Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are offering options for summer school classes to incoming 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
Montgomery County Public School students in Grades 6–8 are expected to be proficient in English/reading and mathematics. In
order to bolster student success, Montgomery County Public Schools is offering summer programs at each middle school to
provide extended instructional time for students who want to strengthen their skill base and enhance their content knowledge
of curriculum. The extended year program will provide reading or mathematics instruction for students who have not been
successful with MCPS English/reading or mathematics curriculum. Classes will consist of a review of concepts from previous
years’ curricula and a preview of the curriculum students will experience in the 2016-17 school year. Rocky Hill MS will offer the
following classes:
Support Reading
$95
___ For incoming 6th graders
___ For incoming 7th and 8th graders
Support Mathematics $95

program, and transportation services will be available for those students eligible for bus transportation during the regular school
year. Buses will follow routes similar to activity bus routes, but specific stops are arranged and published in June. . There
will be a maximum of 20 students in a class. If 12 students do not register for a class by June 13, 2016, then that class will be
cancelled and your registration fee will be refunded. Students will be registered on a first come, first served basis. Send in
your forms as soon as possible!
To obtain maximum benefit from this program, your child needs to be present every day. Please take this into consideration if
your child already has other commitments that will conflict with this program.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Rocky Hill Middle School will be offering an extended year program called Focus on Mathematics. These classes are
designed for students who, with additional mathematics instruction, will be able to maximize their potential to be
successful in an Algebra class next school year.
Students will receive instruction on content that is essential to future success in algebra. However, completion of a Focus
on Mathematics course does not mean your child will automatically be enrolled in an above-level class in the fall.
Participants will receive support to increase skills for success in whichever mathematics class they are enrolled for the
2016-17 school year. Emphasis will be on enabling students to make the transition in thinking from concrete to abstract
experiences, using a variety of modes of learning to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
