Greetings Rocky Hill Family!!!

Letter
This summer the Parent Teacher
Association
(PTA) Board of Directors worked
to create a mission statement that reflects the diversity, strength, and vitality of
the Wildcat Family. We are committed to upholding this Mission Statement
and are dedicating this year to service on behalf of our Rocky Hill Middle
School (RHMS) students, families and the greater community as we work
collaboratively on “Changing Lives – One Roar at a Time”. The possibilities
are endless and we have many wonderful things planned for the year.
I encourage all parents, guardians and staff members to join the PTA. As a
PTA member, you become a part of a distinguished group of parents, staff
members and community neighbors who advocate on behalf of the Wildcats of
RHMS. Our collective voices impact school policies, and speak loudly at the
county, state and national level. In addition to advocacy, your membership
dollars support RHMS academically, socially, and compassionately. Your
membership ensures that the PTA can provide educational enrichment for all of
our Wildcats.
This year the RHMS, in conjunction with the PTA, launched an initiative
designed to support those families and community members in need called

RHMS Principal’s Message
Dear Rocky Hill Families,
resident’s Letter
I hope you had a restful summer and looking forward to the start of a new school year. I am enthusiastic to
work with our RHMS staff to provide your child high quality learning and social experiences as I enter my
20th year in MCPS, and my third year as the RHMS principal. Our staff is committed to our students and we
value the trust you place in us every day.
On behalf of the entire RHMS staff, I would like to welcome you to the beginning of what is going to be a
wonderful 2015-2016 school year! We welcome our new families and thank our returning families for your
collaboration, support, and involvement last school year. Teachers look forward to meeting you in the
classrooms at our Back to School Night events. Due to the size of our school we are having Back to School
Night on two separate nights, designated by grade level:
Tuesday, September 8 at 7:00 pm (6th grade) and Wednesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm (7th and 8th grade).
We want our parents to stay involved with RHMS! Please make sure you regularly check our RHMS
website and get involved with our RHMS PTA.
RHMS is a Maryland Green School!! Our school has demonstrated a continuous effort to integrate
sustainable best management practices and an environmental education curriculum into our daily operations.
ALL of our updates, weekly electronic handouts and forms are on our website. Please bookmark our

Rocky Hill Middle School PTA Acknowledges National Hispanic Heritage Month
The story of Hispanics in America is the story of America itself. The Hispanic community's values -love of family, a deep and abiding faith, and a strong work ethic -- are America's values.
Hispanics bring together the rich traditions of communities with centuries-old roots in America and
the energy and drive of recent immigrants.
Many have taken great risks to begin a new life in the hopes of achieving a better future for themselves
and their families.
Hispanics have played a vital role in the moments and movements that have shaped our country. They have enriched our
culture and brought creativity and innovation to everything from sports to the sciences and from the arts to our
economy.
Hispanics have served with honor and distinction in every conflict since the Revolutionary War, and they have made
invaluable contributions through their service to our country. They lead corporations and not-for-profits, and social
movements and places of learning. They serve in government at every level from school boards to statehouses and from
city councils to Congress. And for the first time in our Nation's history, a Latina is seated among the nine Justices of the
Supreme Court of the United States.
As Hispanics continue to enrich our Nation's character and shape our common future, they strengthen America's
promise and affirm the narrative of American unity and progress.
To honor the achievements of Hispanics in America, the President issues annually a proclamation designating
September 15 through October 15 as "National Hispanic Heritage Month."
Every year, thousands of Hispanics move to our country looking for better opportunities and a more safe and healthy
future for their families. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated by July of 2007 that the Hispanic population had reached 45
million people representing 15% of the total population and becoming the largest minority group. Census estimates that
by 2050, Hispanics will represent 24% of the total population.
Many Hispanics have succeeded in the entertainment and arts, business, health, education and laws fields, and within
the Government, etc. Recently we had the chance to celebrate the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor as one of the
members of the Supreme Court and celebrate Hilda L. Solis as the new U.S. Secretary of Labor.
According to a recent report from ComScore, Inc., Hispanics also represents 11% of the total U.S. Online audience,
becoming a very important market not only for companies but for the Government as well.
