Text Required: None - There will be numerous handouts. [if you wish to purchase a text for reference,
any Intro to Analysis text will do]
Topics: The mathematical material to be covered includes (in this order) sets, the Real number line,
inequalities, sequences, limits, continuity, differentiability, and integration. The most important ability the
student must demonstrate is the ability to understand, do, and present proofs. Most of the grade in the
course will be based on proofs. Due to the “inquiry and open forum” nature of the course presentation, a
specific course outline will not be provided.
Grades: HW and Quizzes (together) 30%. Exams 40% two exams. Participation 10%. Final 20% on the
date announced; not cumulative. No plus/minus grades
Final Grades will be determined by:

90 - 100 is an A
•
80 - 89 is a B
•
70 - 79 is a C
•
60 - 69 is a D
•
any grade below 60 is an F
This is a difficult course & will take a lot of your time.
a) Much of what I say and the material of classroom handouts will not be in the book. You need to participate, present, and keep good notes. Keep in mind that 10 points of your final grade will be determined by your participation in the class beyond simply showing up. If you miss classes, you need obtain missed handouts and notes.
b) Homework is important to your grade: you need to take it seriously. Your homework will be
included within the course handouts.

HOMEWORK WILL PERIODICALLY BE ASSIGNED AS NECESSARY BASED ON CLASS PERFORMANCE, PROGRESS, AND PRESENTATIONS.
