Registration for 10th – 12th graders For the 2015-2016 School Year 1 Registration Process Students will register for classes with counselors through Social Studies classes **All cards must be complete (14 classes and three electives listed in order of preference) and signed by parent/guardian 2 Registration Card Due Dates 11th Grade 10th Grade 9th Grade February 4 ‐ 6 February 11 ‐ 13 February 18 – 20 3 Registration Directions • Make sure you have signed up for 14 classes (seven per semester) • 14 classes should include both academic and elective classes • Include elective choices in order of preference 4 Must be filled In completely! Three Electives in order of preference 5 Recommendations • Teacher recommendations are indicated on registration form • If you would like to be placed in a different level, speak with your current teacher and have them initial any changes • Please attach a signed parent note to the registration card 6 Graduation Requirements SUBJECT MINIMUM # OF CREDITS English 4 Social Studies 3 • US History •NSL Government •Modern World History Science 3 •Biology •Physical Science Mathematics 4 •Algebra •Geometry Physical Education 1 Health .5 (10th grade) Fine Arts 1 Technology 1 7 Graduation Requirements Program Completer Options 2 credits of world language or 2 credits of advanced technology or 4 credits of a career development program 8 Graduation Requirements Students must earn a minimum of 22 credits 75 Student Service Learning Hours (SSL Hours) Pass Maryland High School Assessments (HSA): •Algebra •Biology •English • NSL 9 Health Class – 10th Grade • For rising 10th grade only • Health is a semester (0.5 credit) classes, therefore, must be paired with another 0.5 credit class, e.g., PE or art class • Summer school options: – Online Health class – Registration opens in early February – MCPS Summer School – Registration opens in March/April 10 College and Career Research (CCRD) • For students who wish to participate in the CCRD program, you must: - Enroll in the CCRD class in 11th grade – Enroll in the 12th grade Career Seminar AND in triple period Site Based Work Experience both semesters 11 Internships • • • • For rising seniors only Contact Ms. Colleen Kelly for an application Register for a full year schedule If the internship is approved, your schedule will be modified to include your internship • Some colleges like internships, some do not! – Check with your prospective colleges 12 MC Dual Enrollment • • • • • Juniors and Seniors are eligible based on their cumulative GPA Students can begin earning college credit while in high school Grants available for students who qualify Classes available during the day, at night, or online See your counselor if you are interested 13 Reminders • Complete Registration card in PENCIL • Make sure you have it SIGNED before turning it in • Bring your completed card with you when you meet with your counselor 14 Questions? 15
