April 11, 2016 th To: Parents/Guardians of 8 Grade Students From: Sarah Manchester, Lara Finklea, & Maude Windsor, Trip Coordinators The 8th grade team will be taking a trip to Six Flags Amusement Park in Largo, MD. The date of the trip is Friday, May 20, 2016. We will depart TPMS at 9:30 am and return to TPMS at 6:15 pm. OBJECTIVE: Students will celebrate the successful completion of middle school! COST: $55 This fee includes transportation, admission, and an 8th grade class t-shirt. If you have a 2016 season pass to Six Flags, the cost is $25 for transportation and t-shirt. LUNCH: Students need to bring money ($20) to purchase lunch & snacks in the park. CHAPERONES: The trip will be chaperoned by teachers from the 8th grade team. REQUIREMENTS: ▪ All financial obligations, including overdue books, must be satisfied in order to sign up for this trip. No permission slips will be accepted from students with obligations. ▪ Takoma Park Middle School students are representatives of our school and community. A student’s behavior in school will determine whether (s)he can represent our school on a field trip. Therefore, any student with more than two referrals, significant behavioral infraction, or any suspensions in the fourth marking period will not be permitted to participate in this trip. PAYMENT: Payment for the trip, $55, is due when you submit your permission slip. Payments can also be made with a credit card online. (see back for information) If you have magazine credits, you can apply them to the cost of the trip. There will be a $10 fee for checks returned due to insufficient funds. Online payment is the preferred method. This trip is open to all 8th graders, regardless of financial status. If you would like to make a contribution to help support this goal, your donation is welcome, which can be made via check, cash, or online. PAYMENT LOCATION AND TIMES: Trip registration will take place in the 8th grade hallway between 7:35 and 7:50 a.m. daily. Collection will begin Tuesday, April 12 and end Monday, April 25. Please turn in your form and payment as soon as possible. Please note that there are no refunds for the trip. If your child does not normally take this medication at school, you must fill out an additional form, have it signed by the doctor, and return it along with the medication to school prior to the trip. Please indicate on the permission slip if you need form 525-13, Authorization to Administer Prescribed Medication, and a copy will be sent home with your child. Please allow sufficient time to take this form to the doctor, get it signed, and return it to the school. Students should wear their 8th grade class t-shirt for the trip. Students should be prepared for a long day outside – comfortable shoes & sunscreen are musts! Remind your child to drink plenty of water while in the park. If an emergency situation arises that would affect the trip, a Connect Ed call will be placed to all parents informing them of updated plans. Student Behavioral Expectations Exhibit Takoma’s core values – courtesy, safety, integrity. Follow all directions given by TPMS staff members. Follow all directions given by park staff and obey park rules (no cutting in line, profanity, ...) Arrive on time to check-ins. Always stay with at least one other student – never be alone in the park. Failure to obey school and park rules may result in removal from the trip & a call to parents to pick up their child. Online Trip Payments Payments for this trip can be made online using a debit or credit card (Visa/Mastercard). To access this option, use the Online Payments link from the Quicklinks on the school’s website. You will need your child’s student ID number to set up an account. Donations to the trip’s scholarship fund can also be made at this site. Please note that there is a 3.75% fee for payments made online; this fee is not paid to MCPS, but is collected by the site itself. Payments made online will generate an email sent to Ms. Manchester, one of the trip sponsors. Please make your online payments prior to or on the day that your child returns the permission slip, so that payments and forms can be matched up daily.
