Dear Parents and Guardians,
SSIMS PTSA welcomes you to Silver Spring International Middle School. PTSA is a group of
parents and guardians like you who advocate for the education and wellbeing of students. We
plan enrichment activities for students, provide support to teachers and create a welcoming
community for parents. The best way to support our mission is to become a member. Dues
are only $5 per adult (parent, grandparent, guardian or teacher) and students are free.
Why join? Children whose families are involved at school tend to do better academically and
like school more. Your involvement creates a sense of community and a valuable support
network for students. We’re asking everyone to contribute just three hours to SSI this year.
Can you prepare a side dish for the staff luncheon August 26th? Greet parents at the PTSA
table at Back to School Night? Provide translation in a second language? These are a few of the
many small ways parents and students make our school a great place to be. Attend the
meeting on Tuesday, September 8 at 7:30pm in the Media Center to learn more.
PTSA meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the
month. Spanish interpretation will be provided.
Babysitting will be available for potty-trained children.
PTSA planning meetings are the fourth Thursday. All
meetings are open to everyone.

Estimados Padres y Tutores,
La Asociación de Padres, Maestros y Estudiantes (PTSA, por sus siglas en inglés) le da una
bienvenida a la Escuela Media Silver Spring International (SSIMS o SSI, por sus siglas en
inglés). La PTSA es un grupo de padres y tutores como usted quienes abogan por la educación
y bienestar de los estudiantes. Planificamos actividades de enriquecimiento para los
estudiantes, proveemos apoyo a los maestros y creamos una comunidad acogedora para los
padres. La mejor manera de apoyar a nuestra misión es hacerse miembro/a. La cuota (anual)
es sólo $5 por adulto (padres, abuelos, tutores o maestros) y gratis para los estudiantes.
¿Por qué unirse? Cuando las familias están involucradas en la escuela, ésta suele a gustar más a
los niños, quienes también suelen a rendir mejor académicamente. Su involucramiento crea
un sentido de comunidad y una red de apoyo valiosa para los estudiantes. Pedimos que cada
quien contribuya sólo tres horas a SSI este año escolar. ¿Puede preparar un plato para el
almuerzo para los maestros el 26 de agosto? ¿Saluda a los padres en la mesa de PTSA en
Regreso a la Escuela? ¿Actuar como intérprete en una reunión de la PTSA? Estos son ejemplos
de las varias maneras sencillas de que los padres y estudiantes hacen que nuestra escuela sea
un lugar maravilloso. Asista a la reunión el Martes, 8 de septiembre, a las 7:30pm en la
biblioteca de la escuela (Media Center) para aprender más.
Las reuniones de la PTSA se llevan a cabo el
segundo martes de cada mes. Un intérprete de
español estará disponible. Cuidado infantil estará
disponible para los niños que son entrenados para
ir al baño. Las reuniones de planificación se llevan a
cabo el cuarto jueves del mes. Todas las reuniones
están abiertas a todos.

can show your child that you care about their education. We invite every family to join the PTSA and attend
our meetings and events at SSIMS this year. The PTSA offers you the opportunity to connect with other
parents, learn about what is happening at SSIMS, and have a strong and united voice in your child’s
education. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our children and our community!
Consider making a tax deductible DONATION. Direct Appeal is the main
source of funds for the SSIMS PTSA operating budget. We ask each family to contribute to the PTSA to
support our programs and minimize the need for other fundraising – the PTSA has opted for Direct
Donations rather than asking you and your children to sell stuff to raise funds.
 100% of your donation is fully tax deductible and directly benefits SSI students.
