Sussex County Community College One College Hill Road Newton, NJ 07860 For more information, contact: The Counseling and Advising Center 973.300.2207 CREDITS WHILE ATTENDING HIGH SCHOOL Eligibility The Jump Start program is available to high school juniors or seniors who have an overall B average or higher and demonstrate English proficiency and/or math proficiency through SAT or College Placement Test (Accuplacer) scores. Students must meet placement requirements in the following areas: ■ Critical Reading (SAT of 540 or higher), or appropriate Accuplacer scores in reading and writing. The Accuplacer tests may be retaken only once. ■ Mathematics (SAT of 530 or higher), or appropriate Accuplacer scores in basic math and algebra. The Accuplacer tests may be retaken only once. ■ Additional testing is required in College-Level Math (CLM) for pre-calculus,calculus and physics. The CLM test may be retaken only once. ■ Be recommended by his/her high school Guidance Counselor ■ Have parent/guardian permission to participate Resources to help students prepare for the Accuplacer tests are available online: sussex.edu/academics/testing/placement How do I apply? Benefits Contact your high school guidance counselor to discuss your eligibility and to obtain a Jump Start information packet. If you are a homeschooled student, between the ages of 16 and 18, you are also eligible. You may obtain an information packet by contacting SCCC’s Counseling & Advising Center (973) 300–2207. High school students who earn college credits through Jump Start can: ■ Begin preparing for their college education or career. ■ Increase their education options. ■ Enhance their opportunities for challenging and beneficial work. Complete an Application for Admissions on SCCC’s website sussex.edu/admissions. Select Jump Start when asked your admissions status. Students who successfully complete course work taken through Jump Start will have earned credits documented on a regular SCCC transcript. These credits can either be applied to an SCCC degree program or transferred to other colleges and universities across the nation per their guidelines. Determine if your SAT scores are adequate to exempt you from taking SCCC’s Placement Test (Accuplacer) see Eligibility. If Placement Testing is required, you can locate testing dates/ times, as well as test preparation resources, on sussex.edu/testing. Complete and return all forms found in the Jump Start packet, along with a copy of your SAT scores (if you are exempt from taking the Placement Test). Once forms have been returned, and Placement Testing completed, call Kathi Gallichio in the Counseling & Advising Center to make an appointment to register. Many factors affect the decision to accept transfer credit, including the grade the student earned in the course. Other Information: ■ If you are taking this course to satisfy a high school requirement please be sure to have the course content reviewed and approved by your high school. ■ Online courses are not Jump Start eligible ■ Once a student has graduated from high school, they are no longer eligible for Jump Start.
