Principal’s Message - Week of May 2 – May 6 Marc J. Cohen, Ed. D. Please note that it is not my intent to be all-inclusive in this message. There are far too many school events happening every day for me to mention them all. Please continue to read our Eagles Bulletin and Twitter feed for important announcements and visit our school homepage regularly for updates. Have a great week. If you think this is something your child would enjoy, we hope you will share this information. May is an exciting month at SVHS for many reasons, not the least of which is that this is the month we begin recognizing our students for their outstanding achievements. First up for this season: Monday, May 2nd the Spanish Honor Society will hold their annual induction ceremony. On Wednesday, May 4th, several SVHS students will be honored at the 7th Annual MCABSE Distinguished African American Scholars and Community Leaders Awards Ceremony. And on Thursday, May 5th, the Thespian Honor Society will welcome its newest members. Battle of the Bands – One of our outstanding IB students has organized this event as part of a CAS project to raise money for the American Anxiety and Depression Society. We hope you will consider joining us on Friday, May 6th, for an evening of live music starting at 7 pm in the auditorium. Visiting Author – Elle Cosimano, author of Nearly Gone, Nearly Found, and Holding Smoke will be visiting Seneca Valley to hold a writer’s workshop with students on Thursday, May 12th. Annual Student Art Show – Opening Night is Thursday, May 12th in the Media Center starting at 5 pm. After visiting the Art Show, we hope you will then consider joining us in the auditorium for the Spring Choral Concert starting at 7 pm. College Signing Day – During lunch on Friday, May 13th, we will be honoring our student athletes who have accepted scholarships to study and play their sport of choice at the college level. If you have any questions, please contact our Athletic Director, Mr. Jesse Irvin. Updated 5/2/2016 Athletics Schedule – Looking for dates and start times or the latest stats on Seneca Valley sporting events? Don’t forget to visit http://www.svhsathletics.com/. Lunch at SVHS in 2016-2017: • Effective the first day of school in the 2016-2017 school year, lunch at SVHS will be closed for all students who are not designated as 12th graders. When a student reaches 12th grade status, they may request permission to participate in open lunch. This will require a parent permission slip. Students who are given permission will receive an alternate student ID card that must be shown when students leave and return from lunch. The logistics required for students to take advantage of what will now be a senior privilege will be explained to students in my summer welcome back letter and at our opening class meeting. As always, please don’t hesitate to call me or any member of my administrative team if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support of Seneca Valley.
