April News at Meadow View Library
A big “thanks” to the PTO for a wonderful book fair and more importantly for bringing so many books to our
students, classrooms and library, we are so grateful! April is National Poetry month and we will be doing
different poetry activities all month long here in the library.
I am making a special plea to parents and students in fourth grade to all read the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It is a very special book that will captivate you and your student, and it
is one of the few books that I feel is important for everyone ages 10 and up to read. It also
happens to be the last book club choice for fourth grade. I will be hosting the last fourth
grade book club here at Meadow View Library on Wednesday May 20th. Your students are
always welcome to come to any book club and I really go “all out” for the last one. IF you
and your child do read the book, you should know that there was a short sequel released
last summer, but it is only available as an e-book. It is called Julian’s Chapter. I have 10
ebook copies available through our library, but your student needs their login and passwords to access it. It is also available for purchase through Amazon’s Kindle program. This book is truly a MUST-READ!!!
Third graders will have their last book club of the year on Wednesday April 15th and we
will be discussing and reading poetry. Third graders should know that for book club next
year they will be asked to read individual titles and I will hand out a list at the end of the year for all students.
Books and Company is putting together a Kid and Teen advisory board to review “not yet published” books
from publishers. If any of your children ages 9-18 would like to join or find out more information there is a
meeting at Books and Company on Sunday April 26th at 4pm. At the meeting they will
discuss what is expected as a member, taste some cookies and choose an ARC to take
home for keeps! (ARC is an Advanced Reader Copy book) Please contact Lisa Nehs
at [email protected] for questions.
Thank you for making reading a priority!

Community Guest Readers
A special thank you to our community guest readers who visited our classrooms during Literacy Week!
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
On Friday, March 6th, all of the first graders
participated in Dr. Seuss Day! They celebrated
all of Dr. Seuss’s great books by dressing up
as a character, reading in the hall, and eating
a Dr. Seuss snack that included red, orange,
and green fish!

The End
Spring break is finally here. It is always a much appreciated break and a time to recharge. Just as
we all look forward to the coming of spring and all of its new growth, we also look forward to
watching the continued growth of the students at Meadow View. Our school goal continues to focus on student growth and achievement in literacy. Thank you for all you do to contribute to that
growth and for working with us as your partners!
As most of you know, I love basketball and the Wisconsin Badgers. As I type, they have 1 game
left in the season...the National Championship game. There is so much that can be learned from
this year’s team. One of the many take-a-ways for me is this year is how Wisconsin handled the
heartbreaking loss to Kentucky in last year’s Final Four. It would have been easy for the
players to pout, blame, or give up. But they didn’t, and look how things played out. Our
students so often want to get everything “right” the first time, and that is a great quality to
have. But it is also important to teach them how to deal with failure and disappointment.
Elementary school is often the best time to learn these lessons as the consequences are
not nearly as severe as they are as you get older. Whether it is learning to ride a bicycle,
grades on a report card, homework, or athletics, the ability to persevere and working to
achieve a goal without being discouraged is tough lesson to learn. Please continue to
carry that message on at home when the situation presents itself.
