YOUTH AND FAMILY WELLNESS ACTIVITIES YMCA OF THE CAPITAL AREA YOUTH CLASSES KID FIT Have you been looking for something for your kids to do while you are working out? Here’s a great program that will keep your kids active and having fun. Kid Fit is a structured program for kids ages 7 to 11. It is designed to introduce kids to a variety of exercises while keeping it safe. Class will be held in the aerobic studio, gym, outside, or the pool based on the availability of space and weather. SPORTS BASICS Children between the ages of 6-12 years old learn how to play sports such as football, soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball and more starting with the basics and gradually increasing skills. YOUTH SPORTS CONDITIONING Run Faster, Jump Higher, Build Strength. Led by personal trainer, this class is designed for youth 10-18 and designed to improve/ develop athletic performance. RECREATION & SPORTS PROGRAM A recreation and sports program designed to provide youth with opportunities to interact and play with other children in a supervised structured environment. Activities and games are led by Live to Serve volunteers and YMCA staff. Kick ball, relay races, and basketball are examples of some of the activities that are facilitated. This program is part of a community initiative and open to both YMCA members and community members. Ages 4-12 YOUTH ZUMBA Zumba! Is a fusion of Latin and International music/dance themes that create a dynamic and exciting, yet easy to follow class? It combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations making for a “feel free” workout that is great for both the body and the mind! Children ages 8 & up may accompany an adult family member. FAMILY CLASSES FAMILY GROOVE Families that Groove together stay together. 45 minutes of fun for the whole family and learn a move or two. Class consist of a warm up, dance instruction, and a cool down. Children ages 8 & up may accompany an adult family member. FAMILY ZUMBA Zumba! Children ages 8 & up may accompany an adult family member. FAMILY INDOOR CYCLING & JOG Ride your way through rolling hills, steep climbs, false flats, and sprints. Then enjoy the great outdoors with a refreshing jog. Each segment is 30 minutes. Children ages 10 & up may accompany an adult family member. YOUTH FITNESS YOUTH 12-14 Youth ages 12—14 may use the wellness areas once they receive a Youth Fitness Button. This allows them to use the strength equipment, cardiovascular machines and attend adult classes. Please make an appointment at the front desk to complete the youth fitness training. Supervision of a parent/guardian is required while the youth is exercising. YOUTH 15 AND UP Youth ages 15 years of age may use the equipment in the fitness center and attend adult classes without a parent/guardian. Why the age policy is implemented: The Y believes that the path of health and wellness starts at a young age. Youth should have access to programs that stress the importance of healthy living and equipment to incorporate exercise into their daily lives. Learning health habits at a young age can help prevent childhood obesity, heart disease, diabetes and other illnesses. We want families to be able to have more options to be together, have fun together and stay healthy together at the Y. However, it is important the youth have access to these programs and equipment in a controlled, supervised environment that is fair to both youth and adult members.
