-pointers by Courtney
Watkins and Fasnacht highlighted the
extended Liberty run, which ended with
the Lady Flames holding their first doubledigit lead of the game. Megan Frazee’s
field goal closed out the surge, putting her
team on top by a 37-27 margin, 1:00
before the break. UNLV trimmed the gap
to six with four quick points, but Liberty
owned a 39-31 halftime edge. Liberty’s
lead ballooned to 47-36 points at the
17:13 mark, after a 6-1 burst. Sequoia
Holmes began to find her range for the
Lady Rebels, and her back-to-back triples
finished a 9-2 Lady Rebel run. The burst
trimmed Liberty’s lead to 54-52 with 8:22
to play. Holmes’ four-straight points tied
the score at 62 with 2:29 on the clock.
Neither team scored again until Megan
Frazee sank a jumper in transition with 56
seconds left, giving Liberty the lead for
good, 64-62. Fasnacht then sealed the
win by making six-consecutive free
throws.

Megan Frazee became the 11th Liberty
player to reach 1,000 career points, but
the Lady Flames saw their nine-game
winning streak halted by No. 4 North
Carolina, 88-67. Frazee scored on the
first Liberty possession of the afternoon,
putting back her own missed shot for the
Lady Flames’ only lead of the game. North
Carolina then roared back with 11-unanswered points and went ahead by an 11-2
margin when Jessica Breland made both
of her free throws at the 16:29 mark.
Frazee’s 999th and 1,000th career points
came when she banked in a shot from the
right block with 9:23 showing on the firsthalf clock. Her milestone connection ignited an extended, 13-4 Liberty run.
Frazee’s third field goal of the surge
pulled her team to within two points, 2523, 6:17 before the break. Cetera
DeGraffenreid’s fast break layup off a Tar
Heel steal at the 2:23 mark finished an
ensuing 14-4 North Carolina surge.
LaToya Pringle contributed five points to
the run, which boosted coach Sylvia
Hatchell’s squad’s edge to 39-27. North
Carolina then took a 45-31 halftime lead.
North Carolina’s initial three-point connection of the contest, by Rebecca Gray,
enabled the Tar Heels to claim a 20-point
advantage with 13:44 on the clock, 60-40.
Liberty countered with eight-straight
markers, six of them by Molly Frazee.
Frazee’s pair of foul shots at the 11:54
mark made the score 60-48, North
Carolina. That was as close as the Lady
Flames would get, though. North Carolina
claimed an 88-67 win on the strength of
21 steals and 28 made free throws.
Game 14
Lynchburg, Va.
The Liberty women’s basketball team held
Richmond to a single field goal during a
14-minute stretch of the second half, as
the Lady Flames prevailed in a defensive
struggle, 45-38. Liberty won despite making only three shots from the field in the
second half. Megan Frazee, who finished
with a game-high 21 markers and eight
rebounds, scored Liberty’s first seven
points, helping stake the Lady Flames to
an early 9-4 edge. The Spiders came
back to tie the score twice during an ensuing 7-2 spurt. Megan Frazee then closed
out the half in the same manner she had
started it. She made back-to-back layups,
giving Liberty a 25-16 halftime edge.
Richmond tallied the initial seven points of
the second half, trimming its deficit to 2523 when Katie Holzer sank a layup, 2:48
after the intermission. Liberty held the visitors scoreless for 9:02, fashioning an 8-0
run in the meantime. Megan Frazee gave
Liberty its first double-digit lead of the
contest, 36-26, with a pair of free throws
at the 8:36 mark. Kara Powell’s two charity tosses with 1:03 left cut the deficit to
40-34. But that’s as close as the Spiders
would get, as Liberty closed out a 45-38
triumph by draining five-of-six free throws
in the final minute. The 45 points marked
the fewest the Lady Flames have scored
in a victory since edging Radford, 36-32,
on Jan. 27, 2001.

Liberty came from behind with a gameending 9-2 run at East Tennessee State,
claiming a hard-fought, 64-60 victory at
the Memorial Center. Molly Frazee’s
three-point play with 1:05 left put the Lady
Flames ahead for good. Liberty drained its
first five shots from the field, running out
to an early 11-2 advantage. Megan
Frazee closed out the surge with a baseline jumper at the 17:47 mark. The Lady
Flames were then able to score only four
points over the next 12:19, and the Liberty
drought enabled ETSU to take its first
lead, 17-15, on Devin Thompson’s oldfashioned three-point play, 6:46 before
halftime. The two sides then went back
and forth for the remainder of the opening
20 minutes. Jenny Norman’s layup at the
17-second mark gave the Lady Bucs a
30-29 advantage at the intermission. The
Lady Flames got off to a strong start in the
second half. Liberty put together a 10-0
spurt, keeping ETSU off the scoreboard
for nearly five minutes. The run resulted in
a 41-32 Lady Flame edge. East
Tennessee State battled back and a 10-2
run put the Lady Bucs back on top, 55-53,
with 3:19 remaining. The ETSU lead
stood at 58-55 at 2:05. Megan Frazee cut
the deficit to one, after going two-for-two
from the line at 2:01. Sister Molly Frazee
followed with the aforementioned threepoint play with 1:05 left, giving her squad
the lead for good at 60-58. Siarre Evans’
second-chance layup with 21 seconds on
the clock sliced the lead to a single point,
61-60, but those would be the Lady Bucs’
final tallies of the evening. A Moriah
Frazee lay-in and another charity toss by
Megan Frazee wrapped up a 64-60
squeaker for the Lady Flames.
Game 16
Lynchburg, Va.
An 11-2 surge early in the second half
helped the Liberty women’s basketball
team break open a close game against
George Mason, and the Lady Flames
went on to claim a 69-54 victory over the
Patriots. Liberty’s early edge reached five
points before the visiting Patriots fashioned an 11-2 surge. Eugenia Broadus’
connections from the line left the Patriots
in front, 18-14. The Lady Flames went
back on top after a 7-1 burst. Molly
Frazee’s driving layup at the 5:56 mark
gave Liberty a 23-21 edge. The two
squads continued to exchange the lead
over the next several minutes, trading the
advantage six times over the remainder of
the stanza. Liberty closed out the half with
an 8-0 surge over the final 2:05. Megan
Frazee sent the Lady Flames into the
break on top, 36-31, after sinking a threepointer from the corner as the halftime

Megan Frazee’s 24 points and nine
rebounds helped the Lady Flames cruise
to an 82-53 win over Charleston Southern
in their Big South opener, giving head
coach Carey Green his 200th career triumph. Consecutive three-pointers by
Courtney Watkins, the second of which
came at 14:23, bumped Liberty’s early
advantage to eight points, 11-3. The Lady
Buccaneers quickly sliced their deficit in
half with four-straight markers. Cindee
Wright’s hoop in transition made the score
11-7, Liberty with 13:43 showing on the
first-half clock. The Lady Flames came
right back with a 12-0 surge. Watkins
closed out the run with a jumper from the
corner, putting Liberty on top by a 23-7
count at the 8:37 mark. A string of nineconsecutive Liberty points scored by
Megan Frazee enabled the Lady Flames
to take their largest lead of the stanza, 3413. The Lady Buccaneers responded,
notching 12 of the half’s final 16 points. By
halftime, the Liberty advantage had been
trimmed to 38-25. Liberty roared out of the
gate to start the second half, sinking its
first four shots as part of a half-opening, 92 surge. Allyson Fasnacht’s fast break
layup capped the run, bolstering the Lady
Flames’ lead to 47-27. A 19-3 Liberty
spurt, featuring 11 points from sister tandem Megan and Molly Frazee, allowed
the Lady Flames to double up CSU’s
score, 68-34. From that point on, Liberty
cruised to its fourth-straight victory to
open the calendar year 2008.

Flames to complete a 2-0 “Beach Trip”
with a 71-44 triumph. After Coastal
Carolina got on the board first, Liberty’s
halfcourt-trapping defense began to
cause
some
problems
for
the
Chanticleers. The Lady Flames forced a
trio of turnovers during an ensuing 10-0
run, which put Liberty on top by a 10-2
margin at the 15:59 mark. Consecutive
three-pointers by Vicky Blanchard and
Lacey Lyons quickly cut the Coastal
Carolina deficit to 10-8, with 15:07
remaining in the half. Liberty then limited
the homestanding Chanticleers to a single
field goal over the next 12 minutes of
action. The stinginess enabled the Lady
Flames to put together a 20-2 surge, featuring eight Allyson Fasnacht points.
Moriah Frazee’s hoop at the 3:18 mark lifted Liberty to a 20-point advantage, 30-10.
Liberty took the same margin into the
locker room, leading 34-14 after 20 minutes. The Lady Flames built their lead during the first 2:18 of the second half, tallying six-consecutive points. Moriah
Frazee’s layup made the score 40-14,
Lady Flames. Coastal Carolina’s first field
goal of the second half did not come until
6:34 had elapsed. By that time, Liberty’s
edge had ballooned to 32, 50-18. C.J.
Ware closed out a 7-2 burst by the
Chanticleers with a basket at 12:01,
pulling her team to within 52-25. Liberty
scored the next seven points, recapturing

The Liberty defense held visiting
Presbyterian without a field goal for the
first 12 minutes, running out to a 29-2
lead. The Lady Flames went on to claim
an 88-41 win in their first-ever meeting
with the Lady Blue Hose. Megan and
Moriah Frazee combined to score the
afternoon’s first eight points for the Lady
Flames, giving the home team a lead it
never relinquished. Presbyterian got on
the board at the 17:18 mark of the opening half, on a pair of charity tosses by Amy
Jones. The Lady Blue Hose did not score
again for more than nine minutes, allowing Liberty to reel off a 21-0 run. Rachel
Hammond lifted Liberty’s lead to 29-2 with
a jumper at 8:37. Katlin Moore’s threepointer snapped Presbyterian’s field goal
drought and initiated a 9-1 burst for the
blue-clad visitors. Sharie Hopkins’ third
layup of the surge, coming with 5:42 on
the first-half clock, trimmed her team’s
deficit to 30-11. Presbyterian only scored
two more points the remainder of the stanza, though, and Liberty took a 38-13 edge
into the intermission. Head coach Carey
Green’s squad opened the second half
with an 8-2 burst, bumping its lead over
30 points for the first time at the 17:22
mark, when Lightfoot drained a layup to
make it 46-15. The Lady Blue Hose never
got closer than 29 the rest of the way.
Liberty was able to build its lead by shooting 71 percent from the floor during the
second half. All 11 Lady Flames scored,
paced by Moriah Frazee’s 15 tallies.
