Algebra 1
A (0.5 credit): T & Th. 6/28 – 7/14/16
B: (0.5 credit) T & Th. 7/19 – 8/4/16
Algebra 1 is designed to analyze and model real-world
phenomena. Exploration of linear, exponential, and quadratic
functions forms the foundation of the course. Key
characteristics and representations of functions--graphic,
numeric, symbolic, and verbal--are analyzed and
compared. Students develop fluency in solving equations
and inequalities. One- and two-variable data sets are
interpreted using mathematical models
Career Readiness
A (0.5 credit): T & Th. 6/28 – 7/14/16
B: (0.5 credit) T & Th. 7/19 – 8/4/16
Students research current career information for successful
career planning and management, develop self awareness,
career awareness, communication and work-related
knowledge and skill sets.
Foundations of Leadership
(0.5 Credit) T & Th. 7/19 – 8/4/16
This look into student leadership provides students with experiences in
leadership training. Students build skills in communications,
negotiations, organizational development, and activity design and
execution. Students study the internal workings of the SGA system and
its relationship to the school and school community
Richard Montgomery High School Summer Programs
Geometry & Honors Geometry
A (0.5 credit): T & Th. 6/28 – 7/14/16
B: (0.5 credit) T & Th. 7/19 – 8/4/16
Students explore geometric situations and deepen their
understanding of geometric relationships, progressing toward
formal mathematical arguments. Instruction at this level will
focus on the understanding and application of congruence as
a basis for developing formal proofs; the relationships among
similarity, trigonometry and triangles; the relationships
between two- and three-dimensional objects and their
measurements; exploration of geometric descriptions and
equations for conic sections; and application of geometric
concepts in modeling situations.
Honors Health
(0.5 credit): T & Th. 6/28 – 7/14/16
(0.5 credit) T & Th. 7/19 – 8/4/16
Students learn factual health information in the
following content areas: mental and emotional health;
alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs; personal and
consumer health; family life and human sexuality;
safety and injury prevention; and disease prevention
and control. Students develop lifelong health skills such
as accessing information, advocacy, analyzing
influences, communication skills, conflict resolution,
decision making, goal setting, practicing healthful
behaviors, refusal skills and stress management
throughout the course. Although this course is required
for graduation, parental permission must be specifically
provided for students under the age of 18 to participate
in the family life and human sexuality and disease

Philosophy in Film
(0.5 credit): T, W & Th. 7/19 – 8/4/16
This course will provide an introduction to Western
philosophy through excerpts from works by key thinkers
such as Plato, Descartes, and Locke and will supplement
our understanding of their ideas with exploration of films
that illustrate the philosophies we will study. Films may
include The Emperor’s Club, Inherit the Wind, Groundhog
Day, Horton Hears a Who!, Crimes and Misdemeanors,
Monty Python and the Holy Grail and selected scenes from
other films, all rated PG-13 or below. Through philosophy and film, we will investigate key
questions about the human experience: Why do we believe what we believe? How do we know
the truth? What is the nature of good and evil? What is the relationship between the individual
in society and government? What gives life meaning? Students will learn terminology used in
the study of philosophy and film analysis, examine written and visual texts through discussion
and writing, and consider the relationship between written philosophy and its cinematic
representation.
Tech Innovations
(0.5 credit): T & Th. 7/5 – 7/21/16
This course is for students interested in exploring physical, informational, and bio -related
technologies. Students are involved in research and exploration of product design by
experimenting and collecting data. Students then use tools, machines, and computer systems to
problem solve, design, and construct prototypes of innovative solutions to everyday problems.
