Attendance All students must attend school on April 29th. All students attending prom must attend the Prom Promise assembly on April 29th. Students may submit permission slips with parent signatures granting early release from school after 4th period. Hotel Staff at the hotel will not rent rooms to or hand keys to anyone under the age of 21 on April 29th. Any student who exits the prom will not be allowed re-admittance. Contact: Ellen Terry [email protected] The Short Road to Graduation 2016 GRADUATION DAY Friday, June 3, 2016 10:00 a.m. Graduation Speaker: Dr. Damien Robinson Damien Robinson is a Speaker, Consultant and Researcher who has more than 10 years of experience working in education as a director, teacher, counselor and academic coach. He has provided training and consultation to educators throughout the country that focus on increasing student achievement and hope levels. As an ACES Academic Coach he has been instrumental in developing and implementing Montgomery County’s’ flagship academic support program, Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success (ACES). Prior to becoming an ACES Academic Coach, Dr. Robinson held leadership positions with Orchard School District and the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program. He has successfully trained 300+ educators committed to closing the “opportunity gap” for students of color. Through the use of his research and mentoring strategies, he has sent over 250 students to college. Dr. Robinson has over 5 years of experience with evaluating programs geared toward increasing student achievement. He has over 9 years of public speaking experience. Dr. Robinson’s passion is helping educators find efficient, productive and caring ways to work with young people who have the potential to be successful and contributing members of society. A Few Final Items to Take Care of Before The Big Day Graduation Package Must be Paid !!! $80 covers the cost of Constitution Hall, programs, tickets, senior picnic, cap and gown, senior t-shirt, and other costs that the class must cover. Unpaid Senior Dues are now OBLIGATIONS. Obligations can be paid today in the lobby, online, or in the financial office during regular school hours. Obligations: Before any senior will be permitted to graduate or to participate in a senior activity, including rehearsal, ALL obligations must be satisfied. No personal checks will be accepted after May 1. Obligations include: • Financial obligations • SSL hours • Completion of Maryland State Senior Survey (completed in English classes online) Student Service Learning All SSL hours must be completed by April 8th Criteria for SSL hours are… • preapproved, • nonprofit, • tax exempt organization, and • addresses a real need in the community! SSL opportunities are posted on www.mcpsssl.org click on the link “SSL Community Opportunities.” Check with Mr. Irvin if you have any questions. Student Service Learning Certificate of Meritorious Service. Seniors who have documented 260 or more SSL hours by the first Friday in April will be awarded a Certificate of Meritorious Service. All documentation must be submitted no later than APRIL 8 to qualify. This special honor will be included in the graduation program. SSL questions? Contact Ms.Lefner. May 27-June 1 Students should be sure that they do not have any outstanding obligations. These must be taken care of before rehearsal on June 2. Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal Thursday, June 2 7:30 am - 11:30 am A light breakfast will be provided. Senior Picnic immediately following rehearsal. About Graduation What You Need To Know For The BIG DAY!! Students should arrive at DAR no later than 9:00 am on graduation day. The doors to DAR will be closed at 9:45am, right before the students process into the hall and then reopen after the processional. Transportation Transportation is not provided for the graduates. • Bus Transportation: – Tickets for round trip bus transportation from SVHS to Constitution Hall will be sold on a first come, first served basis. The tickets will be $25.00 per person and they are non-refundable. – There is ONLY ONE BUS!!! • Complete and return the form found in this packet. Contact person: Mara Anderson Tickets to get into Constitution Hall: All parents and guests must have tickets. Graduates will receive 6 tickets on June 2, 2016 at the end of graduation rehearsal. Extra tickets will be available by advanced written request only. No graduate will be given more than a total of 12 tickets. Please do not request more tickets than you need. If you do not need all 6 tickets, please return extra tickets to Mrs. Wolfe. Handicapped Accommodations • Handicapped seating is available beginning at 9:00am. (One guest can be seated nearby as needed). All individuals in need of these accommodations must enter from the D Street entrance (boys’ side). • An interpreter for the hearing impaired or foreign language can be provided. Please complete the form in the Parent Survey and return it to Mrs. Wolfe prior to the due date. • NOTE: We are able to make other accommodations/arrangements as needed but concerns should be conveyed to Mrs. Wolfe no later than April 22, 2016! Capturing the Moment • Videography: – A DVD of graduation is available for purchase for $16. Complete and return the form found in your packet to Ms. McLeod or Ms. Rizkallah. – Guests may only take pictures at their seats. – PLEASE NOTE: Tripods will not be permitted. Academic Attire – DO NOT IRON GOWNS!!!
