Spotlight on Ms Hay
By Sandra Gassou
This is Ms. Hay’s first year at Ridgeview. She teaches reading. She was born in Washington, D.C.
but went to Montgomery County Public Schools in Bethesda, MD. She graduated from Walt Whitman H.S. and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of MD College Park.
Before coming to Ridgeview she taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades for 13 years at Strathmore Elementary School in Silver Spring. Ms. Hay decided to move to middle school because she wanted to expand her experiences and teach a new grade level. She enjoys older kids and the engaging conversations and discussions they have. Ms. Hay says that she heard amazing things about Dr. McKnight
and her vision for Ridgeview. Equity for all students is important to Ms. Hay and she knew that Dr.
McKnight made this a big part of the school vision and plan for success.
She choose teaching because she loves learning and wanted
to instill that passion and power of learning in others. She
desired to make a difference in the world by what and the
way she educates her students. She teaches both middle
schoolers and adult learners for this reason.
Ms. Hay is also married and a mother of 3 boys ages 15, 13,
and 10.
Welcome Ms. Hay! We’re glad you are here!

6th Grade Ourdoor Ed
By Jay Motiwala and Paige Lane
The 6th grade recently had their Outdoor Ed experience. Session 1 went December 14
through December 16. Session 2 went December 16 to December 18. Planned by Mr. Dimarco and Mr. Doggett, Outdoor Ed was a great experience for the 2015-2016 6th Grade
Bobcats! We’re sure that most of the students will have great stories to tell in their 7th to 8th
grade years about their adventures at the Smith Center. For those of you that may not know,
Outdoor Ed is when the 6th Grade students get to go to the Smith Center to do fun activities
in forest areas and get to understand the wilderness more. This was a three day event so we
did sleep in cabins with our friends. All of the students in Outdoor Ed participated in fun and
team building activities like Predator and Prey, (the fan favorite) The Stream Study, The Confidence Course, and The Settlement Hunt. We also had fun night events like a campfire,
Jeopardy, and looking at cool forest animals. We also had time to perform tasks that would
give us SSL hours. While Outdoor Ed was an entertaining experience, we also learned how to
become better citizens. This was a great opportunity for the 6th grade students.

Movie Review
By Nebil Ozer
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
CAUTION!!!! SPOILERS
Overall, this movie was probably one of the most anticipated movies of
the year. Many people have been spoiling the movie all over the internet,
as most of you well know. This movie honestly had some ups and downs
but, the public was generally appeased. Honestly, the main thing that disappointed me was how many people tried to spoil it for other people. The
people that had watched it were screaming, “Han Solo DIESSSS!” to everyone, and the ones that hadn’t had to live in fear until they watched it. I
liked how they added Kylo-Ren (Han Solo’s son) into the story. The movie
did a pretty good job bringing in new characters from all the old movies.
We are all awaiting the promise of more movies...

of February. There are daily trivia questions with prizes. On February 17, we are having our Family
African American Heritage Celebration Heritage Night beginning with dinner at 6:00 p.m. Families are

fear….. or because 7, 8 (ate) 9
Q: What do you get when you cross a dog with a telephone?
A: A golden receiver.
Q: What do donkeys send out near Christmas?
A: Mule-tide greetings.
Q: Did you hear about the guy they found dead with his head in his cornflakes?
A: The police thought it was a cereal killer.
Q: What Is greater than god, more evil than the devil,
rich people want me, poor people have me,
If you eat me you die.
A: NOTHING
Q: Why did the ants dance on the jam jar?
A: The lid said, "Twist to open”
Q: What does a nosey pepper do?
A: Gets jalapeno business!
Q: Did you hear about the hungry clock?

Q: There is a 5 gallon and a 3 gallon box. You also have a hose with unlimited water. How are you
gonna make the 5 gallon have 4 gallons using your items? (You do not know the exact measurements
of a gallon)
A:You fill the five gallon up and pour it into the 3 gallon. The dump the 3 gallon out and pour what was
left in the 5 gallon into the 3 gallon so that you have 2 gallons in the 3 gallon. Then fill the 5 gallon up
and pour it into the 3 gallon to fill it up. Now you have 4 gallons in the 5 gallons.

SGA News
By Jay Motiwala
The SGA is bent on planning fun events for the school, doing right to our community, and making sure
the student body has a voice. One of the events the SGA hosted was the Neon Dance! There was
blacklights, pizza, a chocolate fountain, and more! There was also basketball in the Gym if you weren’t
in the mood for dancing. It was a lot of fun! Now, the SGA is planning something to get your voice
heard. The SGA wants to hear YOUR opinion on the new changes this school year. The changes are,
the time change for when school begins and ends, and what you think about the new Common Core
curriculum. We will be giving the responses to Montgomery County officials so they can read our comments. This has been your SGA update for the months of December and January.
