Transcript & Recommendation Procedures for Students and Parents Using Family Connections (Naviance) A. How to BEGIN: 1. Log into your Naviance Family Connections account. 2. Watch the Video on the home page “How to match your Common App Account” 3. ALL students must make a common app account, regardless what college they will be applying to. 4. Follow the steps to sign the FERPA on the common application so they can match their Naviance account with their common application account. Remember the emails must be the same. 5. You MUST WAIVE your right on the FERPA, or your teacher is not obligated to send a letter on your behalf, and some colleges may disregard any recommendation submitted on your behalf. 5. B. Generating Your List of Colleges in Naviance‐ 1. Click the “Colleges” tab look under “my Colleges” and select “Colleges I’m thinking about” 2. Click “Add to List” and use the drop down box to select Your Interest (Low, Medium, High, and First Choice) If you are not sure do not select anything. Then select the colleges you are considering. 3. Make sure you select the correct name and location for the schools on this list. 4. Look for the application type and due dates for each college that you will be applying to. This is helpful information when you make your request. C. How To Request TRANSCRIPTS FOR ALL COLLEGES. 1. After matching your common application with Naviance on the “Colleges I’m Applying to section on Naviance you can now request a transcript. You will see a screen that shows you have successfully matched your common application account. BELOW IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AFTER THEY MATCHED!! STUDENTS NEED TO MAKE THEIR REQUEST AT LEAST 10 DAYS IN ADVANCE colleges I'm applying to

+ add to this list | request transcripts | view detailed status | compare me 2. You will then select “request transcripts” 3. The next screen will ask you to check off “TYPE” use the drop down list to choose how you will be applying (Regular, Early Decision, Early Action, etc..) THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE THIS WILL INDICATE THE CORRECT DATE! 4. The next box you will click “College” and Click Lookup. You select the correct name for your school for each college you are ready to request a transcript for. 5. After selecting everything you will scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Request Transcripts”. 6. To verify you have selected everything correctly you can check this on the “Colleges I’m Applying To” tab. 7. Look for “Applying via the Common App? If you see the word “UNKNOWN” listed there you will click the word “UNKNOWN” and use the dropdown box and select YES‐OR NO if you will be using the common application. You will SKIP this step if the college is Common App Exclusive or does not use the common app. (like UMD) D. PAYING TRANSCRIPT FEES 1. If you did not pay for your transcripts in homeroom you will need to do this online through the Wootton online store. If not you will be issued an obligation. 2. The transcript fee for 2015 will be a flat fee of $10.00. 3. If you need a transcript for a scholarship or NCAA or any other reason you must see Ms. Nicholas in Room 107, and pay the fee in their office. E How to Use Naviance To Request Teacher and Counselor Recommendations 1. Make sure you ask—IN PERSON‐‐the recommendation writer if they will write a recommendation on your behalf. Don’t just assume! A recommendation will not be sent unless this face‐to‐face request to the teacher has been made. 2. MAKE SURE YOU RESEARCH IF THE COLLEGE REQUIRES TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS AND HOW MANY ARE REQUIRED. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR EACH COLLEGE! 3. Log in to your Naviance Family Connections Account. 4. Click on the “Colleges” tab 5. Click on “Colleges I’m Applying To” 6. Below the list of colleges you have requested transcripts for, scroll down and look for the title, “Teacher Recommendations.” 7. Click “add/cancel requests” (add/cancel requests). A drop down box will appear where you will select the name of the teacher. Click the correct name. You will also see another box titled “Personal note to teacher.” You will list the name of the college and the due date for each school. ALWAYS THANK YOUR TEACHER!!!! 8. Send a teacher recommendation request to a teacher for each college you are applying to. After entering the names and thank you note, you will scroll to the bottom to click the box “Update Requests.” 9. After you enter this information you will see a confirmation box with your request.
