PTSA President, Nancy Downing, welcome, call to order, declaration of quorum and introductions.
Call for approval of minutes from November 17th, 2015. Seconded and approved.

Mr. Monteleone is in New Orleans for an IB Conference
●
Thanks Mr. Coruga for the Spanish session
●
Common Ground Assembly on Dec 23rd, 2015. Students perform - sing, dance, martial arts. Not open
to parents. 3 assemblies in the afternoon.

Safe or sorry Campaign - prom safety program done every 2 years. Representative from police and
trauma center at Shady Grove. April 22nd, 2016 for 11th and 12th graders.

Thank Cindy Griffiths for getting the U-turn signs done. Getting the lane delineators in the Spring.
●
Budget process: No idea how it impacts the school till spring. Please help lobby with this budget.
Enrollment in MCPS has gone up 12% or 1600 students and staffing has gone down 3%. Shift in
demographics - more IEP and ESOL needs but no budget to support these needs. Need to contact
state representatives, county council members, and school board to tell them no more budget cuts.
Nancy: Need individuals to write to the representatives. Governor has released the funds to three
counties who have voted for him and not to the ones who did not. Mr. Garrick: draft an email and
individuals send out to send a message that the RM community cares.

● Successful book collection.
Career Day
● Feb 26th - looking for variety/unconventional occupations
● Need new speakers - more humanities, arts, and small business.
● One speaker in each classroom ½ day - speaker only talks for 20 minutes. Anecdotes about the
career. All students went through their regular schedule and saw 6 different speakers. Class size is
30 largest or 15 smallest. Try to pair speakers with the subject
● General expo on Main Street for the students to visit other speakers who could stay.
Outreach
● Student focus groups - sat in on one student session to get feedback on how to do better in school and
how they are treated from ESOL students.
● Black History Month - try to do some activity in Feb
Old Business
● Staff Raffle Donation - Thank you. Incredible generosity in a wide variety.
New Business
● Funding Education - task force
● Parent Representative for School Improvement Plan meeting on February 16, 2016 @ 10:25a will
review results from 1st semester and make plans. Have 2 representatives and can use more. contact
Nancy if you want to volunteer.
● New Grocery Funds Chair - get in touch with stores to find out about their programs and prints out
forms.
