General PTA Meeting, December 16th, 2014

Nancy called the meeting to order at 7:42 PM. Introductions were made.
November Minutes: Lori made a motion to approve. Andre seconded. All in favor.
Treasurer’s Report: Lori presented about the general budget and post prom budget. For post
prom, donations can be made online or via check anytime during the year. Post Prom will earn
all money from winter sporting events concessions. Chaperones will be needed for Post Prom.
No questions.
SGA Report: SGA President Nathan presented. The ‘No Shave November’ with staff and
students raised $700.00 for American Cancer Society. RM collected 150 toys for The City of
Rockville Holiday Drive. This week is Spirit Week. There will be a PEP Rally at 1:30 on Friday.
The Male Bombs will perform. Parents are invited. There will be an upcoming Regional/Junior
Student Council Meeting with all MCPS high schools at RM. Dr. Starr will be present.
Potentially, there may be a winter dance.
Staff Grants: There were 13 applications from teachers. All were accepted. The PTSA gave
$4,000 to teachers with extra funds provided by the IB Magnate Foundation.
Staff: A survey was sent out by the PTSA to staff as to how the PTSA can help. Great
suggestions were received. Local restaurants donated gift cards to the PTSA which were raffled
off to the staff during a meeting. This was very well received.
Fleet Street: Paula presented. We are opposed to the Fleet Street extension. The RM
Community and SGA President, Nathan, testified at the City Council Meeting on December 8 th.
To date, 148 people have signed the petition.
Career Day: This will be February 27th of which is an early release day. There will be one
speaker per room. Each student will have six different speakers as the students go through
their daily rotation.
Principal’s Report: He thanked the PTSA for the staff gift cards.
He will send a letter before the winter break via listserv to frame and solicit speakers for Career
Day. Student Ambassadors will escort the professionals to their room. A template will be given
to each speaker. Main Street will be set up during lunch for all speakers.
On December 1st, the County Council had an inauguration at RM.
