Review Activity Using Your Text Book You don’t have to wait for your teacher to assign you work – you can develop your own review strategies. 1. Open the book to a section that you covered in class. If you are not sure, read the headings and see if it sounds familiar. It should match some of the points on your notes, worksheets or study guide. 2. Hold something over the text so that you just see the heading – usually the heading is blue. You can use your hand but an index card is easier. Read the headi ng –for example, on page 37 of the Weather book there is a heading “non-visible radiation”. Ask yourself what you know about that topic. You can think it in your head or write down some notes. 3. After you have thought out or written out an answer, read the paragraph to see what you got right and what you missed. 4. Keep a list of any topics that you are struggling with and need to spend more time on. 5. Once you have reviewed the key topics in ONE section (don’t try to do too much at a time!), do one or more of the following: a. Make a chart or outline of the sections you just reviewed. Writing things down helps you remember then b. Draw diagrams of concepts – such as trade routes, immigration routes, how heat is transferred. c. Answer section assessment questions at the end of the section.
