Veteran’s Day: A huge thank you everyone for a wonderful Veteran’s Day
celebration. We had over 30 active duty and retired military personnel for
breakfast, a patriotic flag raising, and discussion with our students. A big thank you
to the Damascus Post 171 American Legion for being a part of our flag raising again
this year. A special thank you to our community Veteran’s for spending their day
with us to give Rocky Hillers a look into the sacrifices and lives of our hero’s and
their families. Also a special thank you to Mrs. Marshall and “Terry”, her K-9
wounded warrior service dog in training, for showing our children another way we
can help our brave wounded veterans. Our students did an incredible job showing
their thanks and respect to all our visitors. We are so proud and honored that we
can say “Thank you” to our special veterans on this day each year.
SAFETY UPDATES:
Everyone can contribute to a safe and healthy school environment. Often, tips from
parents and students can prevent youth violence, drug and alcohol abuse, gang
involvement and other dangers to the safety of students. MCPS has a confidential
Safe Schools Hotline to report threats, or safety and security violations. You can call
301-517-5995, 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Students who see something
and/or hear something suspicious that they would like to report can Text-a-Tip to
274637 (CRIMES).
Parents are encouraged to learn more about MCPS safety procedures by visiting the
Safety and Security website
<http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/security/>. Videos on the site
explain school security procedures and protocols, including the difference between a
lockdown, shelter in place and evacuation. There’s also information about cyber
security, emergency preparedness and much more.
Leo Club -Luggage/Suitcase Drive: The Leo Club is proud to announce our first
annual Luggage/Suitcase Drive to benefit Montgomery County Veteran’s. This
collaborative effort includes the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, the
RHMS PTA, Ms. Tippett, Mr. Perrone and the members of the RHMS Leo Club.
We will be collecting gently used suitcases or duffle bags of all sizes that are in
dignified condition (good repair, no tears, stains, broken zippers, pockets emptied of
trash etc.). Please do not send any children’s luggage. The collection dates are
November 23-December 4th. All donations can be dropped off in the PE offices.
8th Grade Community Service Day-Wednesday, November 25th
Eighth graders will participate in a Community Service Day on Wednesday,
November 25th. In conjunction with Rocky Hill PTA, 8th grade teacher will provide
students with varied opportunities to perform acts of community service. Some of
the activities they will be involved in are as follows: watching and discussing a “Pay
it Forward” video, writing letters to and making stress balls for wounded soldiers,
creating positive posters for Rocky Hill, making word searches and activity books
for hospitalized children, clipping coupons for American soldiers and their families
around the world and watching The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein and
implementing a Giving Tree for Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. It will also be
Heavenly Hats Day for 8th graders. Any 8th grader who brings in a donation of any
amount (the more the better) for Heavenly Hats Foundation will be permitted to
wear their hats. But we need your help…Please save your Sunday coupon
inserts and put them in the collection box in the school office.

their proceeds to environmental organizations that are dedicated to protecting the
