Principal's Weekly Message 4/18/16

Principal’s Message - Week of April 18-22
Please note that it is not my intent to be all-inclusive in this message. There are far too many school
events happening every day for me to mention them all. Please continue to read our Eagles Bulletin and
Twitter feed for important announcements and visit our school homepage regularly for updates. Have a
great week.

It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the Adaptive PE Team of Mr. Brady Markel and
Ms. Jessica Patterson has been selected as a winner for an Outstanding Program award given by
the MCCPTA Special Education Committee for the 2015-2016 school year. They have been
recognized for providing services and/or advocacy efforts that directly relate to the mission of
this committee. Mr. Markel and Ms. Patterson will be honored at the MCCPTA Annual
Recognition ceremony on Monday, May 9, 2016.
SVHS Senior Jackson Douglas has been selected to receive the Community Leader Award by the
Montgomery County Alliance of Black School Educators. MCABSE is excited for the opportunity
to honor the best and brightest African American High School Seniors across Montgomery
County Public Schools. Jackson will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.
In Case you missed this last week, here is a note about the future of Open Lunch at SVHS!
•
I have had a chance to speak with parent groups several times throughout the year about this
topic. I have also spoken with focus groups of students and provided all students in the school
an opportunity to give feedback and to provide input on a number of different options proposed
for the coming school year. Similarly, our teaching staff was asked to weigh in on the subject
through a staff survey. Most energy seems to be around making Open Lunch a senior privilege. I
am asking anyone who has a strong opinion on this suggestion to email me at
[email protected] by the end of this week. A final decision will be announced soon
after.
Attention parents of seniors!
