Rosa M. Parks Middle School Extended Year Summer Program 2016 At Rosa M. Parks Middle School we provide opportunities for every child to be successful. This summer we will offer classes to strengthen students’ skills and performance in reading and math. These classes are designed to give students the boost they need to be successful. These support classes will consist of a review of content, concepts, and skills from the previous year, as well as a preview of the curriculum students will experience in the 2016-17 school year. All course offerings listed are pending budget approval. All classes that do not have a minimum of 12 students by June 13th will be cancelled. Dates: July 5th —July 29th (4 week program) Times: 7:45—11:30 a.m. Location: Rosa Parks Middle School Cost: $95.00 (tuition waivers for qualified families) Transportation: Buses will be available for Rosa Parks’ students. (T hese buses follow the activity bus routes that run during the school year) Class Size: 12-20 students Classes offered: Support for Reading 6/7- The program will provide reading instruction for students who could benefit from additional practice with English/Reading curriculum and need additional support to access on-grade-level indicators. The classes will incorporate writing, listening, reading fluency and summer reading assignments. *For incoming 6th & 7th graders Support for 6th Grade Math- Support for 6th grade math emphasizes statistics and data, fractions, decimals, ratios, and percents, and measurement. The program reviews content from elementary math curriculum and previews some indicators from the curriculum. Conceptual development of material and on-level concepts, content, and processes is addressed as students are taught concrete understanding through manipulatives, transitioning to pictorial representation, to abstract understanding through paper/pencil problems. *For incoming 6th graders Support for 7th Grade Math- Support for 7th grade math emphasizes content from the first two units of 7th grade math, including displaying and interpreting data, exponents, integers, expressions, equations and inequalities. The program reviews content from previous math curricula and previews some indicators from the curriculum. Conceptual development of material and on-level concepts, content, and processes is addressed as students are taught concrete understanding through manipulatives, transitioning to pictorial representation, to abstract understanding through paper/pencil problems. *For incoming 7th graders Farquhar M.S Will be offering: Farquhar M.S. will be offering their classes at Rosa Parks Middle School this summer. RPMS students entering 8th grade this fall may register for the Algebra Prep course or the Reading 7/8 class.
