By : William Ennis The Montgomery County Board of Education voted on February 10, 2015 to change school starting and ending times in Montgomery County Public Schools. The new schedule in 20152016 school year is 7:55-2:40. Basically you are getting 20 more minutes to sleep which I approve 100%. The thing I do not approve 100% is now we get out 20 minutes later. The funny thing is all the other middle schools in the county have the 7:55-2:40 bell schedule this year, LOL. The reason we have an earlier schedule is because we share busses with the high school and the elementary school. Well whatever - sharing is caring. 2015 – 2016 School Year 7:55am – 2:40pm Inside this issue: Time Change for 2015 1 -2016 School Year Inside Story : Health Tips 2 Inside Story— Valentine’s Day Facts and Comics 4,5 Inside StoryJokes and Word Scramble 6,7 Inside Story— Video Games 8, 9 Inside Story— - JPMS Phantom Players 12, 13 Inside Story— Timmy the Timberwolf 14, 15 Inside Story– Sports 16, 17 THE PAWPRINT Health Tips for Teens By Ashley W indsor Teenagers need to consume a healthy diet that is high in fruits and vegetables, and rich in nutrients like calcium and iron. Teenagers can do a lot to improve their diet, eat healthy meals and snacks, and maintain a healthy weight. Many teenagers eat junk food every day. This might be sugarsweetened drinks like fizzy drinks and highkilojoule snacks like potato chips. However, your body can’t run properly on poor fuel. While a mid-life heart attack might seem too far away to be real, it may surprise you to know that you could have health problems already. A poor diet can cause weight gain, high blood pressure, constipation, fatigue and concentration problems – even when you’re young. You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television. Those answers we carry inside.” ~Optimus Prime Supplied by Luke Lightcap Page 4 By Daniel Chen The most popular theory about Valentine's Day origin is that Emperor Claudius II didn't want Roman men to marry during wartime. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret weddings. For this,Valentine was jailed and executed. While in jail he wrote a note to the jailor's daughter signing it "from your Valentine". In Victorian times it was considered bad luck to sign a Valentine’s Day card. Based on retail statistics, about 3% of pet owners will give Valentine’s Day gifts to their pets. About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. This makes it the second largest seasonal card sending time of the year Girls of medieval times ate bizarre foods on St.Valentine's Day to make them dream of their future spouse. Many believe the X symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn't write their names signed in front of a witness with an X. The X was then kissed to show their sincerity. In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression "to wear your heart on your sleeve." In 1537, England's King Henry VII officially declared Feb. 14 St.Valentine's Day. Physicians of the 1800s commonly advised their patients to eat chocolate to calm their pining for lost love. 73% of people who buy flowers for Valentine's Day are men, while only 27% are women. Minecraft is a free-roam building and mining game, kind of like Logos. The graphics may not look the best but it is still cool and if you don’t like them, get a resource pack which will change the look of the graphics. The thing I love most about Minecraft is you can be creative as you want. Speaking of creative, there are multiple gamemodes for it. The basic gamemode is survival where you gather resources to survive. This is called survival mode. There is even multiplayer so you can play with your friends. If you get bored of the main game you can get mods for it. The price of this wonderful game is $26.95, which is low for a game like this. So I recommend you get Minecraft because it has over Page 8 17,000,000 buys and has an 8.5/10 rating so go out this game and see you on the servers.
