SAFETY UPDATES: Everyone can contribute to a safe and healthy school environment. Often,
tips from parents and students can prevent youth violence, drug and alcohol abuse, gang
involvement and other dangers to the safety of students. MCPS has a confidential Safe Schools
Hotline to report threats, or safety and security violations. You can call 301-517-5995, 24 hours a
day/seven days a week. Students who see something and/or hear something suspicious that they
would like to report can Text-a-Tip to 274637 (CRIMES).
Parents are encouraged to learn more about MCPS safety procedures by visiting the Safety and
Security website http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/security/
Videos on the site explain school security procedures and protocols, including the difference
between a lockdown, shelter in place and evacuation. There’s also information about cyber
security, emergency preparedness and much more.
