Parents do not have to make an appointment to meet with teachers as we are using an arenastyle conference setting to allow more parents the opportunity to speak with all their student’s teachers. During arenastyle conferences, parents have the opportunity to meet with individual teachers of their choice for a brief period of time. Parents may take the time to meet with all teachers or simply stop in, to touch base with a teacher or two. Again, no appointments will be required, but you may need to wait in line to meet with one of your child's teachers. Conferences will be limited to 6 minutes per teacher/per family and if th additional time is requested, information will be available on the process to schedule it. 6 th th grade teachers will be located in the Cafeteria and 7/8 grade teachers will be in the Gymnasium. Our PE/Health, Art, Music and specialty teachers will also be in the Gymnasium. There will be maps available with teacher names and locations at the door. We will send reminders and maps out via email the week of conferences for your reference. We encourage our parents to write down a few questions related to their student(s) prior to meeting with your student’s teachers to assist in the discussion. We are also asking for parent flexibility as each teacher will have an assigned dinner break during the conferences. Please note there will be NO conferences on November 12, 2015. SAFETY UPDATES: Afternoon Student Car Rider Line: We appreciate everyone's cooperation with the morning car rider lines. We are still experiencing issues with parents not following our car rider kindness guidelines in the afternoons. We are asking that parents to show kindness in the parking circle and a commitment to safety by following these 3 guidelines: 1. All car riders need to be picked up from the car rider line —not the parking lot or on Brick Haven Way or Little Seneca Pkwy. 2. Please do not drive down the parking lanes, and for safety, do not allow your child to exit the car and walk through the parking lot. 3. Please do not park in the parking lot and have your student walk to your car or you get out and the parent walk them over. There have been a few times where cars have almost hit students and staff in our parking lot. 4. All car riders must be picked up no later than 3:15 pm. Spirit Week is Friday, Oct. 30th Through Nov. 6th Show your support and partic ipate eac h day. Friday is our Pink Out to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Wear all pink to school that day. Tuesday is Pajama Day. Dress comfortable and appropriately in your PJ’s. Rocky Hill Dress code policy applies and if needed students will be asked to change or put on clothes from our PE department. Wednesday is Color by Grade Day. ● If you are in 6th grade wear Blue. ● If you are in 7th grade wear Yellow. ● If you are in 8th grade wear Black and White. Thursday is Talent/ Sports Day. Wear clothing that represents a talent you have such as math club, Minecraft, band or any other talent you have. You can choose to wear a sports jersey or a uniform from any activity you participate in. This could be basketball, soccer, baseball or track. Friday is Hat Day. Wear your favorite hat to school all day . Our goal is to raise money for our science club and our science department. The fundraiser is with an environmentally friendly company called Nature’s Vision. They offer a wide variety of environmentally themed products that are high quality and affordable. In addition, Nature’s Vision will donate a portion of their proceeds to environmental organizations that are dedicated to protecting the rainforest, marine conservation, preserving nature and ensuring a sustainable future for our planet. The fundraiser will start rd th November 3 and will end November 17 . We would be honored if you would allow us to say "thank you" for your service on your special day. We also invite you to speak with our students (if you would like) about what it means, or meant, to serve our country. The school day on November 11th is from 8:1512:30 . We will begin the day with breakfast for you in our Main Gym at 8:00am . There will be a flag raising ceremony at approximately 9:00am , bookended with musical selections by our students. We hope to see all our brave servicemen and women that day! th th Basketball Season: Attention all 7 & 8 grade basketball players… November will be here before you know it and the Basketball season is just around the corner…you know what that means! Basketball tryouts will be here before you know it!! If you are planning to try out, you must have the necessary paperwork turned in to Ms. th Brouillard PRIOR to November 9 . Here are 3 things you need in order to try out: 1) be academically eligible with a minimum of a 2.0 GPA for Quarter 1 ( so keep those grades up!! ); 2) a CURRENT physical form signed and dated by the doctor; and 3) a signed parent permission slip. The physical forms and permission slips can be found on the school website under “Activities” or you can pick them up from the Girls Locker Room. It’s never too soon to get that paperwork in, so see Ms. Brouillard today!! Tryouts begin on th th Tuesday, November 10 for the boys and Tuesday, November 17 for the ladies. Coat Drive : The Leo Club is holding its annual Coat Drive. Please consider donating new or gently used jackets or coats of any size to this amazing cause. This year we will also be collecting gloves and mittens! All items collected will go to area families to help keep them warm this winter. Please drop off any coats or gloves in portable #8 – Mr. th Stevenson’s room. The coat drive ends October 30 ! Food Drive: The SGA and Leo Clubs are sponsoring a food drive. The drive runs from th th October 19 – 30. Drop off boxes can be found on the first floor hallway near the front entrance. Any nonperishable food item would be appreciated. ******************************************************************** October RHMS Highlights Section: Halloween Information : Rocky Hill Middle School does not celebrate Halloween and students should not wear Halloween costumes on October 30. We will have our annual PINK OUT DAY that day so students do have an opportunity to show their spirit to fight cancer! We hope that all students will wear pink and we will have prizes for those students that wear the MOST pink that day.
