Dear Parent or Guardian,
A very important aspect of my high school education is learning about intellectual
integrity and intellectual property. I have viewed a PowerPoint presentation on
intellectual integrity and have discussed intellectual honesty, cheating, and plagiarism
with my English teacher and my peers. If you would like to view the PowerPoint
presentation I saw, it is available on the media center’s site on Edline. You may also ask
the media specialist to provide you with a CD of the PowerPoint presentation. As part of
the instruction, I will be required to submit a copy of each English paper, and papers for
other subjects, to Turnitin.com. The Web site checks my paper against Wikipedia,
articles, books, and information found on Web sites and all other papers turned in to
Turnitin.com. If my paper contains a match to any online source or submitted paper,
Turnitin.com provides a hyperlink to the section of the Web site or paper.
I have learned that if anyone helps me write a paper, I must cite him or her as a source. I
also understand the Modern Language Association format of parenthetical citation and
will use it in my paper.
Most importantly, as per school and county policy, I understand that if I plagiarize or
exhibit intellectual dishonesty in any portion of a paper, you will be contacted, and I
will earn a failing grade for the paper, which will significantly lower my marking
period grade. In addition, a report will be placed in my record.
