Knox Raiders State Championship Women Saturday we played our last home game of the regular season against Warrandyte Venom. We opened the game full of run and jumped out early to a double digit lead and at the end of the first held a 21 to 10 lead. The second quarter was similar to the first as we outscored the Venom 22 to 12 to take a 43 – 22 lead into half time. The third quarter we left our intensity in the change room and turning the ball over 7 times, allowing Warrandyte to get 8 offensive rebounds and being outscored 12 to 13 for the quarter taking a 55 to 35 lead into the final term. A quite chat during the break saw the girls come out focused in the fourth quarter as we outscored the Venom 29 to 10. We shared the ball collecting 7 assists for the quarter to 1 turnover, limited Warrandyte to 2 offensive boards and lifted our intensity at both ends of the court to run out 84 to 45 winners. Korinne Campbell had 23 pts, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists, Lucy Dawson 17pts, 12 rebs, Bec Ott 12pts,8 assists, 4 rebs and 3 steals and Elli Lovelace 8pts, 13rebs. Sunday we took on the Southern Peninsula Sharks down at the Shark Tank. For the first 3 quarters of this game it was as if there was glad wrap on which ever ring we were shooting at. The first quarter saw us shoot the ball at 21% from the field and were down 27 to 13 at the first break. It wasn’t any better at the start of the second as we were looking down the barrel at a 23-point lead to the Sharks. A time out and a quite chat saw the girls lift their intensity and start to get back in the game outscoring the Sharks 26 to 15 and going into half time down by 3, 42 to 39. The third quarter saw us shoot the ball at 12.5% from the floor and we were outscored 16 to 10. Our effort on defense was very good, we just couldn’t finish our good work at the offensive end and the Sharks took a 58 to 49 lead into the last break. The last quarter our intensity lift at both ends of the floor and we started knocking down the shots that we had missed up til this point in the game. Lucy Dawson was all over the offensive boards and sparked us on offense. We outscored the Sharks 26 to 8, collecting 11 offensive rebounds for the quarter and shooting the ball at 48%. To come away with a 75 – 66 win. Our want to win and commitment to each other shone through in this quarter as everyone played selfless team basketball and put their bodies on the line for the team. It was not our prettiest game of the season, but it certainly was one were the team was tested on a number of levels and as good teams do they found a way to win. Korinne Campbell scored 18 points, 23 rebs, 2 blocks and 3 assists, Bec Ott 15pts, 8 rebs, Lucy Dawson 15 pts and 7 rebs and Tara Blair 10 pts. Thank you to everyone who has come out and supported us during those cold days and nights throughout the season, I know the girls and coaching staff really appreciate it. Head Coach Robbie Baldwin
