Dear Rocky Hill Parents and Guardians:
I want to share with you information about an event that occurred today September 3, 2015.
Earlier today, we were notified by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) that due to an
incident in the community, we should go into a Public Shelter Safety Alert. I was in contact with
school system security and was informed that there was no threat to our students or staff, although as a
precaution, we did move into a Shelter Safety Alert. A Shelter provides that classroom instruction
continues as normal, however we limited movement throughout the hallways and between portable
classrooms. In addition, our security liaison from Montgomery County Public Schools was available
to provide guidance and to keep us up-to-date on the incident. The Shelter was lifted at approximately
11:30 a.m. today.
We extended period three during our second block due to the safety procedures. Instruction continued
in all classrooms. The physical education classes were already inside the gym area so they did not
need to be relocated. Students in portables were not allowed to exit the portable from 10:14am until
11:10am. After consulting with the MCPD and the Department of School Safety and Security, each
classroom was brought into the school and escorted via security and administration. Classroom
instruction will continue throughout the day; however, to err on the side of caution for our staff and
students, for the remainder of the day portable classes will remain in the main building in alternate
locations.
Once again, our students and staff are safe at Rocky Hill Middle School and we look forward to a
smooth student dismissal. Thank you for your support as we work together to maintain a safe
environment for all students and staff. If you have any questions or concerns in regards to this
incident, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 301-353-8282
Sincerely,
Dr. Cynthia Eldridge
