SAFETY UPDATES:
Everyone can contribute to a safe and healthy school environment. Often, tips from
parents and students can prevent youth violence, drug and alcohol abuse, gang
involvement and other dangers to the safety of students. MCPS has a confidential
Safe Schools Hotline to report threats, or safety and security violations. You can call
301-517-5995, 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Students who see something
and/or hear something suspicious that they would like to report can Text-a-Tip to
274637 (CRIMES).
Parents are encouraged to learn more about MCPS safety procedures by visiting the
Safety and Security website
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/security/.
Videos on the site explain school security procedures and protocols, including the
difference between a lockdown, shelter in place and evacuation. There’s also
information about cybersecurity, emergency preparedness and much more.

November RHMS Highlights Section:
Parent Conference Day is scheduled for one day only, November 11, 2015, from
1:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Parents do not have to make an appointment to meet with
teachers as we are using an arena-style conference setting to allow more parents
the opportunity to speak with all their student’s teachers. During arena-style
conferences, parents have the opportunity to meet with individual teachers of their
choice for a brief period of time. Parents may take the time to meet with all teachers
or simply stop in, to touch base with a teacher or two. Again, no appointments will
be required, but you may need to wait in line to meet with one of your child's
teachers. Conferences will be limited to 6 minutes per teacher/per family and if
additional time is requested, information will be available on the process to
schedule it. 6th grade teachers will be located in the Cafeteria and 7th/8th grade
teachers will be in the Gymnasium. Our PE/Health, Art, Music and specialty
teachers will also be in the Gymnasium. There will be maps available with teacher
names and locations at the door. We will send reminders and maps out via email
the week of conferences for your reference. We encourage our parents to write down
a few questions related to their student(s) prior to meeting with your student’s
teachers to assist in the discussion. We are also asking for parent flexibility as each
teacher will have an assigned dinner break during the conferences. Please note
there will be NO conferences on November 12, 2015.
If you have additional questions about parent conferences, please contact Mr.
Matthew Niper, Assistant Principal via email; [email protected] or
your student’s counselor. (See link below for flyer)

Science fundraiser: This year students will have the opportunity to take part in a
science fundraiser. Our goal is to raise money for our science club and our science
department. The fundraiser is with an environmentally friendly company called
Nature’s Vision. They offer a wide variety of environmentally themed products that
are high quality and affordable. In addition, Nature’s Vision will donate a portion of
their proceeds to environmental organizations that are dedicated to protecting the
rainforest, marine conservation, preserving nature and ensuring a sustainable
future for our planet. The fundraiser will start November 3rd and will end
November 17th. (See link for flyer)
