Game Notes: Saturday’s game marks the sixth meeting between the Alfred University Saxons and Frostburg State Bobcats, with holding a 3-2 advantage in the series. The last time these two teams played, last
year in Frostburg, AU claimed a 32-7 victory. The last time they met in Alfred, in 2012, the Saxons won 4014. Frostburg’s last win in the series came in 2011 at home, when the Bobcats won a 54-53 2OT decision.
About the Saxons: AU, led by first-year head
coach Bob Rankl, is 3-3 overall and 1-3 in Empire
8 play after last weekend’s 45-42 loss at home to
Brockport.
The Saxons come in scoring 29.2 points per contest, averaging 406 yards of offense (243 passing,
163 rushing). Quarterback Tyler Johnson leads the
team in rushing with 528 yards and three touchdowns and has completed 95 of 166 passes for 1,330
yards with 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Freshman tailback Sammy Davis Jr. ran for a
career-high 94 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown
against Brockport. On the year, her has 217 rushing
yards (5.6 yards per carry) with two
TDs. Casey Bright has three rushing
touchdowns.
Wideouts Brendan Buisch (20 catches, seven TDs) and Rodney Etienne
(24 catches, one TD) have 348 and
294 yards receiving, respectively, and
Young
Etienne has one rushing touchdown.
Tight end Isiah Young, coming off a
seven-catch, 137-yard game against Brockport, has
28 receptions for 340 yards and a touchdown, and
wideout Bobby Broddus has 15 catches for 289
yards and two TDs.
AU is giving up 27.5 points per game, allowing an
average of 316 yards of offense (216 passing, 100
rushing). Outside linebacker Justin Liberta has 44
tackles (3 1/2 for loss) an interception and a forced
fumble, and middle linebacker Corry Wallace has
41 tackles (seven for loss, one sack)
with two recoveries.
Free safety Mike Berardi has 34
tackles and three pass breakups; cornerback Mike Perkins has seven pass
breakups and two INTs; and end Andy
Miller
Miller has 5 1/2 tackles for loss and
two sacks.
Davis averages 20.1 yards on kick returns and
Alex Peebles 6.3 yards on punt returns. Placekicker
Trevor Monk has made two of three field goals and
20 of 23 PATs. Ryan McDonnell is averaging 29.9
yards on punts.

About the Bobcats: Frostburg, under first-year head
coach DeLane Fitzgerald, is 3-4 overall and 1-4 in
the Empire 8 following last weekend’s 38-37 double-overtime home upset of then 25th ranked Ithaca.
Frostburg is scoring 16.4 points per game while
averaging 251 yards of offense (137 passing, 114
rishing). Quarterback Ken Emmons has completed
70 of 142 passes for 922 yards with
four touchdowns and six interceptions.
He is also the Bobcats’ second-leading
rusher, with 169 yards and four TDs.
Tailback Ben Sasu leads the team in
rushing with 255 yards on 68 carries,
with a team-leading five TDs.

Emmons’ top targets are wideouts
Haydan Roberts and Myles Burgess. Roberts has
23 catches for 288 yards and a score; Burgess has 14
for 185 yards and a touchdown.
Frostburg is allowing 30.1 points per game and the
Bobcat defense gives up 366 yards of offense per
game (215 passing, 151 rushing). Linebacker Rowan Pinkett leads the team in tackles with 61 (three
for loss, one sack), with three fumble recoveries and
two forced fumbles.
Defensive back Salaman Riddell has 44 tackles
and three forced fumbles; linebacker Matt Heacock
has 34 tackles; and defensive back Keith Smith has
three pass breakups.

FANS PLEASE NOTE...The Dansville (NY) High School
Marching Band, with more than 100 members, will be
performing at halftime of Saturday’s game. The Marching
Mustangs will perform as guests of the AU Pep Band.
Frostburg’s special teams played a
significant role in the upset over Ithaca,
as Smith blocked a PAT in the second
overtime, which provided the winning
margin. Frostburg has six blocked
kicks on the year, including one in each
Smith
of the last five games. Roberts averages
5.8 yards on punt returns and Josh Piper 19.7 yards on kick returns. Isaac Robinson has
made four of six FG tries and 13 of 15 PATs, while
Zach Tuckmantel averages 35 yards per punt.
