The above example shows a failure with clock 1 (clock module A).
Note
Clock module A refers to clock 1 and clock module B refers to clock 2.
Note
The clock module on a Cisco 7609 router or on a Catalyst 6509-NEBS-A switch contains dual
redundant clocks (clock 1 and clock 2) on one module.
Replacing the Clock Module
Note
Warning
You must remove all power from the Cisco 7600 series router before replacing the clock module.
This unit might have more than one power supply connection. All connections must be removed to
de-energize the unit.
The clock module is installed as follows:
•
Behind power supply 1 (the lower power supply) on the Cisco 7603 router or Catalyst 6503 switch
(see Figure 1)
•
Behind power supply 1 (the lower power supply) on the Cisco 7604 router or Catalyst 6504 switch
(see Figure 2)
•
Behind power supply 2 (the upper power supply) for the Cisco 7606 router (see Figure 3)
•
At the rear of the cabinet (the upper half) on the Cisco 7609 router or Catalyst 6509-NEBS-A switch
(see Figure 4)

Cisco 7604 router and Catalyst 6504 switch, and Figure 3 for the Cisco 7606 router.
Note
Note the position of the clock module before you remove it from the chassis because you
must install the new clock module in the same position.
Step 3
Remove the three securing screws that secure the clock module.
Step 4
Carefully lift and remove the clock module, placing it on an antistatic mat or foam.
Step 5
Remove the new clock module from the antistatic bag.
Step 6
Hold the clock module with the plug away from you.
Step 7
Carefully press the clock module onto the connector.
Step 8
Replace the three securing screws.
Step 9
Install the power supply. (Refer to Chapter 5, “Removal and Replacement Procedures,” in the Cisco
7600 Series Router Installation Guide, or refer to Chapter 4, “Removal and Replacement Procedures,”
in the Catalyst 6500 Series Switches Installation Guide.)
